@@skye7866 I ended up with a govee. I was definitely leaning towards the Neo, but I'm upgrading all my theatre stuff, and I didn't want to introduce another factor, but it's still on my radar. Doesn't defeat the purpose atol, keeps cost down plus considering most people have and will continue to have non hdmi 2.1 TVs big deal it's a small market they miss out on until their next revision
Wrong. It's more the input end of the sync box. Hdmi 2.0 is only capable of 4k at 60hz. So for example: if you want to use one the new gaming consoles that do 4k 120hz. You can still use the sync box. However, it will limit your gaming to 4k 60z. Which make the sync box a no go for gamers. However, if you just want to watch streaming apps and films. I have mine on the bottom, and I have a speaker bar in front of the camera, so you don’t even see the camera. And as someone who has a Roku TV, I almost exclusively use the apps on the TV, so the other options here wouldn’t work unless I got an external device like a chromecast or firestick to feed the signal through.
Depending on the rooms lighting set up, placing it at the bottom of the TV can cause problems for some people as the camera can confuse any lamps or lights close by as signal from the TV. Therefor for a lot of people this is not possible. This is why I did not mention it.
@@MichaelElsegood That's absolutely not a good reason to not mention it. It's easier to hide when mounted below the TV, and could be affected by ambient room lighting the same either way.

Hey Michael, what if you are watching content from the TV's TH-cam and Netflix apps? These are sources "from within the TV" and will the backlights sync?
Hey Derek, on the Neo and Philips no, they need an external source via HDMI. On the Govee yes, because it just uses the camera to analyze what colors are being produced by the screen.
How do you setup Govee with AV receiver? i mean most of my entertaiment system like ps5, tv cable etc etc are through my AV receiver... so where do i put Govee?

I really want the Philips hue set up.. but not compatible with the ps5 or Xbox series x. Thinking about getting the one from govee, but don’t like the camera lol. Don’t know what to do
No. If you're going to get into the Hue ecosystem, the Bridge is necessary for almost everything, and there's a lot of Hue Bundles, often with 2 bulbs or 3 bulbs. While you can use Bluetooth for the newer lights, the Hue sync requires Zigbee, which means it has to connect to an existing Bridge. That said, Hue covers a lot of smart home devices that were designed back in ~2011 to use Zigbee, such as bulbs, LED strips, motion sensors, wall switches, downlights, pendant and desk lights, outdoor spot and lamps, etc. 10-12 years later, they haven't really improved while there's a lot of competition. Philips were the first company to make Ambilight a "thing" in their TVs, and Hue was designed to complement this, it wasn't until much later that they became compatible. There are other ambient light solutions, but the issue is that you need to control or observe the video image/stream in some way to match a lighting zone, which is why the switch/intercept box is necessary, or you just use a camera. In some Android TV's, you can use Hue Apps and 3rd party software to send the signal via Ethernet/Wifi to the Hue Bridge & smart bulbs, which gives you amblight on the TV without a sync box, but it's not very reliable.
7:30 is totally wrong. Most Netflix shows are in Dolbyvision now. To say it's rare is absurd. It's basically an enforced standard the past couple of years.
How hard would it be to utilize optical cable support for the sync box? Meaning the hdmi port is no longer necessary as the optical carries signals far faster would have support for larger fps capabilities, and it wouldnt matter what source youre currently using because the optical operates on all inputs?
@@pvtvenom fiber optics are not just for audio... they can carry a wide range of signals and information. It depends on the IC to determine the information being sent and recieved, a video/audio (like HDMI) port could, in theory, be converted to optical. I was merely suggesting that doing so could overcome the sync issues described in the video.
Do you have a personal preference? I imagine the Phillips if you have them and can afford them but I love my govee. Cannot imagine having another, despite accuracy and latency. I think it's pretty accurate but I was very meticulous when setting up my camera
I have a quick question, dont know if it can be answered. Im stuck between Govee and Neo. I play a lot of movies. A lot of them from my Nvidia Shield which has an ext HDD connected to it. Some movies show with the top black bar and bottom black bar, meaning movie doesn't always cover the full screen. Will Govee be able to differentiate that, or will it see black and not light up. Hope i made sense with my question.
There shouldn't be an issue with this setup. just know that anything coming out of the receiver higher than the box's refresh rate will be downscaled and no hdr. The Neo version 2 will support Dolby vision, hdr10 and hdr10+ and can handle 4k 60hz. I'd get that one if you havent already. If you already have the original Neo, you can get the new HDMI box for 99 dollars
For some reason his specs for the lytmi are completely different from what the website he linked says... 🤔 Is he talking about an old lytmi model? And also, the unspoken TH-cam rule... Why do you invoke the Google command. All my lights turned on 😑

As well, no HDR and more importantly, no Atmos passthrough are dealbreakers for me with the Neo. The latency and camera are deal breakers for me with the Govee, so I guess I'm going to go with the Hue. In the end, I do think you usually get what you pay for in terms of quality. I have other smart bulbs and they are definitely not as polished as Hue. I very much suspect, these other two alternatives aren't either. Again, thanks so much for this video!!
Phillips is definitely the most popular and what people think is the “best” but it’s just stupid expensive, you have to buy 2 extra things just for it to work. Imo the govee is the best

I have the most up to date version of the Neo(2.0) and Govee (T2) - both have there flaws but I’m returning the Govee. The color match and fluid motion of the Neo is way better. My only issue is with how complicated my setup is with the Neo. With the hdmi splitter, I find myself constantly shuffling remotes because it doesn’t always work with the universal remote… I don’t really mind not being able to use the smart apps since I have an Apple TV with all the same apps anyways….
I just bought Govee because my Phillips Hue quit working. After a day with Govee, it’s going back. The camera is terrible at matching the colors on screen
You likely didn't set it up correctly, or you bought the camera for the wrong size TV. I have a 77" TV and accidentally bought the 55"-65" kit, so the camera couldn't capture all sides of my TV. I then bought the kit that's for 75"-85" TVs and, after messing with it for a bit, got the colors to be extremely accurate. One thing I noticed was that if I mounted the camera directly to my TV, the camera still seemed to have issues capturing all sides and corners of the TV, which affected how accurate the colors were. So I mounted the camera roughly 6 inches further back and was able to capture all sides and angles of my TV. Once you ensure all sides and angles are properly captured, you just make sure that your TV is off and lights are on, when calibrating the camera, so that the camera can see the TV clearly. And once you finish that, it works like a charm. One other thing to note, once you finish the set up and calibration, turning down the Saturation all the way on the Govee app made the colors much more accurate for me as well. I absolutely love my Govee.
Would you pay over $600 for the Phillips Hue for those few extra features?
Not without 120fps support. Probably still not then.

7:30 is totally wrong. Most Netflix shows are in Dolbyvision now. To say it's rare is absurd. It's basically an enforced standard the past couple of years.
Does the Neo work with a receiver?
if its via an HDMI input yes, if not, no.
How hard would it be to utilize optical cable support for the sync box? Meaning the hdmi port is no longer necessary as the optical carries signals far faster would have support for larger fps capabilities, and it wouldnt matter what source youre currently using because the optical operates on all inputs?
Optical cable, as in optical audio cable?
Why would you use an audio port for visual effects
@@pvtvenom fiber optics are not just for audio... they can carry a wide range of signals and information. It depends on the IC to determine the information being sent and recieved, a video/audio (like HDMI) port could, in theory, be converted to optical. I was merely suggesting that doing so could overcome the sync issues described in the video.
Are there other sync boxes that allow you to connect multiple devices simultaneously?
Do you have a personal preference? I imagine the Phillips if you have them and can afford them but I love my govee. Cannot imagine having another, despite accuracy and latency. I think it's pretty accurate but I was very meticulous when setting up my camera
Get Philips, very much worth it
HOW ABOUT IF YOU CONNECT A MULTI HDMI TO THE NEO SYNC BOX..IN ORDR TO GET MORE DEVICES CONNECTED INSTEAD OF JUST ONE., WILL IT WORK??
Yes I think that could work.
@@MichaelElsegood THANK YOU MAN YOU ARE AWESOME, THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ANSWER
Yes it does i can confirm
I have a quick question, dont know if it can be answered. Im stuck between Govee and Neo. I play a lot of movies. A lot of them from my Nvidia Shield which has an ext HDD connected to it. Some movies show with the top black bar and bottom black bar, meaning movie doesn't always cover the full screen. Will Govee be able to differentiate that, or will it see black and not light up. Hope i made sense with my question.
Take a look at this thread about your concern
www.reddit.com/r/Govee/comments/l5eso7/just_set_up_my_immersion_lights_and_i_think_im/
I'm going to try to have the neo go through my receiver which everything else connects to.
how did this go? can you let me know
Yeah I'm going to do the same thing if it works.
If you already have the original Neo, you can get the new HDMI box for 99 dollars
not sure why it changed Neo to Vue, but I updated the answer so people don't get confused
@@adamruss656 so if I have Xbox, cable box and firestick, do I need a splitter for each one.
7:30 uhhhh.... like 90% of Netflix's original content is in DolbyVision. and Amazon is now doing the same thing
"Hey Google! Turn off the lights!"
My Google home: oKaY! *Turns off lights*
Lol Whoops
For some reason his specs for the lytmi are completely different from what the website he linked says... 🤔 Is he talking about an old lytmi model? And also, the unspoken TH-cam rule... Why do you invoke the Google command. All my lights turned on 😑
Can some1 explain how many lights you can connect for each of these i know phillips hue is more than 2 but not to sure on the others
Imo, you left out the most important consideration, ie. how they actually look vs one another. accuracy of color/latency etc.
Yes, as stated in the title of this video, this is an overview rather than an in depth test comparison. The testing is for another future video. Thanks for watching ✌️
I just bought a Philips tv with built in ambilight. It's a shame they have the copyright.
Are these HDMI ports 2.1?
OMG you just helped me so much...
If you TV is on a stand then mount the camera on the stand at the bottom and you will not see it
I have hue lights installed on the back of my tv already. Is my only option to purchase the hue hdmi syncs box or can I use alternative synce boxes?
Can still use others i have hue lights and neo i sync hue light with hue sync on pc and run neo works a dream i also have a diy ambilight setup which I can use hue as well tv lights which all sync to the lighting on my pc called glimmr tv
They really should just build this into the tv and avoid the need for elaborate accessories
If you already have the Hue ecosystem the Sync box is worth it. Otherwise I'd go cheaper
Und Govve oder Neo?🤔🤔🤔
Govee is good ?
Brilliant review! Exactly what I was looking for - easy to follow with clear comparisons. Thank you for doing it.
Thanks so much for this comparison, I was trying to figure out the pros and cons of each system myself and was getting lost. This was super helpful1
I already have several Hue bulbs and a bridge..
Govee sync kinda sucks tho tbh
getting one for my lg48c1
Neo has issues with the screen settings and certain functions do not seem to work when connected to the apple box. Disappointing but then again I guess you get what you pay for!
I use a smart television so govee is really my only option being that I use my Tele to watch apps (crave, Netflix, Amazon, etc.)
The camera seem a listen annoying but it opens more possibilities
the neo says its 30 fps so does that actually slow down the video quality or what does that mean?
Im asking the same. What About Netflix content and such?
No it won't slow it down
i just bought the regular monster smart light strips for 20$. these hdmi will downgrade my tv fps quality 😕 i have new bravia with 120fps. won’t be fun playing at 30 or 60 fps
Just use a hdmi splitter
Man, you forgot the most important thing. The ZONES. On NEO and Govee you have addressable LEDs. Hue Play Bar is just one light. SO you always will get only one colour for a whole side of tv. Hue Gradient (Philips led strips) have 7 zones but that still nothing to compare with addressable LED strip or with native Abilight TVs
Great video! you made it very simple and clear
Decent review. 6 years ago I bought a Philips Hue Starter Kit with 3 ambiance bulbs (bridge included) then i just added year after year some lights. Shen I had my strip it was easy
Consistent uploads from Michael is not something you see everyday.
The world may end soon haha
I have the old drramscreen 4k hdr it can take 3 hdmis and still works todate shame dreamscreen closed down was amamzing 👍😉
I never heard of that. Do you know why they shut down?
@@MichaelElsegood To many updates for them i think todo for hdr 10 ect ect but philips hue come out beet them as the dream screen only had 3 hdmi out ports hue has 4 lol but the dream screen had better lights and every led worked not like stupid hue in sections ussless as dont do a good as job 🤔 shane they gone if u look it up u can see i had the 4k ones
Same, I’m just looking for a DreamScreen clone
@@rpayne1 wish they would make it with out cams like some have no point them ugly lol 👍😉 i do have the philps hue box now wish it had 5 hdmi ports only 4 lol never have to many hahaha 👍😉
I'm curious; What's stopping someone from installing the Govee upside down so the camera is underneath the TV and less of an eye sore?
Has the option
Govee one is bit scary cuz the camera sticking out ..in term of privacy is it safe ? Camera will not record our room etx
I won’t. The camera points straight down at the screen. During setup you can see what it “see’s” and it purely the screen.
Já estive confuso com os 3 kits ,mas agora já não .
Muito obrigado muito bom vídeo e bem explícito
Phillips is smoking that rock again . They out there mind . You can do all this diy for 80... Wow... Wtf .....GOVEE is the best I have them all over the house ..
Besides the price not sure why would someone buy govee in terms of functionality.
I guess if they wanted to directly sync their TV and not use a spectate device via hdmi.
HDMI 2.1 and the better quality
Just hide the camera beneath (if possible) and you have a kind of original Philips Ambilight TV on an LG C1
I personally dont want to use a seperate FireStick and remote control just to get Ambilight on Netflix/TH-cam when the apps are preinstalled on my TV
LightMi neo syncbox is perfect. The app is somewhat confusing and now and then chinese language I dont understand
Yes but for the price I think it’s decent, what do you think?
@@MichaelElsegood absolutely
Well explained!
What are you smoking?
Ima say diy Hyperion is the way to go
Oh what’s that?
I say glimmr tv is the way to go full integration with hue lifx, nanoleaf, wled plus so many more soon to be released
@@skye7866 I never actually seen this got me interested is the is a all in one solution but or a diy project?
@@InSaiyan-Shinobi all in one sync box
@@skye7866 do you know when it will be released?
Maybe you need to synch audio and vidéo 🤔🍺
Thank you!
Phillips hue next gen should be better and 40% cheaper
Holy shit I am so lost. Give me one that can show the color of my tv, no matter what I put on it whether it be Netflix on the tv or my Xbox,
Great video
Cheers dude! Appreciated!
Govee👑
Thanks for the comparison but dude, DON'T say "Hey Google" during your videos. It can trigger google home devices of your viewers. Not cool.
Whoops 😂
9:12 straight people now that gay people took it
thank you
And where is a comparison. Just listing of tech details of each device and that's it. Wasted time for this video.
haychedmi cord
better just buy Philips ambilight tv and that's it
No hdmi 2.1 on any useless for me smh
