    We had a great time there in May '15. No mosquitoes, little bear cubs, glaciers calving, seals pupping, hooligan running. It was especially wonderful because the two weeks we were there the rain was nominal and we saw Mt. Denali in its entirety!

    What a beautiful video! Planning our Huge vacation in early Sept 2018. Driving from our home in Washington DC to Bellingham, Washington where we board the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry to Haines, Alaska. Then driving up to the Fairbanks area, where we will take a tour bus up to the Artic Circle. I especially enjoyed the video portion showing the day long boat trip from Seward. Looks like another Must on our trip! Coming back we will travel the entire length of the Alaska Highway and come back into the States in Montana and back to Washington DC. Thanks for posting.

    Perhaps I could just stop work for a month and do a whirlwind tour. I feel this need to make it to the North Slope and see the ocean. Denali is a must too. To see both would be a lot of driving.

    Took the Alaska RV trip during June and July 2015 and really had a great time with the exception of area near Destruction Bay in the Yukon. That section of the road was terrible when we went through there.

    to keep the 'skeeters away try taking 200mg of vitamin B1 during mosquito season. I found this out because I wasn't being bit by mosquitoes when I moved back to Florida. Found out it was the three B-125's I was taking every day....375mg of B1..

    You guys are awesome. You inspired us to take a camper up to Natural Bridge VA with an 18 foot camper. We rented it from the Military but I am hooked and looking to get a bigger truck and rent a bigger camper than what our Honda Pilot can pull. We stayed in the Yogi Bear campgrounds on the James River. It was amazing!!

  • @KU9L
    @KU9L 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you guys think the current 31' Classic would be small enough for 90% of those pull-offs and campgrounds on the way to Alaska? We really like the idea of the new 12-volt hydronic heating system that promises to provide quiet and even heating while being easier on the battery bank ... but no 25' version is available anymore. The advice from the SW winter boondockers was to keep an RV 30' or so, I feel the current Classic might be an idea compromise for full-timing if one puts a cap on their truck for covered storage space equivalent to the size those 5er folks typically have. In fact it might even be more storage in total than our 2001 28' 5er had. What say? -Dave

    great video on Alaska Trip. You mentioned in another video, this trip was after prime time. Having not been to Alaska at any time not sure what past "prime" time is.. say end of July or later.
    Also you mentioned a cruise to see whales, glacier.. Some reference as to cost of each adventure would be nice. helps with planning ideas..
    just watched the latest video of the red barn adventure.. was there no place at the guys house to get turned around? the one time you need 4x4 right... :)

    In one of your videos you made the comment that it takes a lot of courage to pack-up and start a 14000 mile across country trip to Alaska. Well my lady friend and myself started off on an adventure much the same as you two. We sailed out of Long Beach, CA harbor and turned South for Mexico on our 38 foot sail boat called 'Proteus'. Before our return we had spent a whole year sailing from one anchorage to another and trying to drink Mexico dry of all their Tequila(we didn't make it)...
    I had equipped the boat to sail any where and any place, including around the world. The boat carried 60 Gal. of diesel fuel, 50 gal of water (I had installed a water maker that turned sea water into potable drinking water at 8 gal per hour. I estimated that we could stay at sea for around 6 to 8 weeks or more without seeing land..
    I'm now putting together a small tandem axle trailer that I will pull with my 2016 Ford 250 Super Duty 250 HP turbo diesel, that should fill my needs for some time. The trailer will also house, while traveling, my VW dune buggy. I live here in Northern Nevada and plan many short trips to see just how well my rig will perform.

    My wife and daughter were on the Glacier Cruise. While the others were watching the upcoming glacier in front of us my daughter and I were scanning the mountain side behind us for mountain goats or whatever and as we were scanning behind a Humpback Whale breached in the wake of the boat. Everything but its tail was out of the water and it was a once in a lifetime sight. Unfortunately only my daughter and I saw it. I yelled "Whale" but it happened so fast the others on the boat only saw the waves created. My wife was sorely dissapointed because she is the real whale fan. It was a great day

    Terrific video as always! I so want to go to Alaska via RV! I do have a couple of questions. Did you have to get passports in order to pass through Canada? Also, it looked kind of cold even though it was summer, so what were the temps while you were there and do you need winter type clothes even though it's summer? Thanks and keep up the terrific videos guys! We love them ! Al & Lucia Davis

      The average temperatures when we were there in August was low 60s during the day and mid to low 40s at night. Of course once September arrived those numbers dropped (brrrr!). Don't expect warm and sunny, prepare for chilly and rainy. We lucked up with several good days of sunshine during our visit, but it was still cold (for summer and early fall).

      Last summer (2018) we had some rain every day, and temps were low, sometimes in the low forties, though usually in high fifties to high sixties. Some years we have gone to Alaska and had temps in the eighties, especially in the interior. We always take a light down jacket, and vest, and one pair of warm polypropylene long johns for the really cold days. A fairly light fleece jacket will work most of the time. LL Bean rubber bottom slip on boots (uninsulated) are great in the back country, or just plain rubber boots, but get them before you leave the lower 48. You won’t believe what they cost up north. Another good clothing item is a rain suit-not just the jacket, but also rain pants. If you have to change a tire in the rain, or even just to break camp, you will be glad to have them.
