Hey, mate. This is a very nice review. I'll preface by admitting Marvel Multiverse isn't my bag, really. I preferred Marverl Heroic Roleplaying, personally. But, to each their own and I'm super glad you and all y'all are having fun with this game. The algorithm recommended you out of the blue and you seem to really love this game and it shows. That's awesome. I'm glad you're having fun. All the power to ya. I decided to pick up the X-Men book and, even though I'll probably use it to run a Prowlers and Paragons game or a game in a retroclone I made, I thought it was a great resource for X-Men lore. I am a casual X-Fan. I mainly just know the big events because I only follow the main X-Men series, not all the secondary teams. I also watched the shows. And I got into the comics in a very weird place. The, uh, Bendis era. I know, I know, but I liked it and it made me stick around. The mechanics also seemed cool. I'm still not sold on the base. I won't harsh your vibe explaining why. But, I thought the choice of what to modify was well thought out and it was cool seeing some of these ideas in the game. Especially the Horsemen rules and Secondary Mutations. I liked those quite a bit. It gave me some ideas. I think this book is a great resource for X-Men games, even if you don't plan to run Marvel Multiverse. But one I will not let go and I'll admit this makes me an oldie is the refusal to just release a PDF copy. It's just nice having a digital copy you don't have to worry about damaging ans that you can read while using the bathroom. I don't get why they won't do that. Sure, there is a risk of piracy, but its industry standard because it lets you actually own the digital product. Also, realistically, not realising a PDF doesn't stop piracy. Some guy still went out and converted their corerule book into a PDF Anyway, rock on, dude.
Thanks for the comment! Appreciate your approach so much - lots of games out there with different pros and cons and everyone is allowed to love what the love and that doesn't take away from anyone else's choices. And I'm glad people are bringing up the PDF thing - I personally don't like reading off of PDF's, but that doesn't mean I can't advocate for the people in the community that do, and the better I understand the position, the better I can do that. I also appreciate you sharing your perspective as someone using the book as a non-MMRPG player, mining it for ideas and for the lore. I think that's really cool! Love that you got value out of it (just as MANY people in the MMRPG community still look back to the old FASERIP rules for inspiration!)
Thanks, Fuzzy!! I know I'm not alone here in voicing my frustration over not being able to get a PDF version (free or greatly discounted) after buying the physical book, and especially counter to what seems the rest of the industry does. It really is annoying. Rant aside, I do agree that this is a pretty awesome book.
As someone who has been a Pathfinder Adventure Path subscriber since Rise of the Runelords (you get a free PDF with every monthly book, if you're a subscriber), I personally understand the value of getting the free PDF. I suspect that Marvel's policy on PDF's was something in place at a company wide level, and more related to comics/graphic novels. I'm sure their Marvel Unlimited business would be hurt if PDFs of comics were easier to get. I haven't heard anything from the game designers themselves that they're anti-PDF or anything. I think the best way to move to needle would be to submit feedback to them (on marvel.com/rpg) with your ideas about why it would be a good thing for the consumers and the game if PDF's were available. As a former Product Manager I know the only way to change a company policy, or a superior with an entrenched position, is with data! And companies do track/tally the requests they get in from consumers.
Fuzzy gratz on a 1000 Subscribers now to the X MEN expansion it has so many ideas and hooks it may take you years to play all them hooks and ideas . There was only like 3 profiles i really didnt know much about them me i got in to the comics comics around Uncanny X Men 184 and read them up to 333 then took a break for awhile then on and off tell about 4 or 5 years before Krakoa era started . i dont know much the class chapter after Generation X but that would be fun maybe making the originals Hellions as team and start them at rank 1 and with the new rank up system tell you get to rank 3 or 4 in the system . i saw a video and they was talking to Matt FORBECK and he was saying they want to try get out 2 big books a year. Spider Man Multi verse book i think is going to be 256 pages too then what ever is planned after that book. i do like the updated and expanded on some current powers and also has new powers i think they should keep that up with the bigger books . Thanks for the breakdown, Fuzzy! I'm a bit on the fence about getting this one as I play mostly via VTT and through Roll20 in particular. Im also particularly bummed that they stuck Multiple Man with "narrative powers," essentially making him an NPC in a book that absolutely should be featuring him as a playable PC.
In your case it might make sense for you to wait until September to pick it up in Roll20 (if you wanted to pick it up at all I mean). It sounds like there's a good chance Roll20 users will eventually grant access to Demiplane including the character builder. @@FuzzyOnTheDetails Nope, I live in the States. Nobody in my town has the book yet. Not my FLGS or the big-box stores. Just have to be patient I guess.
I am so frustrated that Marvel/Disney refuses to publish these books in PDF form. The maps in this book are amazing, but what good are they if I can't print them out and enlarge them for players at my table to use? It is simply unacceptable in this day and age for any TTRPG book like this to be put out without a PDF alternative. The "piracy" argument is criminally weak and unacceptable at this point!
You’re definitely not alone. I think you laid out a good use case there with the maps. I have a scanner but would ruin the binding if I used it. If you haven’t already, I’d submit feedback on the marvel site and if enough people do so maybe a change can be made. Like I said I don’t think the RPG guys are fundamentally against it or anything.
Sorry to ask, but does this require the core rulebook mandatorily? Sorry if it's obvious, but I need to ask because both would be too expansive for me to buy, and I rather the x-men focused one.
This may be a question you should ask Deniplane directly, as I don’t have the personal experience of having the XME but not the CRB. forums.demiplane.com/c/marvel-multiverse-character-tools/16 Here’s what I THINK your experience would be. You will definitely be able to read the XME in full. So if you’re just looking at this as a digital version of the book, then you should be good to go. I’m not sure exactly how the character builder would work. My understanding is that there’s some baseline functionality you’ll see but not all the powers/traits/tags etc from the CRB. I assume the Getting Schooled functionality will work in full. Obviously you won’t see all the profiles from the CRB.
I don't know for sure, and don't have any insider information or anything, but here are the general patterns I see, and how I interpret them: 1) MMRPG can create PDFs for bonus/free content (like the Excalibur chapter) 2) 3rd Parties (ilke Roll20) can create PDF's of their own work (like the Super Skrull adventure) 3) MMRPG doesn't sell PDF's for their own published products If I had to bet, this is an overarching Marvel policy and not a specific MMRPG policy. In fact, if you look at the speed in which the MMRPG team gives away free stuff in PDF format, you could easily interpret that they're fans of the format!
@@muigokublack6487 Hey there! I had an opportunity to speak with Marvel today, and I have their permission to share the following: the Kindle format is “coming soon”, and they are also working on making some improvements to the Kindle version of the Core Rulebook version, based on some user feedback. Outside of that, no details that I’m at liberty to share, but they definitely understand that community members like you are waiting on it, and working not only on getting it out but also improving the overall experience. I’ll keep looking and will share more information as soon as I get it! (would love to know your feedback if/when they make updates to the CRB to get a sense of what they are!)
Here's the current state of the digital products: 1) Demiplane: Available (and comes with the character builder functionality, and ability to share the book with up to 24 people if you are a Demiplane subscriber) 2) Roll20: Not Yet Available. Per Roll20, this is due in "September". I checked the boards for an update but could not find any, so we're still not sure if that means 2 days from now or 30. Tokens and other digital assets for use in the VTT are actually avaialble now. 3) Kindle: Not Yet Available. Per Marvel, this is supposed to be available "soon", but I do not have an exact date to share (I'll update in the comments of this video if I hear anything new on that front!)
Quite a few got Profiles, actually! Blob, Toad, Destiny, Pyro, Mastermind, Black Tom, Exodus and Shadow King all have the "Team: Brotherhood of Evil Mutants" label. Alas, no Avalanche - but Perry Lee-Rummel has a build you can find here: www.fuzzyonthedetails.com/profiles
Sadly going to have to skip this book. Doesn't really have anything I need for my game, but mostly the lack of a PDF to purchase is what really kills it. I'm not going to buy an expansion on a single platform, no way. It's crazy that we're all just acting like it's okay. We aren't even allowed to own our TTRPGs anymore.
While I think that you are missing out by not picking up this product, I agree that more companies need to provide a free pdf with all physical purchases, like Modiphius does.
I would definitely share some feedback with the MMRPG team at marvel.com/rpg. The PDF policy isn't - to my knowledge - something the game designers put in place. It seems to be more of a Marvel thing, probably in place to protect comic book sales. If they had more evidence that MMRPG sales would increase because potential customers like you would purchase products as a PDF, that could only help!

In the future, I advise you to look at either the chapter headings at the bottom of the video, the text chapter headings with timestamps in the middle of the video description, or the visual chapter headings at the bottom of the description, all of which indicate when I begin speaking about Chapter 1, and couuld have taken you there with a click.
I see they're continuing with this customer hostile distribution model and attempting to sell us the same content multiple times. Guess they found enough people willing to pay for a hardcopy, searchable docs, offline docs, and VTTs separately.
Personally, I value the ability to share content + the S-tier character creator when I make a decision to purchase Demiplane products. I’ve got multiple groups I play with, like 10-12 people total. If we share the cost it is like less than 5 bucks each for the book. For me, honestly, it doesn’t feel like a predatory practice, it feels like a steal. But I’m sure I’d feel like you if all I wanted was a PDF.

I’m not sure exactly how the character builder would work. My understanding is that there’s some baseline functionality you’ll see but not all the powers/traits/tags etc from the CRB. I assume the Getting Schooled functionality will work in full. Obviously you won’t see all the profiles from the CRB.
Hey fuzzy do you know why we don't have PDFs for certain books?
I don't know for sure, and don't have any insider information or anything, but here are the general patterns I see, and how I interpret them:
1) MMRPG can create PDFs for bonus/free content (like the Excalibur chapter)
2) 3rd Parties (ilke Roll20) can create PDF's of their own work (like the Super Skrull adventure)
3) MMRPG doesn't sell PDF's for their own published products
If I had to bet, this is an overarching Marvel policy and not a specific MMRPG policy. In fact, if you look at the speed in which the MMRPG team gives away free stuff in PDF format, you could easily interpret that they're fans of the format!
@@FuzzyOnTheDetails thanks for the answer. I would like a digital that is not vvt or kindle with a physical copy. Hopefully they put PDF soon.
I managed to get my book digned vy the interior artist Ruiari Coleman and he was absolutely lovely
@@joshualunn32 that’s awesome!!
@@FuzzyOnTheDetails He's also gonna be on the art for the Spider-Verse expansion! Its made me super excited to run my own X Game!
@@joshualunn32 that’s cool - I love the consistency between books with returning artists and authors!
I'm still waiting on the kindle version to be released :(
I know a few are! I'll update here if I can any additional information from Marvel on that.
Did you have the CRB on Kindle?
@@FuzzyOnTheDetails Yes along with Deadpool Role-Plays The Marvel Universe.
@@FuzzyOnTheDetails I'd be more than happy to share feedback if/when that does happen because I want this game to succeed and have a long lifespan!
@@muigokublack6487 a fan after my own heart :-)
When is it releasing digitally
Here's the current state of the digital products:
1) Demiplane: Available (and comes with the character builder functionality, and ability to share the book with up to 24 people if you are a Demiplane subscriber)
2) Roll20: Not Yet Available.
1000🥳🎉
Thank YOU for taking on this new product with the joy and critique needed to make this game better for years to come for all us in thr fandom
Aw, thanks - I appreciate that 😀
No Brotherhood of Mutants representation?
I'm so sad.😢 Hey, Marvel, give me The X-Men Expansion for kindle format!!!😡😡😭😭
I’m keeping my ears and eyes open for you! I’ll post if I learn anything.

8:43 seconds before you even get to content. That is frustrating.
I appreciate the feedback, and I'm sorry you were frustrated.
I learned nothing.
Sorry to hear that, but I appreciate the feedback. Do you have any suggestions for how I might improve reviews for you in the future?
