Just looked at this 6/15/24 to refresh our memories on how to play. It's been 12 years. Thank you / it all came back. I like when the fancy moves happen, moving tile around to use one piece ! We played for HOURS with the kids growing up over three decades and with my 96 year old father, the last months of his life. He was still sharp enough to play and win! I'm recovering from ankle surgery! This sure passed the time! I play sudoku, but this is more fun.
always been interested in learning after seeing my parents playing Rummikub lately, and the rules are pretty straightforward and you explained them quite well! Thanks for the video
I never understand these verbal explanations usually have to read instructions over n over again but yr explanation was perfectly simple n straightforward. Many thanks!!
According to the rules, we're laying down SETS of two types: GROUPS (same number, different color) and RUNS (same color, consecutive numbers). That makes it a little simpler to talk about it, too.
NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF RUMMIKUB BEFORE I SEEN IT AT MY AUNT'S CLEANING OUT HER APARTMENT. LOOKS LIKE FUN TO PLAY. WISH ME LUCK GETTING THE HANG OF IT TO PLAY, AND FINDING PEOPLE TO PLAY IT WITH! THANKS FOR POSTING THE AWESOME "HOW TO PLAY RUMMIKUB"!
Thanks for a straightforward instruction on how to play and on strategies that will come in handy. Friends mentioned the game today to me, and they’re going to bring it down next visit so I thought I best learn how to play it. Thanks again
My mother and grandmother are obsessed with this game! I first noticed one night as I was watching LSOH with my dad for the first time. They were intense, my focus kept switching between the movie and their game! Probably why I remembered “Mean Green Mother From Outer Space” the wrong way after a first watched it 😅
So what you lay down doesn't count, only what is left in your hand counts? Or do you count what you lay down and then subtract what's on your tray after someone rummikubs?
Can you explain how to end the game if one always has to draw and not use that piece? Also, how would the counting work? By rounds? What is mixing pieces with another player’s? Thanks for the effective video!
How many times can a player go when it's there turn? Can they literally use any / all tiles in their rack in different combinations on the playing field or, do they draw once from their rack per turn?
Is this a legal play? Ex: black8, red8,joker - place the black8 and the red8 somewhere on the table where they can fit, then take the joker to use with your hand
For clarification....when you play your first time total of 30 or more, you are finished for that turn. On the next play you can play on others, correct?
There is a part we disagree about in our family. We were playing that if you had say two 12's and a joker in a set, you had to name what color that joker would be. So if you had a blue and black 12 with the joker, you could specify that the replacement had to be red or yellow, butt it had to be that exact color. Can you clarify?
I hope this is still monitored. If on your first play you can lay down 30 points from your rack, can you then manipulate the board (including the initial sets that totaled 30) or can you not manipulate anything on that first turn at all?
@@joannstrickler3339you can take any tile from any opponents set as long as it remains legal ? You can add to it and split as well right? How do you keep track who how has what points?
In Okey you keep your tiles on the rack and don't show them to anybody. The tiles are stacked at the beginning and distributed according to a rule. The Joker tile is also different. The scoring is different too.
why do some kits come with a dice? the only reason I can think of is determining who goes first. If you didn't get a dice then highest number drawn from bag or table would get to go first I guess.
Imagine there are 4 players and the fourth player wins the round. The tile values of the each loser will be added together and written as minus points; lets say, first player has -5, second player -8 and third player - 9. It makes 22 points in total and this 22 points go to the winner of the round , that is the fourth player, as plus points. And this goes on until the end of the game and who has the highest plus points wins the game. But maybe all the players have minus points at the end of the game. In this case, who has the smallest minus points wins the game. If the first player has - 4, second player - 6, third player -1 and fourth player -2. In this case the winner is the third player because -1 is the closest to the plus direction... ^_^
I'm going to join a group so thought I'd better brush up on the rules. We never played it the right way apparently, everytime we used a tile we replaced it with one from the pool.....oh dear!
Can the Joker card be any color? For example can I use a black Joker card in a run of red cards or does it have to be played only in a run of black cards?
if you mean, picking a tile to determine the player to start, yes, the tiles return to the pool and mixed again. The players pick tiles until they pick tiles that is not a joker and different numbers, at least one of them with the highest value.
I guess this happens once in a million, because in that case almost all the tiles are on the table face-up and players should be able to get rid of the rest tiles in their hands ^_^
@@EK-ey6qd just for clarification... Example: If all red two's are on the table and I have a joker , I can put the joker down as a red two without using the two's that are on the table... to make my set... Is that correct?

So, can you play off another player's run or group? I remember doing that with my step-dad's game in the early 90's.
This was an excellent explanation. 👏 Thank you!
One of my childhood games.
Dawn from the Minimal Mom keeps mentioning this game so I had to find out what it is all about. Thank you for your video explaining it to me.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
So what you lay down doesn't count, only what is left in your hand counts? Or do you count what you lay down and then subtract what's on your tray after someone rummikubs?
The point of laying down is to reduce the amount of points you'll get at the end of a round.
What you lay down DOESN'T count in the final scoring.
Thanks a lot knew nothing about the game till this.
Great instructions! Thanks
You are easy to understand ~~~~
Thank You
Thank you very much for the fast instructions. I suspect we cannot do a run like 3-4-5-6 of different colors? Merci
Yes all numbers in all runs have to be the same color
can you play off runs or sets to get 30? even if you don't count the other players numbers?
yess
No
Nein, 30 minimum from your rack alone, you can play off others the next time around.
Can you explain how to end the game if one always has to draw and not use that piece? Also, how would the counting work? By rounds? What is mixing pieces with another player’s? Thanks for the effective video!
Just got mine today can't wait to play peace ✌️
How many times can a player go when it's there turn? Can they literally use any / all tiles in their rack in different combinations on the playing field or, do they draw once from their rack per turn?
Put down as many as you can. Every time it is your turn.
They must, of course, be within the rules of the game.
Great video, thanks! Do you think this is a good game with just 2 people?
During setup, you'll have to stack the tiles as well. (in stacks of 7)
Is that official? A lot of videos I just the tiles all spread out flat.
@@reostzombie13 The Rummikub Twist tiles are bent, which makes them easier to stack.
@@reostzombie13 No. Normally the tiles will be mixed face-down , no stacking. But of course, if the players prefer stacking, they can do it.

Reminds me of Okey, a Turkish board game.
How do you score the runs you swap tiles in, could imagine people swapping back and forth
Can I use the joker at the beginning?
No. The Joker can be used after the player's reached 30+ points and put these tiles on the table. ^_^
I hope this is still monitored. If on your first play you can lay down 30 points from your rack, can you then manipulate the board (including the initial sets that totaled 30) or can you not manipulate anything on that first turn at all?
Your first play is strictly for the 30 points. Then it goes to the next player. You can manipulate on your turn after
thank you so much i was comfused by the rules in the paper
Can you take a tile from the opponents set if it still remains complete and form a new run of your own?
If it is on the table, You can play it, it doesn't matter who laid it down in the beginning.
Rules say that it's based on most wins in a predetermined number of rounds with points being a tie breaker. Important distinction.
No initial meld = No manipulating ❌

Nobody earns any points from the sets or runs, only at the very end of the round are points calculated.
