  • This footage is from the Ian Saffin Collection. Ian was an employee of OGR Distributors Adelaide in the position of Technical Services Manager from 1972-79. OGR Distributors were located at 1459 Main North Road, Para Hills West. They were the White Truck and Leader Truck Distributors in Adelaide. You will see the office and the workshop with a few White trucks and tractors. You then will see a very plain-looking Autocar which was a Canadian Logging Spec. with the air horns mounted on the side of the cab. Bruce McDonald purchased this truck and OGR transformed it into what you see in this film.
You will also see the man himself, Ian Saffin, climbing out from the McDonald's Transport Autocar. This truck featured on the Channel 7 News as being something special after its maiden trip from Adelaide to Alice Springs and return back to Adelaide. Autocar was a rare make in Australia at the time. Bruce McDonald and Ian Saffin went 2 up on this trip. Ian would eventually leave OGR and work for Bruce McDonald as General Manager from 1979-84.
You will also see Brian Umpherston Branch Manager for OGR walking towards the camera. The other cameraman seen in the film was shooting footage for White Trucks in and around the Barossa Valley. Some of that footage can be seen in my previous uploads of the Road Boss launch at The Rocks, NSW. Hope you enjoy it and if you want to see more White Truck videos please subscribe to my channel.

A fantastic film, thank you for sharing this with us
I seem to recall reading in Truck and Bus at a guess in the early 80's that McDonald's used subbies at first for many years before buying there own Kenworths, I could and most likely am wrong

Thanks for the great videos Ray. I used to drive for Cains Transport Portland so these videos hold a lot of nostalgia for me.

They had a really nice half cab Atkinson with 335 Cummins. This footage is unreal.
