It's the influence of Chinese dialect (and pasar Malay) when learning from non-native-speaker teachers. E.g. unlike "original" Englishes, which are stress-timed, Singlish is syllable-timed like Southern Chinese languages. That's why you get (in Singlish) the staccato "pow-der-foo" timing instead of (English) "POWderful" where POW is longer than "derful", which contributes to making Singlish sound very different from most Englishes.

Whilst this is supposedly comical, it is SO ACCURATE it hurts.
I have lived in Australia with an SG wife for 20 years and whilst she has "toned it down" some pronunciations NEVER change.
It's so beautiful, and a real connection/identity with her SG roots. Gosh we have fun on our annual trips to the "Little Red Dot"!

Quach Giang I think the problem as to why we say dee ar and why others say there is school, THEU SUCK! Why can’t it just be the same all over the world? It’s very hard for me to do some maths and thinking just to change Primary to Grade since Americans say grades, I always have the explain what is Primary so I just do a quick thinking and figure it out, btw you are a year higher in the school for Americans, so P5 = Grade 6, K2 = Primary 1, Four years and about to start kindergarten = K1 or maybe because there’s one year of Kindergarten in America, idk
