I have had the Philips hue sync box for more than 6 months, when a bright color appears on the screen it is well retransmitted, but when it comes to several colors side by side, the lightstrip only transmits a mixture of all these colors which gives a really less precise and immersive result. I know this is a tall ask but can we get a review of TV Backlights on black walls? I have a black wall and the effects are really meh, starting to realise these are for white walls only
I love all the split screens so we can see all of these brands go head to head. Well done review. I have no idea which to choose. I know we are so better off with so many options compared to 10 years ago. Best sync box .🎁🎁✌✌🤩🤩👍👍
thank you for such a comprehensive review of these sync box options. my question is since my monitor is 4k 240hz, what happens when games hit over the supported 144hz?
@@GeekStreet i cant decide which one to choose.. fancyleds or govee for xbox gaming and movies on tv. Govee is cheaper (4x hdmi vs 3x hdmi) and has ai features for gaming, fancyleds has more lights and better color for hdr.. 🤐 hope saturation will be fixed by an update
what about the dark zones.. does it look unnatural on Govees box? (black and gray display green or blue). is there any fix for this? Govee would be perfect for gaming with its ai featue, if fancyleds had this function too the decision would be much easier
Govee generally works well with dark zones its just the dark greys that suprised me, FancyLEDs has slightly better colour accuracy in my opinion. For me it's just a shame Govee didn't have auto switching.
@GeekStreet Can you check whether they really support Dolby Vision in movies? Not only by verifying checkbox but checking whether light is correct. I heard reports that at least Govee does not support DV.
1st question: What are you able to control with matter on the govee sync box? Have tried using your Apple TV as a border router to use govee in home kit? 2nd question: Wouldn’t Dolby atmos work if you directly plug the soundbar in the earc port of your tv?
1. Not something I've tested yet, as focused mostly on the the syncinsithingof things. 2. It seemed fine to me but it was the only sync box I tested that caused the soundbar to go slightly weird where I lost control of the volume doing different things but like I said it was intermittent.
I haven’t had any trouble after the update on govee box. Dolby vision now works and atmos seems fine with my Denon avr and Apple TV plugged into sync box. Not to intrude on op review but I’ll have a full review on my channel as well. Plus huge giveaways for my 1k subscriber celebration!
How does it work with your Sonos ARC and Sub? Do you connect it to the Sync Box or leave your ARC plugged into your TV? Can you still get Dolby Atmos to your Sonos speakers?
I'm not sure if lytmi is doing anything anymore. They used to post on their Facebook page a lot but they've gone quiet on there with about a year. I have a lytmi fantasy 3 box.
Smart TV apps will not work with it because it can only sync lighting from devices via HDMI. However, do smart TV apps that run on Xbox, like Netflix for Xbox, function?
Do you think hue sync is still better choice than the fancy leds if I only want light behid my tv? I dont mind spending the extra but I also admire how the fancy leds handles dark scenes. I already have some ambient lighting in my living room and Im not interested in syncing them to tv anyways, only the backlight.
My Denon AVR has Monitor 2 output, could one not just plug the HDMI sync box in to that and not even have the output in use, and still have TV directly connect to eARC for video, then no issues with Atoms Dolby etc for sound, but still get the decoded data to the LEDs?
@EverydayElectronics23 I just got the new sync box from govee. Haven't put it up yet, that's a this weekend project. I have 7 other govee lights as well so easy choice for me. I was looking for a home air purifier and guess what- govee makes some and I got that too. Might get a personal heater from govee as well. Love the app and having everything in one place and set to timers
First of all, thanks for the review! At 7:18 , you state that Fancyled supports eARC, however on their website, they say only ARC is supported, not eARC. Could you please confirm?
@malterosch9710 I'm pretty sure it's working as I have a Sonos Arc which is connected via my TV and it worked fine. You could double check by dropping them an email.
Super cool video! I’m currently looking for ambilight and can really decide between Philips or govee system. I already have a Philips bridge and some light bulbs at home but the price is still crazy. My set-up would look like the following. 65“ LG TV, XBOX Series X, brand new gaming laptop and a soundbar therefore high Herz would be nice. Which one would you recommend?
It's a shame you did not include the ambivision based a a fish camera which makes it fully compatible with any source of video standard or DRM protected content unlike the Hue sync box. You could have also mentionned the free Hue Sync App for PC that can replace their sync box.
This video is purely about syncbox's and not cameras based systems but I have tried AmbiVision's cameras based system and the setup for it is absolutely horrendous. I had to contact their support team to help, not sure if they have improved on that but annoying to go through it.
It would be nice to see a comparison with still shots for these lights, particularly some scenarios like orange scenes. I have a Govee camera system and I am so disappointed with its performance with oranges. Wondering if any of these systems would handle that better.
So you mean to say if I watch netflix direct from my smart tv, it will not sync, however, if I have Roku and run netflix via Roku this will sync? Correct?
correct, any tv built in apps wont work only stuff through the hdmi ports to the devices. so amazon firestick, chromecast, ps5, xbox, pc, apple tv, or any other hdmi source etc
Very good all-round video. Hey, I don't know if it's from a software update but Fancyleds is also now compatible with 4k 144Hz and VRR. It is advertised on their website. I wanted to point out that several times throughout the video you mention eARC support, but as far as I am aware, none of them are eARC compatible, they are ARC only.
Thanks for the info, it's good to hear FancyLED’s is 4K 144hz compatible. I'm sure Philips Hue and FancyLEDs state eArc support, i'll have to check again 🤔
@@GeekStreet From the "Compatibility" section on the product page: "ARC is supported, however, eARC is currently not." In their FAQ, there's a more nuanced answer: ARC is fully compatible with all Fancy Sync Box models, enabling Dolby Atmos support. The Fancy Sync Box also works with eARC ports on your TV by maintaining separate connections. For example: HDMI Device > Fancy Sync Box > TV Soundbar > TV eARC port All sound from your HDMI devices will be routed to your soundbar.
Not sure why anyone likes Philips Hue Sync Box seeing as the price is way too high to not come with strip lights for the TV is insane. Not to mention Philips Hue has serious lag and is not nearly as vibrant. GOVEE is the ONLY WAY TO GO!! I’ve owned the original Govee 4K AI Sync Box for 2 years now and have recently updated to the new Govee 8K AI Sync Box 2. Also not sure why you had issues with your Sonos on Govee because I have 2 Sonos home theater set ups with the Arc, Sub, and Era 300s and I have NEVER had any issues with audio. Nonetheless, GOVEE is by far superior to all the other options in every category no matter what your needs are… I can’t believe you would choose Philips over Govee… makes no sense.
Yes really weird, the issue was intermittent not quite sure what the issue was, someone else mentioned the v1 never worked with the sonos arc for them so a weird one
@@GeekStreet that’s wild, I’ve never run into any issues with my Sonos not working with Govee. Hopefully some software updates will correct that for those this happens to!
@@frenchfly9843 not sure what a hover box is unless you meant Govee Sync Box. The Sonos Arc plugs to the tv directly with an HDMI (e-arc) port. You should not be plugging the Arc into any sync box because that’s not how it works.
I will look into your fancyled reviews. I would like to learn more about it's ambient lighting limitations and how you add more lights to their sync scenes. I have a OLED that is mounted very, very flush to Wall but i have some wall "boxes" that i wish I could light up. I wonder how i could best aolve that without going Philips?...
Great video. Thank you very much.🙏🏻 I've had the new Govee Sync Box since yesterday and I noticed that the color reproduction on Blu Rays is much more accurate than when I watch a 4k Blu Ray. Colors often appear that aren't even visible on the screen. Is there any trick to fix this?
Thanks, I wonder if thats HDR related, see if there is an option on your blueray player to temporarily turn off hdr to see if that makes a difference also try adjusting the saturation levels and colours calibration too see if that helps. Let me know how it goes hopefully it'll help others too.
I watch films on my Xbox Series X. I've tried different things again turned off HDR, switched down salturation and the only thing that has changed is that the LEDs turn off in dark scenes now, which they didn't do with HDR on. The colours are still not right on the 4K Blu-ray, for example, orange tones are displayed when there are red tones on the screen. The same film on the normal Blu-ray displays the colours correctly. Hopefully Govee can fix this with an update.
@@EverydayElectronics23 Yeah, I've already tried moving all the color correction controls to the right and left, but somehow the result didn't change. If this is a calibration problem, I wonder why the colors can be reproduced correctly on a standard Blu-Ray. I've now asked customer service to see if they can give me a solution.
@@GeekStreetDid you use the HDMI cables supplied by Govee or did you use your own? I'm not sure but maybe the HDMI cables from Govee are the problem why the colors don't match the picture
Amazing video, I was waiting for this! Great job, I will buy now my FancyLEDS hehe Thank you! Humble question: the soundbar I have to connect in the Sync box or I keep on the TV?
Did you experience any issues with the volume being too low or being inconsistent with your soundbar when using the Govee sync box and your soundbar on the TV? Currently experiencing that with Lytmi so thinking of switching to Govee because I love their dream view on my pc monitor
There's a certain issue I have with the FancyLeds that even their support didn't know what was going on. I was wondering if you have ever had a time where the top and the bottom of the screen were dark in a certain scene and it caused the lights to go back and forth/flicker between black bar mode and non black bar mode. A really good scene that causes this for me is Portals from Avengers Endgame...Hopefully it's not just me! It might be though because this issue did happen when I used to have Lytmi.
Wanted to get the new govee sync box for our new 85" samsung tv--- I'm curious about wiring. I've a yamaha 4k receiver, as well as firetv dongle, and a xbox x. What would the wiring look like? If I used the firetv dongle rather than the streaming apps built-in to the tv, would the colors sync?
Hue sync box 8K works perfectly with my set up. I connect a Nintendo Switch Oled (With a 4K gamer pro), PS5 Pro, Sony X800 MK2 UHD player and a Google tv Streamer. I never had any problems with either the 4K and 8K version and we even use both when needed. The Hue just makes more sense as we use over 40+ other hue lights and switches they never fail making us very happy customers. Would never even touch the other options as they look very cheap imho.
Great comparisons! I must say i am disappointed geeately in gearing FancyLED is so limited in ambient lighting mode. That shouldn't be so difficult to do upgrade. Hopefully they do. That Philips 3D room placement is stuff of dreams. Their LED strip prices and lights however are stuff of nightmares...
Question about eARC... do you not have all your devices connected to the sync box via HDMI and then connect the sync box to your TV via a single HDMI..? So why does just connecting a soundbar via the eARC port on the TV then cause any issue with a sync box?
Hey mate do you think it would be possible to use the Fancy LED Strip to get that precise colour display and plug it into the govee sync box so you can use other govee products plus dreamview
i have the astro a50s from logitech that goes through the hdmi can i just put the out from the headset to the light box and it would work that would be a good test

@geekstreet so if you connect everything to your avr and you put the Fancyleds in between the TV's ARC and the avr ARC then you still have sound on other hdmi channels such as other hdmi ports or your operating system of the TV just no leds am I correct?
Can you explain the Govee Dolby Vision 4k 60hz cap for gaming? why is this the case, I saw someone else had an issue with SONY Tv's specifically so I'm wondering if this is the same issue or not and is only an issue with Sony TVs?
@@PozerKiller very strange I'm looking for your comment and can't find it in held comments but found in my emails. Pasting below for transparency.
@PozerKiller Right. I have put my hands on and tested Fancy Leds finally. A lot of issues. But the most noticeable ones are HDR /DV color inaccuracy and flickering in dark scenes. Literary it picks up light source from where there is no light at all (oversaturated blue). Second thing is orange colour representation. It's literally displayed as green 🤦 SDR work impressive apart from orange colour. HDR is bad and oversaturated even in medium. I've sent mine back and awaiting refund as they admitted the box is defective. I think next one will be Govee 2.👍
Man. That lack of input control or auto change on the govee is such a disappointing deal breaker. The guest and spouse acceptance factor hits the floor in that situation. So very close to being the single best ecosystem play and, as is often the case with govee, just missing one key feature.
I think you've given some of the best product reviews, especially your comparative product reviews. This was straight to the point and very informative. Hello, I already have the Goovy system. Unfortunately, White's position is very disappointing. You can't watch black and white movies, for example, because it either glows blue or pink. You can't calibrate anything. It only works if you want more blue or pink. How is the white color display with Fancyleds?
I really hoped the govee sync box 2 was going to be available from 55 inch in the uk. @@GeekStreet Do you have a link?! I cannot find one for a 55 inch version available in the UK? The link in your description is for the US and it won't let me use the UK for a delivery address.

Alright soo i want my bulb lights integrated aswell for the future as those are the next upgrade. So in this case i only have Govee and Hue as an option am i right? Even though i don't like that it won't black out in the dark spots tbf 😭

We all know the benefits of having a camera setup and sync box. But my question is, do they perform the same? or Sync boxes perform better?
Definetly going for FancyLEDs here as they support SmartThings which comes in handy with my Samsung Soundbar. Also I think this is overall the best solution.
Good choice and I'd also say it has better colour representation
I wouldn't. I commented on the vid
@@TheLaughingLion 🤩
thank you for such a comprehensive review of these sync box options. my question is since my monitor is 4k 240hz, what happens when games hit over the supported 144hz?
So Govee (with fancyleds strips 😅) for Gaming or Fancyleds for movies!!
🤯😅
Incredible comparison video! Thank you!
🫡
@GeekStreet Can you check whether they really support Dolby Vision in movies? Not only by verifying checkbox but checking whether light is correct. I heard reports that at least Govee does not support DV.
thank you for this comparison video!

@@timbarth854 I was able to add the sync box into Homekit and yes my apple TV is my border router.
How does it work with your Sonos ARC and Sub? Do you connect it to the Sync Box or leave your ARC plugged into your TV? Can you still get Dolby Atmos to your Sonos speakers?
You just leave the arc plugged into your TV on the eArc port.
I'm not sure if lytmi is doing anything anymore. They used to post on their Facebook page a lot but they've gone quiet on there with about a year.
I have a lytmi fantasy 3 box.
It's definitely a great sync box, I hope they continue to support it.
Smart TV apps will not work with it because it can only sync lighting from devices via HDMI. However, do smart TV apps that run on Xbox, like Netflix for Xbox, function?
Yes they will work via other devices like an Xbox

very helpful, thank you!
🤩
Do you think hue sync is still better choice than the fancy leds if I only want light behid my tv? I dont mind spending the extra but I also admire how the fancy leds handles dark scenes. I already have some ambient lighting in my living room and Im not interested in syncing them to tv anyways, only the backlight.
If you just want a standalone system I'd say colour accuracy wise FancyLEDs is better
Fancy is the best out
If going for the fancy LED sync box with HDMI 2.0 is worth it? For a 4K 60Hz TV. To play To play with the least possible latency.
@danison2-gg definitely!
My Denon AVR has Monitor 2 output, could one not just plug the HDMI sync box in to that and not even have the output in use, and still have TV directly connect to eARC for video, then no issues with Atoms Dolby etc for sound, but still get the decoded data to the LEDs?
Can you do a comparison with the old Phillips Hue sink box and the new one?
Let's see how much interest in your suggestion if there is a lot I'll look into doing it. Thanks!

Great review as always! Govee is really killing it with their products and prices.
💯

FancyLEDs is a better option for a standalone system and it would seem they also support 144Hz now.
@@GeekStreet From the "Compatibility" section on the product page: "ARC is supported, however, eARC is currently not."
In their FAQ, there's a more nuanced answer:
ARC is fully compatible with all Fancy Sync Box models, enabling Dolby Atmos support. The Fancy Sync Box also works with eARC ports on your TV by maintaining separate connections. For example:
HDMI Device > Fancy Sync Box > TV
Soundbar > TV eARC port
All sound from your HDMI devices will be routed to your soundbar.

@@DevinsSwag did Dolby Atmos work perfectly with the arc when plugged into the hover box?
@@frenchfly9843 not sure what a hover box is unless you meant Govee Sync Box. The Sonos Arc plugs to the tv directly with an HDMI (e-arc) port. You should not be plugging the Arc into any sync box because that’s not how it works.
@@DevinsSwag oh haha stupid autocorrect I meant Govee. Ah ok thanks I wasn’t sure if the arc had to plug into the syncbox or not.

@@marcoloeweryou have to calibrate the colors in app. I might do a video of this on my channel lol
What firmware are you on? I’m pretty sure there is a setting in govee app that allows you to control everything through hdmi connection.
Yes, you can control the hdmi sources via the app but in the video I mean the autoswitching of hdmi sources.
Amazing video, I was waiting for this! Great job, I will buy now my FancyLEDS hehe

@erivangarioli2978 thanks. Soundbar, you connect to your TV
I commented about the fancy leds on the vid. They're bad
Did you experience any issues with the volume being too low or being inconsistent with your soundbar when using the Govee sync box and your soundbar on the TV? Currently experiencing that with Lytmi so thinking of switching to Govee because I love their dream view on my pc monitor
@@itshertybro not at all it was perfect
@@GeekStreet thank you so much for the quick reply and help, your videos are top tier!
Interesting, I actually noticed that on Govee but they had an option to fix it.

Govee didn’t release the 75-85 yet
Hue sync box 8K works perfectly with my set up.
I connect a Nintendo Switch Oled (With a 4K gamer pro), PS5 Pro, Sony X800 MK2 UHD player and a Google tv Streamer.
I never had any problems with either the 4K and 8K version and we even use both when needed.
The Hue just makes more sense as we use over 40+ other hue lights and switches they never fail making us very happy customers.
Would never even touch the other options as they look very cheap imho.

I must say i am disappointed geeately in gearing FancyLED is so limited in ambient lighting mode.

Right.
My question govee support dolby atmos yes or no
I'm contacting Govee to verify this, as they don't mention it anyway.
Yes
You do the test@@EverydayElectronics23
@GeekStreet can you do a update for that topic when govee tell.you
Govee has come back to me stating both are supported but only support the bypass/pass-through, not decode.
Man. That lack of input control or auto change on the govee is such a disappointing deal breaker.
The guest and spouse acceptance factor hits the floor in that situation.
So very close to being the single best ecosystem play and, as is often the case with govee, just missing one key feature.
Yeah exactly I really don't understand why they missed that!
maybe i missed it but i noticed you showed the xbox output support screen but not ps5?
