Just a short video of Steve's 1977 model Commander which turned 35years old on April fools day. We put a HAPPY BIRTHDAY banner on the front of the old girl for the latest log boat
Owned one of these old girls in the 80's running interstate for the old SPD Transport, great truck had 350 Cummins and could out run many a Mack and Kenny, yep no AC or Auto box but then again back then 70 and 80's was when truckies really had fun and didn't need all the mod cons, who am I trying to fool I would of loved AC nice memories
@@kevintaylor7660 G'day mate, yer I ran out of Moorebank NSW, regular run was Moorebank, Spotswood, Dry Creek and Acacia Ridge, absolutely loved working for SPD, one of the better mobs I subbied for, unfortunately it all ended one saturday morning in Footsgray when a poorly loaded double stacked trailer decided to go over, great memories.
some of my earliest memorys are in the passenger seat of an old road commander on the coal in the blue mountains very early 80s, good to see one still in action.
I drove one for Marchetti's in 1981, with a Hendrickson walking beam suspension I think it was the roughest riding truck I ever drove in and yep, it had a 290. It was written off in a head-on with another Road Commander. They weren't bad in their day, and the wrap-around dash preceded KW's by quite a few years.
Hey man I saw you coming into Port Hedland last Sunday morning with 2 trailers of sleepers on. Would be great to try and catch up while you're up in these parts??
Cool old truck, You guys in Oz have a lot of great old trucks. Here in the US, particularly where I live and work in the eastern seaboard, that truck would have rusted out and been junked within 10 years. Snow, Lots of rain, road salt, and salty air would have killed that old truck here years ago.
Saw your comment in my email, but doesn’t show up here? Yes we’ve been doing a few loads from Melbourne to Pt Hedland for BHP rail but the next lot in a few weeks is going to Yandi I think. If you see me give me a yell or if I’m parked bang on the door. Would be good to meet you.
Well, Troy, I believe you, when you said it had one of the most fantastic gearshift, but to me it look quite sloopy and akward .. but you must know.. thanks for the ride in the truck. Cheers Haustan
So is your name steve or troy.?keep the videos coming bloke.my dad had one of the first white road bosses here in australia, cart bricks out of bowral.then he had a 2670 sline big cam 350.might see ya on the road one day man.
great to see still running good
One of the best looking cab overs ever made. Legend Truck

Thank you Troy for showing off a great old girl. (White Road Commander, 15 Speed)
That engine is one of the nicest diesels i have ever heard

My first truck was a 74 RC...we used to call it the Road Commode...lovingly.

Drove one of those in the West, had a 6v71 in her. I loved that old girl...
Didn't know they put a V6 in these. My father had a half sleeper single drive Atkinson with a 6-71 went on trips with him when I was 5 years old.

That looks like the early 70’s version of the White road commander.
That's what I was thinking
Nice-sounding Cummins, mate!
Damn she's a fine ole girl!!👍
ive currently got marchettis road boss that were restoring
That old truck with 3 trailers on going up the Mingela would just about kill it.
yer we have the 335 cummins daycab one with the big twin stacks on it.
THE LITTLE FANS NOT NOISY AT ALL AY! ... another great vid...
Which one? I drove the Road Boss with the 335 Cummins and no sleeper. He had 3 Road Bosses at the time I drove for him and I think 2 Road Commanders.
