People seem to think that Orwell was such a visionary. And he was, of course. But people forget that people haven't really changed much through the times. Power still corrupts. Politics is not about the best for society. It is about power. That is what it has always been about. Not for the aspiring, ideological politician, but always for those that has been in the game for a couple of years. Because power corrupts. The thing that has changed, however, is the speed and flow of information. Which also makes the second half of another famous quote even more relevant: Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

He’s possibly THE most interesting person to listen to, for me personally. Not only due to the topic, but more so due to his amazing ability to instantly know why you asked the question, what you could be getting at and what you’re trying to learn from the answer. I’ve never communicated with anyone, in person, that could really hear me to that extent. Also, as someone else mentioned, his ability to put abstract and complicated thoughts into a 100% clear and communicable form is absolutely incredible. That’s what made me look for and watch all of his interviews I could find and be just as fascinated by the last one as I was by the first one.

He made us think about whether all those new laws since 9/11 were really necessary or if they even offer the security they claim to offer. In most cases these new laws are not doing what was promised and we learned that all our governments are greedy for data no matter what, the constitution be damned and damn civil rights. I work for AT&T on the cellular side in the network group, way back when it was Southwestern Bell Wireless, then Cingular, we were working on routing ALL calls through their systems. It was a MAJOR project, it required and still does, involve a boatload of people and that’s just one single carrier. Every trade publication wrote about it, it was common knowledge! Remember his interview with John Oliver? It was heartbreaking to watch him realise how clueless people were of the seriousness of his revelations.
Well, I honestly hope this book will be the breakthrough and his sacrifice will finally be truly appreciated.

Sadly....I feel like most aren't going to read his book. Oddly enough I feel like MOST people, at least US citizens don't read much at all. I only say this because to appear on the "Best Sellers" List for the NY Times you need to sell 9000+ books in the first few days, which is not easy to accomplish. So I can only imagine if it is considered a feat to sell 9000 copies of a book a couple days after release, in a country with 320 million people...then most people don't read lol.

*many people won't be able to afford his book, but that doesn't mean his ideas are lost on us*
