BIZZARE & GIANT Side-Mounted Telescopic Hydro Elevator - Microsoft Experience Center - New York, NY

This is one of the strangest elevators I've ever seen! First of all, it's literally giant and very overkill for a store like this. It has two COPs, one at each end, and glass doors. The coolest and, truthfully, most concerning thing about this elevator is the guide rail configuration. While riding this elevator, it felt really unstable and it also made some very interesting noises that I haven't heard any other hydraulic elevator make. After the video, I wanted to see what was going on underneath the car. I was extremely confused when I first looked into the shaft and saw that there were just two small guide rails on the side with a telescoping piston in between. I've never seen something like this before and I wonder why they chose to do this. I feel like the only reasons were to make the hoistway more simplistic and to make the glass side unobstructed with hoistway equipment. Whatever the reason(s), this is a cool and WEIRD elevator!

Hi, I’m kind of confused. Can you describe the shape of this elevator to someone who is completely blind and can’t see it?

This elevator is a rectangle with a door on each side

Dont know if this one is but MEI like doing these. The rail loads are stupid even empty car. On a car this size we would try to use an in ground jack centered under the car. Supporting the car from the CG rather than cantilevering it drops rail loads big time. Guessing this car has polyurethane rollers under a lot of load making the noises. Bad design if you ask me.

Just like that one MEI in LV. I had a feeling that it was gonna be unstabled bc how tf can an Elevator keep its balance with only one sided piston, guiderail, etc?? Idk how Dover/Schindler 321A/330A are able to keep their balance with a single hydraulic jack. Again, I bet it's tilting away from the shaft itself. It's like a sideways forklift where it lifts you up
