  • The film, Beneath the Surface: The Storied History of Onondaga Lake, covers the amazing history of the lake and the remarkable impact it has had on our American Way of Life over the past six centuries. From the birthplace of the Great Law of Peace and the great Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the first representative democracy in the west, to the production of the country’s largest supply of some of its most important commodities and innovative products, to the Resort Era and the WPA project that built Onondaga Lake Park, to the most polluted lake in America, to one of the largest Superfund Clean-up sites in history, to a tourist attraction and the center of economic, cultural, recreational, educational, and natural development in our community.

Indian are all over these United States. Their history, culture is to be remembered along with white settlers seeking a new way in a new land.

Stopped by in 2021 to check on the successful environmental cleanup effort and the restoration of Onondaga Lake for multi-use today! Always loved the lake regattas from the shoreline before the cleanup effort, and of course, Hoffman hotdogs across from the park and the Salt Museum. A display was featured on the original environmental plan at the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) in Downtown, Syracuse, New York.

This is a wonderful video. Thank you so very much. This history is as important as any other that we’ve been made to learn.

This is a small part of a much longer film produced by the Executive Director of the OHA, Gregg Tripoi. I had the enjoyment of watching it in the company of friends a few summers ago. It is well made and provides great insight into the history of Onondaga Lake. Your time is well spent seeking a venue to see the entire film. Sedona Thomas Brown

This looks really good. Stuff I wish the history Channel still did. Haha any chance I might be able to rent this? I'm out of state but grew up in Camillus. I'd love to see this.

This trailer was produced a year ago. What's the status of the documentary?

"Massive cleanup" what a joke that was.
