@Doncanutcho It's called a squat jerk and some chinese lifters aim at it. They don't power jerk because it doesn't allow mistakes with bar path/stability. Like in the snatch, they can stabilize the bar on the way down. Overhead squatting with c&j weights is no problem for them since they squat very heavy anyway
red = 25 kg, blue = 20 kg, yellow = 15 kg, green = 10 kg, white = 5 kg for the bigger plates and red = 2,5 kg, blue = 2 kg and so on for the smaller plates.
@canelifter111 No doubt. In the 2009 worlds he was flawless and so full of energy. That was one of the best performances I have ever seen from anyone period.
The coaches Decision for Lu doesn't make sense. He needed 203 to take the lead on bodyweight. Instread they weight for the Armenian to take his third at 205 which he misses forcing Lu to take 206. this cost him the championship.
The squat jerk motion may not be difficult for big squatters with highly flexible shoulders but if you've just had a difficult clean I can't see how dropping back down into the hole into what is essentially a clean-grip OHS is going to be easier to recover from than a split jerk?
I expect he will try and redeem himself and attend the Asian Games in November which is in home territory and will probably try to break the record again with 175 kg for his 2nd and 3rd attempt since he will have less competition to worry about.
I wonder why he favors a power jerk and doesnt split jerk, as u see around 6:00 only a tiny bit too low turns the jerk into an overhead squat which is impossible with these weights in my book (the term "impossible" doenst apply to these guys anyway)

@powmongo i think it was already wrong decision to take 175 instead of 173 in snatch. was a great battle!

he's wicked awesome
that power jerk is mythical
@Doncanutcho People who power or squat jerk typically are very squat dominate overall, so the motion is not difficult on their legs.
not only thats a -power jerk but its his greatest weakness
Looks like Lu was just having a bad day. He'll bounce back

yeah you would think it would be impossible
NFL music at 6:50? Must've been on a sunday...
yh i still think sa jae hyouk has a bet cnj i was disappointed for him he didnt break the world. be surprised if lu breaks it
@powmongo maybe the coaches knew he could left the wieght in training maybe..but yea i duno.
how much are each of those plates?
How tall is he?
5'7.75
He looks like a giant baby.
Such a bad status, unwise to try world record instead of Gold medal
