ZANU Pf got Zimbabwe. And look at what has transpired since. Without doubt, the RLI, Rhodesian SAS, Selous Scouts, RAR, Grey's Scouts and the RhAF were warriors par excellence.
Excellent explanation of the operation & this from an ex Rhodie 👍. I had many friends on this Op, but being a Territorial soldier did not participate as was only Regular Army used
Glad that this video found it's way to a service member. That's awesome to hear that you actually knew people who were on this Op. Do you remember anything they told you from being part of the Op?

Great video. The captions in yellow at the bottom of the screen are from a Rhodie song sung to the tune of 'It's a long way to Tipperary'. I'm South African, and understand the mix of English and Afrikaans used, and it's quite funny! 'Ek sé, Ek sé, There's a time when my connections sits and takes a lekker brew...' Or: 'I say, I say, There's a time when my friends sit and drink a lovely beer!' We South Africans and Rhodesians used a lot of slang back in the 70's and 80's which you don't hear so much anymore.
That's pretty cool. When I was looking for footage I kept coming across this song. Funny to know what the slang actually means now. I love to hear old Rhodesian anecdotes that you just don't find in a history book
I had the honour of being invited to march with the RLI at Bedford in England in 2022 for the Remembrance day parade, of course I accepted and made the long drive from Scotland. I fitted in quite well as my beret was also green but the cap badge is worn over the right eye and not the left, those that know will know! I was also Airborne just like the RLI. What a great bunch of men and women to be around although I could not understand the words they used at times such as "lekker" etc, but I asked what the words meant. I was also given a tour of the RLI museum where we went to after the parade, that is definitely worth a visit. In the bar at their AGM I was astounded to hear that I had been proposed to become an honourary member of the RLI Association, there was a proposer and a seconder and I was voted in as a member, not a full one of course as I never served with the RLI, but what an honour to be respected by such a Regiment and body of men. Remember this, the men and women that I met went through hell, had their lives torn apart, without the men goodness knows what would have happened to the women but without the women the men would not have become the legends that they are. Thanks Vinny B and Frank W for your friendship over the years 1 CDO RLI, legends.
Rhodesia was a prosperous place worth fighting for. Zimbabwe is a disaster that the British Labour Party created and handed it over to thugs. RIP, Ian Smith.
With all due respect to the American narrator. The South Africans were there. I controlled South African air assets from Mariepskop Radar Station where South Africans played a critical role in the destruction of ZAPLA in this instance. A South African Puma helicopter was taken down during this operation and South Africans died assisting our Rhodesian cousins. It is simply untrue to maintain that South Africa did not assist at this time. I know that Pres. Vorster betrayed Ian Smith later however not in this instance and had South Africans been aware of the Vorster betrayal, Northern Transvaal farmers would have stormed Beit Bridge with diesel and petrol. The betrayal is worse for South Africans where at the Battle of Cuito Carnavale South Africa could have taken Luanda and set in train the destruction of communism in all of Southern Africa. We were all betrayed in Southern Africa to the utter detriment of the entire sub - continent.
Check out operation "Green Sea", assault in conkray. Very good vídeo, the Rhodesians were something else, fought like lions. Very much respect from a Portuguese
Good video. Decent explanation of the op. I don't know if I'd use the word 'craziest' to describe Op Dingo. I suppose it's shorter than 'brilliantly executed'. Same for Op Eland (Nyadzonya raid) the previous year. Brilliant!
Jack Malloch dropped the fuel drums for the helicopter from a DC7 not a DC8. The book, Jack Malloch: Legend of the Skies, has some details of his part in the operation.
Expecting people who were never able to independently conceptualize the wheel to administer a high functioning modern society was and is, a pipe dream. We are not all built "the same". Diversity is not a strength. Quite the opposite.

Ubique is correct. Right up until a few years ago the OED did not use the 'modern' secondary definition. Yes language 'evolves' over time. Unfortunately that usually means it gets 'dumbed down' by misuse. The incorrect usage of 'decimate' serves no purpose. If one wants to say 'destroy' then just say destroy. SAAF Puma 164.
Incorrect. There were no Pumas deployed on Op Dingo. You are referring to the loss of Puma 164 on Operation Uric in Sept '79.
Vorster withdrew the SAP in 1976. However PW Botha deployed the SADF after he took over from Vorster.
