It wasn't until I was much older that I learned Oliver had passed away whilst filming and he I developed an obsession with his mannerisms, attitude and general life Philosophy. A giant of a man, both on screen and off, his vices never detracted from his sheer magnetism RIP Mr Reed, you continue to inspire and lead to this day.

I had a drink with old Ollie in a pub in Ireland while in holiday. He lined up pints of Guiness + whisky chasers . He was a lovely fella ( probably early 50s at the time ). But you got the feeling he could make mincemeat out of you on any topic , he was very astute and kept you on your toes. The TV drunk act is just for show i think, he was polite with the public. I had a terrible headache later trying to keep up at his mental level and thought i was going to die the morning after with the worst hangover ive ever had. I drank so much that i went to the toilet in the pub and couldnt face anymore and sloped off while he was busy chatting to another punter !

Oliver Reed reminds me of some of my French ex girlfriends. I knew going in (no not like that), that I was about to play with one of the wildest of animals... Something so alluring that it was only going to end one way. The sense of imminent danger was 80% of the attraction, never once did I want to tame one. Glad nobody tamed Oliver, but many have enjoyed the danger. My mother still melts when she sees him. 🎯

Oliver Reed was a brilliant actor. And so fast and clever when he was being interviewed. I remember he was on the Michael Aspel and company chat show drunck. Then about 2 years later he was a guest on the same show again, he was so different, he was sober, clean shaven and had on a nice suit and tie on. He walked on and was just so different sober, hes very very clever and when Aspel asked him a question Oliver looked at him for a long 6 seconds then started going into really deep detail about the question and the answer all at the same time and i was age about 14 or 15 at the time and hadnt seen Oliver Reed just as himself and not acting and i thought this mans a walking encyclopedia, i had no idea he was like that. And Aspels face was going pure red incase Oliver asked him what he thought lol and wanting a good answer back but Aspel got of lightly. Becouse i had only seen Olly in films up until then. I remember when i was age about 9 in 1982 i loved staying up late to watch the hammer horror films on a friday or saturday in the good old days. And Oliver was in one of the best horror films i have seen but i just cant remember what its called?? It was made around 1968 to 1971 At pinewood studios, i used to thinck pinewood studios must be huge as in 8 mile long and 8 mile wide. But to cut the story short it was about an old big house that was a bit scary and had a mind of its own wich most of them had, but i clearly remember there was something really dangerous in the attic and i didnt know who or what it was becouse no one ever went up there and inside it for years becouse the ones that did didnt come back out ever again and the house was about 4 floors high and had an empty old swimming pool at the back or the side of the house, so as good as the film was the end was near with 5 to 10 minutes of film left and Oliver got the key of the attic and went up slowly and opened the attic door and slowly walked in and knew where he was going but never spoke, then the next 5 seconds the camera showed Oliver screaming then he dived head first through the window and head and face first into the old swimming pool, as he lay dead with eyes open showing pure fear and blood around his head. Then the words slowly went up as the camera slowly backed away then looked up to the window he came out of to say its in hear and no ones going to see it or him or her. You would bet like most films you would see it at the end, but no not in this one, its funny how they dont even need to show you what was in the attic but its still a great film. I had to laugh when oliver was on aspel the second time becouse he said "the last time i was on this show some one asked me why do you drink and i thought what a complete ass" becouse i enjoy it. Its like some one asking you why do you eat good food. Becouse you like it. Its so true but. You would thinck the people that ask that would even feel a bit daft themselfs for asking the obvious! Oliver was a friend of my boyfriends mum. He was talented but he was also horribly sick with alcoholism and it wasn’t funny. He was seriously very very ill and killed himself in the end. I adored him as an actor but personally things would go down hill very fast and it was more sad than something to admire.

Oliver Reed was a brilliant actor. And so fast and clever when he was being interviewed. I remember he was on the Michael Aspel and company chat show drunck. Then about 2 years later he was a guest on the same show again, he was so different, he was sober, clean shaven and had on a nice suit and tie on. He walked on and was just so different sober, hes very very clever and when Aspel asked him a question Oliver looked at him for a long 6 seconds then started going into really deep detail about the question and the answer all at the same time and i was age about 14 or 15 at the time and hadnt seen Oliver Reed just as himself and not acting and i thought this mans a walking encyclopedia, i had no idea he was like that. And Aspels face was going pure red incase Oliver asked him what he thought lol and wanting a good answer back but Aspel got of lightly. Becouse i had only seen Olly in films up until then. I remember when i was age about 9 in 1982 i loved staying up late to watch the hammer horror films on a friday or saturday in the good old days. And Oliver was in one of the best horror films i have seen but i just cant remember what its called?? It was made around 1968 to 1971 At pinewood studios, i used to thinck pinewood studios must be huge as in 8 mile long and 8 mile wide. But to cut the story short it was about an old big house that was a bit scary and had a mind of its own wich most of them had, but i clearly remember there was something really dangerous in the attic and i didnt know who or what it was becouse no one ever went up there and inside it for years becouse the ones that did didnt come back out ever again and the house was about 4 floors high and had an empty old swimming pool at the back or the side of the house, so as good as the film was the end was near with 5 to 10 minutes of film left and Oliver got the key of the attic and went up slowly and opened the attic door and slowly walked in and knew where he was going but never spoke, then the next 5 seconds the camera showed Oliver screaming then he dived head first through the window and head and face first into the old swimming pool, as he lay dead with eyes open showing pure fear and blood around his head. Then the words slowly went up as the camera slowly backed away then looked up to the window he came out of to say its in hear and no ones going to see it or him or her. You would bet like most films you would see it at the end, but no not in this one, its funny how they dont even need to show you what was in the attic but its still a great film. I had to laugh when oliver was on aspel the second time becouse he said "the last time i was on this show some one asked me why do you drink and i thought what a complete ass" becouse i enjoy it. Its like some one asking you why do you eat good food. Becouse you like it. Its so true but. You would thinck the people that ask that would even feel a bit daft themselfs for asking the obvious! RIP Oliver Reed

Oliver was a friend of my boyfriends mum. He was talented but he was also horribly sick with alcoholism and it wasn’t funny. He was seriously very very ill and killed himself in the end. I adored him as an actor but personally things would go down hill very fast and it was more sad than something to admire.
My old man was one of these characters. Enigmatic to outsiders, nightmare at home. Drunks are boorish, weak and irresponsible.

Seen some of his films and in terms of screen prescence I can' think of anybody who gets even close. Those amazing eyes of his could tell you what was going on his head
