This conversation reveals so much about tokenism in reality tv. It never occurred to me that multiple members of the cast could have expressed that they’re lgbt to producers but that it just isn’t mentioned - that’s crazy to me
I think I have bing watched all the episodes in last four days and it has been amazing to see all this amazing people just being open and proud. Thank you.
What an interesting episode! As a viewer, if you don't personally know anyone who's been on TV, you always ask yourself how much of Reality TV is real and how much is scripted, so I find it fascinating to hear people who've been there talk about the behind the scenes stuff openly! Also, I don't know if you take suggestions for guests, I'm just gonna drop it here: I would LOVE an episode with Zolita! 💖 I fell in love with her music and music videos lately, she's such incredible representation, especially for femme lesbians and her art is just so much fun. She writes the best sapphic love songs! 🙌🏳️🌈 Hope you're having a great day and I'm already looking forward to the next episode!
Everyone going on or interested in reality tv should watch UnReal. It’s fiction, but it basically explains everything they made Jasmine and the others do. The producers knew exactly what they were doing. Psychological manipulation at its finest. It will take a long time for those shows to improve, bc they are meant to be palatable for the Karen types in middle America. “Love Always” tried a bachelorette type thing with college aged men and women of different sexualities, but they kind of kept dating each other and not the bachelorette. Lol
Oh i just remembered, when she said she wanted to go home, so she got lit, yes she's the one who offered to choke Nick!!! Hahaha!! Iconic bachelor moment!
Level up the u-haul/ghost questionnaire, please. Curious to hear what are the most often ignored, reject-worthy red flags vs. winner white flags in a first date, after a first week or month of dating? Maybe ask the guest to give one example of each.
I love the perspective Jasmine gave about being on The Bachelor. Cause these very heteronormative shows will make you believe that most of these contestants are straight. I gues they appeal to 'middle america' so they keep it that way. The only parts of this show I warched was Rachel seasob of being The Bachelorette (as the 1st Black Bachelorette) Colton's season (which was messy) and in 2019 Bachelor in Paradise where they featured for the 1st time a same sex pairing with Demi and Kristian. After that I realuze this franchise is not for me and stopped watching. I guess the only straight dating show I watch now is Love is Blind. Luckily we have places to watch queers dating each other like the German dating show Princess Charming, Out for Love with Amber from Ambers Closet (eps on TH-cam)
I think the reason the show doesn't focus on bisexual relationships is because there is a smaller audience for it. Otherwise all films would focus on same sex relationships as much as or more than hetero relationships. It appears that every time writers try to focus more on same sex relationships being the core theme, the show looses ratings and it gets cancelled. Like the series Batwoman. Not enough women are into women enough to want to watch that. And there is no story theme for straight men to be interested in, so lots of people stopped watching. Same goes for Supergirl the series, etc. It's about the numbers. I wonder if Jasmine saw the film Gay Bros, because most women, gay or straight, didn't watch that for the same reason.
I think bachelor in paradise format would work best for a queer version...queer bachelor or bachelorette doesnt seem feesible, because the lead spends so little time with the contestants, the contestants would all just fall in love with each other lol
Honestly i always thought these shows were Cringe...Like 10 women drooling over a man and fighting with each other for his attention...Thats totally a male perspective and a Man's fantasy that reflects in the show....i feel pity for straight women...Patriarchy made them hate each other...💔💔💔
I typically love this podcast, but this episode felt like such a letdown. This podcast has continuously pushed that this is a space for lesbians & that only lesbians are involved & then I wake up & not only is the next guest not a lesbian but both her & the host are using bisexual & gay/lesbian interchangeably as if they mean the same thing? Then the host says that a bisexual woman is going on Bravo to represent lesbians? What? How? I don't understand how both a lesbian & a bi woman are both just casually contributing to the erasure of bi women in queer relationships & the meaning of the word 'lesbian'. Bi women or are still bi when they date women & lesbians don't date men or find them attractive. I can see that a man is attractive but I am not attracted to that man or any man. I don't understand why there's been a resent push to blur the lines btw bi & lesbian & why this only happens with women while gay & bi men never seem to face this issue as a community.
Well my opinion bi women are gay / lesbian because they are attracted to women, but they are also bi because they are attracted to the opposite sex, I don’t think it’s wrong to use those words interchangeably for a bi woman, what is wrong is biphobia

For those who havent seen the show “UnReal”, it does a lot to take you inside the perspective of how producers for show like the bachelor think 😅
