According to the manual, a single red led flash is the low voltage cutoff.
So the battery voltage was just dipping too low.
And that can be caused by a too low discharge rate.

Whoever told you that the c rating was too low doesn’t know what they are talking about. The Vorteks is actually rated to run at a minimal of 50c. But on the other hand, there is no regulation against lipo manufactures to have accurate c ratings. So if you aren’t using high quality lipos, you can actually get a battery who’s c rating is lower than what’s stated. So it’s always best to go with a higher c rated battery. You can never go with too high of a c rating. The motor will only pull from the battery what the battery can deliver.
No one told me about c rating and we really don't know anything in actuality as most of us just go by what's experienced 👍💯😜
I had my recently bought Big Rock do this. Blinking red light. Had no throttle or reverse. Only steering. The throttle trim solved it. Kept adjusting until the light went off and had drive again.

Others have mentioned this as well, but I just wanted to add my own experience with this. One of the issues is that the stock 100a Spektrum ESC has a low voltage cutoff that is set way too high. And its not adjustable. There are rumors that a firmware update might be coming so it can be changed, but that hasnt happened as of writing this. But there are a few fixes. The easiest is lowering the pinion to something like a 15t. It will still be plenty fast, increase the run time ,and keep your temps down. Others have bought the BLX100 ESC from the previous 3s Arrma's, and used that as well since it has a higher LVC (increased runtime).
But what I did was buy a Spektrum 130A esc (SPMSE1130) ($75) from JRC. This has more power, an adjustable LVC, and is also 4s compatible. So its future proofed. I also went with the upgraded CVD slider set. (ARAC3974), a metal spur (ARA310945), and the Hot Racing motor mount (ATF18M02). I wont be running 4s anytime soon, but its pretty much ready for 4s if I decide to. For now I am running 3s 7600mah 120C hard case lipos. So there are solutions to the runtime issue, but its going to cost some money and a but of wrenching. I love upgrading and wrenching so its no big deal to me. That is half the fun of the hobby for me.
That’s exactly what I had to do to my vorteks. 100a esc on a 5000mah battery I was getting about 7mins of runtime. Swapped to a 120a spektrum esc and boom I get a full 20mins +\- of run time on the same batteries.
Max10 sct $63 all day eBay, much more programming options than any equivalent Arrma relabeled version.
I’ve always hated those body pins when they get tight like that lol. But I completely agree man after having the big rock when I saw this car I just wasn’t sold on it and never purchased one.
If someone is starting out, is big rock best choice?
That is a rough question to answer. I'm short yes cause it's fairly resilient. Nothing is perfect but as a starter RC and kinda beyond it's a good one for sure.

No I WAS having the thermal meltdown. Just running OTB stock . . . but that's all going to change.
My Typhon 3s kept doing that thermal shutdown using a power hobby 100C pack. Would do it every time. I threw my HRB 50C pack in and it never had an issue. Runs stronger than the 100C so I returned the 100C pack.

I upgraded my vorteks to a 4S system and love bashing it around. Glad I did since I don't have any issues I see others like yourself have with the car.

Arrma makes a few good vehicles as well as Traxxas. With Traxxas you may spend more but have possibly better support if that's important. The vehicle type depends on what you see yourself doing with it mostly. As your experience increases so might your desire to take more risk that exceeds the RCs capability. Just keep that in mind.

The vorteks is also a bit over geared(18T vs Big rocks 15T), and the motor is pulling a lot of amps to try and reach it's top speed.
I also tried to run my big rock with a 18T pinion, and the result was a lot higher amperage draw, for a small gain to top speed

Im running a 18t on my granite but im running a hobbywing xerun xr8 sct esc and 3660 hw motor
Had a lot of the same problems with hitting LVC/ voltage sag tripping the LVC super early even on 100c packs. Swapped to a 15t and to the same esc as the Big Rock and she’s much happier…….but I still prefer my Big Rock. It’s faster and jumps better. Tried putting better tyres on the vorteks and they just rub the body ffs. I think we’d have been better off with a Typhon
Take it off lipo setting. Mine works fine and never shut off again.
Now that you have had it for awhile would you choose the DB Pro or the Vorteks if you could only have 1. I have them both in my shopping cart for over a week and keep getting confused as I can't find anyone that has both and actually runs them, but I know you do. I don't know which one to drop the hammer on! I've watch almost all your vids and value your opinion, I almost bought a Senton, then saw your DB, then your Vorteks. I ruled out Senton as I could change DB Pro into a SCT if I wanted to from what I read on the forums.
EDIT: Saw your next video and you answered my question within 1min of the vid haha. Looks like DB Pro is the way to go
It is. Nothing is perfect but the DB Pro does a good job. As long as you treat the RC as it's intended😉💯

I love the pins. I just stretch them out so them pull out with almost no force. I bend them with my vice too. My hobbyshop doesnt have pins like i want they have skinny and weird alien ones
I bend mines at the ends to. Never thought about stretching them.
Looked like it was moving faster than 38mph on that first run to me.
Home depot,in the washer drawers..have this same length body pins,just a smidge thinner. They fit my big crock perfect. Buck fifty ..ish for 4!! Ul never have to drill out again!!

Change the tires for better traction and steering. It'd geared too high out the box. Changed to 4s spectrum system 130amp esc and 1900kv motor with same gearing for more torque and acceleration. Top end little faster. Just Changed shock and gave it all metal gears top to bottom. It's not a basher it's a stadium truck.

Yes my experience with spectrum batteries ended very poorly as the spectrum brand new pack that I bought failed within three uses 👍💯 but I could have just got it dud
I use different clips and they don’t get stuck
Temper temper….. It’s not a basher… it’s a stadium truck.. As long as you use a smart spectrum battery you can turn off your low voltage cut off and keep an eye on your battery level. Also it has AVC (active vehicle control) which draws power constantly if turned on. So, 1. Get a spektrum smart battery 2. Turn off LVC 3. Turn off AVC .. 4. Keep an eye on battery level.

The vorteks is way different than the granite and the big rock. I'm going to install big rock arms and turnbuckle with granite tires and see what that does for it. It just rides soooooo low. It's set up to be a track truck. Which is why it's labeled stadium truck. 🤪💯

It's a stadium truck competition with Traxxas Rustler... It's really good in the truck but you have to put the Typhon 3s arms on the vortex .... Good for track racing. Dirt track racing.... Arrmar vortex 3s way more better than the Traxxas Rustler 4x4.... You should modify it put the arms and see what's the different I did it already it's really cool...
Idk about u but ide much rather have a thermal shut down, then a burnt motor and esc. But I do wish they put even a heat sink. That was a very bad decision on ARRMA and Spectrum. But I like ur content, keep up with the great reviews and stay safe.

Yes 50c is garbage compared to 100c or better. On my Kiaju 50c packs will barely make it wheelie, but 100c will make it almost backflip. Max Amps and SMC are my go to packs. The ovonic ones from Amazon are pretty good for bashing.

@@rcguygarage I think he might be thinking about safety spektrum has built in so you dont accidentally launch your car the second you flip the on switch lol. If the esc senses detects throttle at startup, it puts kills the throttle and flashed the red light.
I am almost willing to bet that you have a bad cell in that battery. It looked like it lost power shortly after it took a little spill. lol
I've run several 50c packs on 3s Vorteks and Big Rock.... never had an issue at all. I even ran a 25c on the Big Rock a couple of times hah.
I still can't stop laughing! Dont worry about watching the $350 rc car.... just watch the wheel! lol. That was seriously a real life cartoon moment!

So I know this video is old now but Ive learned a few things that will really help with the Arrma Vorteks. So firstly...
It comes geared too high out of the box. The factory pinion is 18T and the Speed Demon 60 MPH Pinion is 20T. Thats too close for comfort, I wouldn't run the factory pinion off road, a 15-16T pinion would be more appropriate. Secondly...
These newer cars are getting more and more power hungry. A standard 5000mAH 50C LiPo wont really cut it anymore. I recommend 6000mAH 60C or better in this truck, although both of your batteries match that recommendation so you had some other issue with the 7600mAH pack. Finally...
The Spectrum 100A 3S ESC is okay, but its not the best, Spektrum does much better with their 6S ESCs. A very good upgrade would be the HobbyWing MAX 10 SCT Edition - A 4S 120A ESC with much better low-end power delivery and slightly better efficiency as well. Im gonna go ahead and get the full combo with 3200KV motor and then just sell the factory combo. Take Note...
This combo may have a 4S ESC but it is not actually designed for 4S. The 3200KV motor will exceed its maximum rated RPM on 4S. It may run for a while on 4S but it certainly won't last very long. Think of it as more of a "Big Block 3S Upgrade".
