Not really my area, but I'd say the route you've gone. I hear a lot of the Chinese ones are copies of "western" ones, protected by copyright laws which basically make it impossible for foreign manufacturers to protect their property. This means the Western companies spend all the money on r and d, following Western safety laws etc. Then counties such as China buy a few, strip them and copy them. Not saying all of China does this, they can and do innovate their own stuff, but it cannot be denied this darker side also happens.
For anything more than a machine that’s to be used infrequently I think going down the route of 2nd hand known brand is a no brainer. Once you’ve been through it you know what you have and there is also the bonus of some great TH-cam content!!!
With the knowledge and facilities you have. The known brand ie kubota, with parts back up is a no brained. Love the channel, always been a keen matador follower.
I definitely would have done what you guys did. I work for a hire company here in Australia. Kubota are the most reliable brand that we have experienced. And parts are easier to come by. Love the videos, keep it up
Because you are you and we all know yout competence , you've defiantly made the correct choice . The good thing about it is we can come along and join the journey on the repair's .
No doubt in my mind that you've made a sound decision. The Kubota is a good machine made by a reputable company that will stock those needed parts for years to come. Best wishes for a great New Year!
Definitely a second hand named machine. Learnt my lesson on Chinese junk yrs ago. It’s like you said about getting parts for them, that could give you a headache. Kabota engines are bomb proof too.
100% second hand quality machine. I bought a JCB 8018 over a cheap alternative which had a few niggles but like you said mucka it’s about parts and service. Nothing worse than breaking down and not having easy accessible parts from suppliers. Great video as was Kimberly’s video. Happy new to you both 👍🏻
I am supprised that you find it easy to get Kubota parts. I have a 1994 5450 Kubota tractor for which i needed a new starter motor, I contacted Kubota directly to find a dealer and they did not even bother to get back to me, then the Thurlow Nunn Vauxhall garage closed in Fakenham and reopened some time later and claimed to be a Kubota dealer, I went in and asked about a starter motor and they said they would get back to me they never did even after several phone calls in the end I found someone who could supply the starter on ebay the motor was Chinese but it was at least better than the one the smoke had escaped from. The only place I could get a new fuel filter bowl from was the US. Never had so bad a parts service in the fifty odd years I have been buying parts for various things. But yes I would buy second hand rather than cheap Chinese but not Kubota.
@@LordMuck I will give them a try next time I need some parts, but I suspect that due to its age Kubota are not interested, I got this tractor to mow a paddock I have rather than spend the same sort of money on a new mini tractor which would break in a few years and parts not be available due to it being made in China with a non Chinese name on it like JD or NH etc.
Definitely spares or repair! Everything you do to it will be adding value, maybe not as much as you spend but you're not going for a quick profit. As soon as you buy the cheap new one it becomes an even cheaper 2nd hand digger. Loving the content 👍
KUBOTA all day every day as you say part's are easy to get, I always liked working on these when I was in the plant game in the late 80s early 90s . Their tracked dumpers were a brilliant bit of kit .
I think buy second is the best route as you have the skills and know how to bring back to its best . Kubota will always have parts etc in the future plus we can watch you repair it . Thanks
She's definitely worthy of second life mucka, I really enjoy seeing videos of machines brought back to there full glory, if I ever won the lottery I would genuinely get a big plot of land with a workshop, where I could buy some tired old machines (like an old hymac) you see on sites like ebay and restore them back to original factory condition and play with them like a big kid :)
Hi there me lord, have a good Christmas and a happy new year, Yes great video again as for which route I would go is the one you are going down as I think you are still going to save some money plus you all ready now what a Kubota is like.👍⭐️💥💥
I would go the second-hand route all day long. As you say, the support and parts are there. Once done you know it will be a good machine. Buying new could still end up giving you major issues not far down the line.
I work for a plant hire company and we run mostly Kubota digger’s. We have found a that there is a plug down by the floor plate next to the radiator and it rubs the wires through and corrodes. I have done a few king post pins and bushes on them and there quite easy all the hoses disconnect from the bottom of the valve block and feed out as nice and straight forward.
Kubota all day every day, I've worked on them since I left school and find them a pleasure to work on and fix, it's also nice to see Shell Plant mentioned ,I've used them for parts since I started work and its also where our company buy there machines from, can't recommend them enough.
That's a great buy👍I've always liked to pick up the used equipment especially from a trusted manufacturer it makes life so much easier for parts back up and that Kubota looks great for an ex-hire company one👌a pin and bush kit will really tighten it back up and the electrical gremlins are hopefully just fraid wires🙏great start to the new year🍻
You’ve definitely made the right decision buying it, even thought you might use it 5 times a year you’ve always got it and could also hire it out. It’s there for any odd jobs you need, good engine in it , very reliable so there shouldn’t be to much to do with it, good luck with it 👍🏻
Nice to meet you Boxing day in person mate 👌 We decided to do the same thing & bought a Kubota KX41-2 from Cheffins up the road from us & do not regret it because they're so well built plus it's nice to know you can get the parts long term...
Second hand quality always. Fix and mend when possible. Makes sense to invest your time and money into a brand which a good reputation, and spares availability. Top work.
Kubota every time. Good machines, worked for a firm that ran quite a few of them (retired plant fitter) main problem was the seat covers pulling the levers. Good luck with your one👍👍👍
just in the same place myself looking at buying a digger and thanks to ur vid you have helped me make my mind up be scanning the adds for second hand known makes machine
Bought one (U10, zero swing version), dug footings for extension, sold it on, less hours but a lot older than yours. 100% the right decision, castings all the right size to not break given its pull out force, plus spares availability and rock solid engine, way better than the Chinese alternatives. Best of all the money you put into it you most likely will get that back if you ever resold it. £5k was a cracking price for what is basically a fully working machine - all working controls, actuators, hydraulics.
That was a great price. I just bought a 2016 at the Euro Auction in Leeds today for £7K and I think that is a good price. Really looking forward to see what repairs and servicing you do so I can learn!
Hi, definitely repair a good, reliable make, brand every time, in the end it will be worth it both financially, plus the fact you’ve sorted it and done it yourselves. Clifford
You made the only choice there is, only one brand for quality machines and part within micro and mini diggers and kubota have been this for years. With the support from the other companies likes of digits etc them machines will go on forever. I used to own a 008 and the only issue I ever had apart from general wear was the hyd slew block needed to be resealed (2000 hrs ish) but within a few hours in the workshop it was done and earning again and all the seals fit from one of them multi boxes. Keep up the good work.
As ever great video!!!! Without doubt kubota and repair to many things just get thrown away these days. Look at what you get when finished!!! Also sense of achievement.
Definitely have gone down the same route as you have. Better a slightly knackered quality machine with parts backup than a throwaway product of dubious quality. Way to go,happy new year mucker!😎
Second hand, my dad bought a Sany 5 ton brand new I couldn’t wait for it to be delivered as it was the first thing we had bought brand new only to be disappointed when it arrived. we have a rough 5.5ton doosan and that is twice the machine. Even though the Sany is new tight with hydraulic quick hitch the power can’t back it up you can pretty much only do one movement at a time cab is tiny no movement on the seat would definitely jump on the doosan every time
Happy New Year and all the best for 2023 Lord Muck, I'm like you, I would of gone the same way, quality of the kubota even though spares or repairs and by the time the jobs are done you know exactly what you've got and that it's gonna serve you well
Can't beat Kabota the are awesome in the smaller range not to mention their ride on mowers and skid steers . I think that was a good buy and will serve you well when sorted .love your work and happy new year.
I’d say that you’ve gone down the right road with this, kubota equipment is well made and built to last, and like you say the parts backup is there, you can’t be sure that you’ll get parts for these cheaper machines in 3/4 years time. Great video! Happy new year
I think you are on a winner with this machine. Invested money, some work and some parts and hopefully you should end up with a nice bit of kit with a well proven name. Working out at a fair price.
I'd go used we borrowed small Kubota digger while ago. As we didn't own it didn't spend much time on it greased it and checked the fluids. Unfortunately there was crap in the tank which got sucked up and ruined the pump. Machine still in the field now serval months on awaiting a rebuilt pump. Long story short wish I'd bought a machine and gone through it. As that broke because of a shear lack of maintenance.
I think you have taken the best option as like myself you can’t beat having a tinker and getting your hands dirty and enjoying the rewards after the hard work is finished grate video 👍🏻
I think you made the right choice, think I'd of done the same. Least with kabota you have access to spares in 4/5 years down the line. Possibly not with a cheaper chinese one.
Kubota all day long...similar to when my firm wanted to chop the Isuzu in for a Great Wall at Hammonds. Needless to say it stayed on the forecourt even with 500 notes worth of GW clothing.
Seems well enough bought and a known well respected brand and given a good going through and sort out its few age related issues I'd say it should be a good machine plus you will know her well as you work on it and hopefully know its properly sorted.... just done a similar thing with a tractor .... 08 reg 2900 hrs but been sombodies work tool n not loved .... the basics are all right enough but needed tidying ... anyway good luck...👍
Secondhand spares and repairs. Backup and parts availability is vital if you want to keep a machine running, also the knowledge of others who have run them in the past. You don't know what kind of parts would be in those Chinese knockoffs. I'm only taking this from my own perspective when it comes to small equipment such as wacker plates, mowers etc. Don't have any experience with diggers but you would think it would be the same principle. Also just to say have a great 2023 and keep the vids coming.
Definitely went the right route in my eyes mate, stuck with what you know. Always dodgy ground with ex hire machines but it’s a quality make, from a reputable company, never had one let me down. That grease gun has to stay right there 😂 please leave it cable tied on.
I think if I was to buy a second hand mini digger I think I’d probably do what you have! Because at the end of the day you can say it’s fixed properly and confident enough to hire it out. Fenland Rob
I think you've done the right thing, I would of had the kubota any day 👍🏻 I've got a 1986 kubota b8200 compact tractor and I know I could go and buy parts for that today after all these years !
I would definitely buy the used equipment, as long as it was a decent machine.. Replacing/repairing some items immediately is something we are all used to in the secondhand market, we just hope it's not an engine or other major component haha glad to see you went the Kubota route!! great machines!!
Happy New Year Mucker..I'm 100% with you and your route quality will come through at the end of the day...Nice having a shiny new machine but if you can't get parts for it which will ultimately happen, it isn't earning anything sitting in the shed broken..👍
i work for deere and i think you got a good price on that. i remember a customer who had a fire damaged 17G mini excavator, he wouldn't sell for $12K back in 2017. Its amazing what good quality and good parts backing will get you in resale alone. Everyone wants to move dirt!
Would usually agree with you Podge but back in 2019 we bought loading shovel from china. Zf transmission and 225 HP Cummins engine. Some yoke to push grass. Got on really well with dealer so bought 6tonne track machine last June. No regrets yet. DGM is the brand name.
i think you done the right way Kubota top kit i have looked and some imports no /little back up and and you know you need to work on the Kubota and as you just shown us i know it was a battery but you know. happy new year and all the best for 2023
Parts back up, service, you get what you pay for. I've learnt buy cheap buy twice, ive tried it and still end up wishing you had gone for the better, known brand. You've done the rite thing mate. Roll with it. Muck is money
Better to have a machine with back up and parts than something new and shiny that won't last
I’ve got an old kubo that I brought to do a self build. Great piece of kit. Definitely go for a well known brand.
Great choice, Kubota all the way
I think you got a good deal with the little Kubota.
Seems if you stick with the major brands you can always recoup the money back out of them.
Yeah pretty much all of China does this....
@@mwnciboo Yup, and then redesign so not one single corner is left uncut 😂
A Chinese digger is nothing like a Kubota etc there just crap
Definitely second hand of a known make , at least when you go through it and fix it up , you know what you have ,
Keep up the good work on the videos
I wouldn’t waste my money on the Chinese Spaff, secondhand Kubota if it was me 👍
For anything more than a machine that’s to be used infrequently I think going down the route of 2nd hand known brand is a no brainer. Once you’ve been through it you know what you have and there is also the bonus of some great TH-cam content!!!
Thats a bargain, I would have bought it.
Not my area either, but the Kubota every time. My mate has an elderly Hitachi excavator, it is beautifully engineered and still eminently repairable.
"You can buy good tools once, or buy cheap tools a lot."
To be able to get parts for any machine is the most important thing especially when you're busy you guys make the right choice
Kubota every time.
With the knowledge and facilities you have. The known brand ie kubota, with parts back up is a no brained. Love the channel, always been a keen matador follower.
Buy once cry once
Just bought a second hand one our self, so very interested in your videos going forward 👍🏼
I definitely would have done what you guys did. I work for a hire company here in Australia. Kubota are the most reliable brand that we have experienced. And parts are easier to come by. Love the videos, keep it up
The Kubota was 100%wright choise especially when you can do work yourself 👍👍👍
Mucker you went the right way with your purchase. You can get parts readily, and can go through jobs in good order. Keep it up Mucker 🚜 👍 🛠
Kubota every time spares are readily available, keep up the good work 👍🚜
Great vid as always, seen the other vid with Kimberly. Happy new Year both.
Definitely the 2nd hand option, as former Kubota trained engineer, I think you have made the right choice.
Definitely go for Kubota used them for many years and found to be reliable
KABOTA as you have said Kurt parts availability reputable name for sure. HAPPY NEW YEAR mucker to you and yours.
Definitely a second hand named machine.
Learnt my lesson on Chinese junk yrs ago. It’s like you said about getting parts for them, that could give you a headache.
Kabota engines are bomb proof too.
I would go down the kabota route well made parts easily to get hold of good operator controls.
100% second hand quality machine. I bought a JCB 8018 over a cheap alternative which had a few niggles but like you said mucka it’s about parts and service. Nothing worse than breaking down and not having easy accessible parts from suppliers. Great video as was Kimberly’s video. Happy new to you both 👍🏻
Can't beat a proper machine. Looking forward to seeing her progress!
Great little bits of kit. With your knowledge it will be (hopefully) plain sailing

You hit the nail on the head, 2/3 years down the road, I can't see many knock off machines still around unless there's parts backup... :)
