I got the chance to hit up the beautiful, but extremely windy, Waterton Lakes National Park in Southern Alberta, Canada this past week. And though I've been before, it rained on me pretty hard last time. Thus, this time, my trip was more about scouting out the region for some good photography locations. I also thought it would be a good opportunity for me to take you through and show you, a bit behind the scenes, on what a travel photographer does in regards to their photography location scouting.
This video will take you through my basic of how I go about deciding where to shoot and when. It also shows you a bit of the work that goes behind getting cool images rather than just the behind the camera stuff.
Anyways, lots more to come on this channel, so stay tuned and subscribed!

Liked this a lot, the workflow is great to know good starting points to help with locations you're not used to, I'll try this out thanks :)

Hey first time viewer here and already enjoying :). A quick tip which will add to this tutorial. in the bottom right corner in Google maps where the streetview Man is, over to the right a bit there are 2 arrows. Clicking these will bring up Google images geotagged in the area you are looking at, simply hover over the image and you will see a line pointing to the (almost) exact location it was taken. You can also click it for a larger view, without even navigating away from the page :)
Hope this helps you guys, happy shooting

Awesome tip Max! I should have included that. I actually also use a tool called Loc.alize.us which does similar things pulling geo-tagged images from flickr. Thanks for checking out the video and hope you stick around for more of your helpful info like that!

All the beauty of Waterton is in the backcountry, not in and about town. Redrock Canyon is a joke compared to places like Crypt Lake, Crypt Tunnel, Summit trail hike, including Carthew Lakes, Alderson Lake, etc. 2 days in Waterton doesn't do the place justice at all since they are the tourist traps like Cameron Falls. Hope you find the time to return and check out the other places......they are fabulous.....
