- A scintillating display by Manchester United saw them tear Roma apart to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Michael Carrick curled in United's opener and Alan Smith fired home before Wayne Rooney added their third of the night, finishing off a superb move.
Cristiano Ronaldo fired into the bottom corner and slid home a Ryan Giggs cross before Carrick smashed home a sixth.
Roma replied through Daniele De Rossi before Patrice Evra's low shot rounded off United's amazing 8-3 aggregate win.

An attempt every 2-3 mins, now this is the united i learned to love.
🎉💯
We will return to such heights yet again, we have seen much worse as a club.
De Rossi with one of the most underappreciated goals of all time
Yes, this goals was special. The fact that the goal didn't help Roma get any point, made it difficult to popularize it
I'm a man u fan de rossi is top class!
Word
Word bro
De Rossi & Totti the 2 most underrated players ever. Both could have won much more than they did but were too loyal too Roma. Absolute legends ❤
Sorry to sound mawkish and maudlin, but this was the game that was played the night before my Dad’s funeral with *this* commentary. Obviously watched it at home, but my Dad was a lifelong UNITED supporter who bought me up the same way. The odd moment was when my brother in law (who has no interest in football) watched us tear Roma to shreds and just said…”This isn’t Normal, is it?” Always had this little superstition that it was for my Dad.
A bittersweet memory, but thank you for it.
Sorry bro for the memories it brought to you,but enjoy the game
May your father rest in peace, my friend...
Carrick such an underappreciated player
True, most of ther time, Sir Alex Ferguson played him only on a rainy day
That why we're all call him Sir Alex Ferguson🤯👏
He was a true sir
Ahhh, the good old days of a 4-4-2 and shooting from outside the box 💪 The standard in the ‘top flight’ leagues has dropped massively in the last 10 years. These days, not losing is more important than winning 😕
🤣🤣🤣
Sure. Comeback is long gone thing
I was at Old Trafford for this game wat a game it was and the atmosphere was superb
What a beautiful time to be alive!
I wasn’t
So superb Ferguson has to get you to make noise? Manchester United crowds like most yeams crowds are terrible! Only shout when you y score
Carrick was a fine player.
He did everything simple
Carrick was absolutely world class.
I remember not rating Carrick when we signed him from Spurs, but this was the game that made me realize how good he actually is. Underrated legend of the club..
He was never rated, even by Fergie himself 🤣
I miss this team
Great team under great manager
Watched this game live in a pub in Bremen. Quite a few Roma fans in as well. At the end of the game they applauded along with the rest of us
That's the love of football
I was at this game. The headache from the noise after the 5th goal was pretty bad. What a night!
@MrGreenEstateAgents
Was it the most entertaining game under sir Alex, or my title wasn't worth it 😅
When i watch the these lads playing with pride and passion, its breaks my heart knowing the shower of shit that turning out for my beloved MUFC now is a million miles from ever playing football like these lads did wekk in week out 😢
The hope is that one day, the team will be back
The way Ronaldo scored his second goal here. Rashford, martial and co are never found in such positions when united needs a goal.
Very true 😂
I don't even remember Alan Smith, what happened to him?
I watched Man Uniteds success under Sir Alex Ferguson throughout my whole childhood. Unfortunately not a Man U fan, but I adored watching that team. I doubt remember Smith though. 🤔
He was somewhere in the Ferguson's success journey
I was there. There was just an atmosphere that night that I have not really felt at Old Trafford since. We knew we were winning and the noise from about 15 minutes before kick off was amazing. Great night
That's awesome!
Great night, was there as well... sensational times.... was at the away leg as well
Not shown here, but Alan Smith was the game changer. I have never seen a player defend from the front like that. He was like an animal! Roma didn't know what to do and fell apart.
It's true, he was aggressive. Always putting opponents on toes
I was in the Stretford End that night. Very lucky really, never been a season ticket holder and always relied on mates spare tickets. Saw a lot more European football than Premier League. Can’t remember who I got the ticket off that night, but glad that I did.
Ooh, very good memories for sure
When we were Kings. We'll be back, GGMU
The restoration time is very near
we're still kings since some of our competitors have not won premier league and champions league since 2004
That shirt is top 5 all time.
AIG, the most successful shirt of Manchester United
SHARP entered the chat
2006-07 Ronaldo is underrated but he was a rising devil that year.
The first goal from Carrick was one of the most beautiful volley goal I've ever seen
Simple and straightforward
Apart from, it wasn't a volley.
The keeper looked like he let it in tbh
That was not a volley😂😂
That was not a volley, bro....
First time Ive seen this in 17 years. I remember watching this at the pub doing cartwheels every 6 minutes! You'll never beat those Champions league nights on itv, they were the best ❤
Welcome, great memories there
David Pleat was a great co-commentator.
You may think he watched the game before and wrote the script
“ MAGICAL MANCHESTER UNITED “ i think we’re not gonna hear those words ever again 😏
It's been long now
Sir alex ferguson's investment in british players such as Rooney, rio ferdinand and carick, plus faith in british academy talent such as Fletcher and welbeck is a credit to him.
Especially at a time when many teams were bringing mediocre foreign talent and stifling the england team.
Great analysis
I was there what a night
What a beautiful memories. This win was historical
Some legendary players, but that kit is my favourite thing on the pitch.
On this night I lost the fear of Italian teams that I'd akways harboured whenever we were drawn against them. Absolutely tore them to shreds.
Even though they missed two key players, I believe they couldn't have done much with them.
Then we lost to an Italian team in the semis
We played against a bunch of genius . Nobody could be compared to Kaka and Seedorf at that time
Francesco Totti said before the game that he did not like the way the English play football. Those words came back to haunt him.
He celebrated early 🤣
The 2 goal by carrick and 1 by derossi was he best 3 goal but the first 1 by carrick is a beauty
True, it left a legendary goalkeeper unaware
The best goal of the whole game was Roma's. If that was the winning goal in a UCL final, it would be considered one of greatest ever scored. On a 7 -1 thrashing, it's completely forgotten.
Yes, the look away goal by De Rossi was phenomenal
If only the current squad were this good
The team would obviously be domination in Europe
I initially wanted Utd to sign Doni but after this match, I never wanted him again.... Lol 😅
He could continue the legacy of Barthez
Rooney was a beast this period
He always carried United on his shoulders
I was there in the Stretford End, the whole stand was bouncing
Ooh, wow! Nice memories there
One of the best matches in history
Very true
Ronaldinho - No look pass
De Rossi - No look strike
No one talks about that goal but it was a beautiful one.
Keep it up
Thank you
Hmm, i would say 90's era team hade more entertaining matches if you judge by "best". But this surely was super nice one aswell for the 20's era team ! :)
Those AIG years......what a great time....this must have been Spring 2007....Solskjaer last season.
True, he was playing as a legend and an elder
When Euro football was on normal TV!!
🤣🤣
The current United Squad seriously lacks the talent and caliber of players like Ryan Giggs.
I agree 💯
I was there. It was joyous.
Ooh, wow, what a memory
Great game but jesus, the editing on video is making me nauseous. flicking from camera angle to camera angle several times in the same move. Just let it flow...
I will redo it this weekend.
Thank you for the feedback
Back when we were spoilt rotten supporting United 😂 i miss those days, still remember this game and Roma were not as bad as this made them look
Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end😢
Have you realised that nothing lasts forever
Attacking Master class
Giggs motivating teammates with magic 4 assists
Carrick be scoring some bangers ng
Lucky bangers there by Carrick
I was there!
Ooh, wow! That's nice
I wasn’t there but I’m watching that game again 😂🥰❤️🇦🇺
superb
Sir Alex was a true mentor
Ronaldo hunger for goal as a winger is top notch
Very true, his work rate was amazing
Is there a full match?
Yes, it's not possible to post it on youtube
Miss those days..
We hope they come back
Giggs was not human.
Have you watched my latest upload, it's entirely about Giggs. 15 minutes of magic
Semi v Arsenal was better, had everything. Best game I've ever been too. That includes 99 final
Beautiful memories
One of the best results he’s in Fergie’s era but United vs Arsenal 8-2 was the most entertaining game, beating Blackburn 7-1 was just as close!
Really?
good old times
Very nice memories
No mention of Mancini at all; what utd can achieve when they’re tails and confidence are up…. A far cry from today’s assembly 😊
The current team is coming up slowly, the bright is future
❤❤❤❤❤
Fantastic
Remember roman fans kicking off in Manchester this was the response
When the Champions League was good.
Beautiful memories, we hope they come again in future
Alan smith was never a goalscorer really and he’s stats prove it, he was just an aggressive mentality on the pitch who had high-pressing style and hard tackling player and high work rate
if they had a goalscorer they would have scored even more in this game.
Benched Ole Gunnar deliberately, because he played shit in first leg
Carrick scored a screamer
Yes, two guess work screamers. He never scored screamers any other day before or after this
Funny my memory of this game is that we had 7 chances and scored 7 times, but that could’ve been 14!
Doni was there as a monument 🤣
My happiest memory watching a live United game about from the tv it was magical, I was only 14 I remember the Roma police beating up United fans from the first leg for no reason and it seems like this was revenge. Wonder why we lost to AC Milan in the next leg we could have won the UCL
Surely, coz the 3-2 win to 3-0 loss
Liverpool wasn't there strongly in the finals. It would have been back to back
most entertaining was vs Arsenal in PL, don't remember all details but was in the 2000's, 7:1 or 8:2 or something like that
I got that on this channel as well. Check it out
Ashley young and Rooney madness on that day.
What year was this,I remember watching it with my dad on telly
It was March 2007.
Manchester were defeated by Milan on the following stage.
Totti an Italian great
He was way above other Roma teammates
Can't understand why Carrick wasn't picked to play for England
He couldn't even compete with Barry and Milner, leave alone Lampard and Gerrard
@bestfc100 I think Carrick was underrated he only scored 34 goals for utd but he was a good solid MF
Giggs miles offside on the 3rd goal 😂
No, he wasn't 🤣
Is Ronaldo the only player from this tie that is still playing?
Probably 💯
He was dedicated in his diet, training, not being a piss head, or coke or smokes.
He was also very young when this match took place. Who else do you think should still be playing? Rooney?@@jaywalkercrew4446
Yep
I think Smith could be somewhere,I seen a United podcast few months ago with Smith+still playing I think(could be wrong)
If this was the current team they'd find a way to fluff every chance up lol lol
🤣🤣🤣
I agree
If you have players like these you don't need defensive because your attackers will always score more goals from the opponent
True, everyone knows this except Pochetino
Guessing you haven’t watched many utd games under Sir Alex
I have, this is one of them
@@bestfc100 you said the most not one of the most 👍
🤣🤣✍️
@@bestfc100 so which is it? Is it the most or one of the most?
Roma defenders graduated from Harry Maguire School of excellent defending.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hilarious
Chivu and Mexes were great defenders to be fair to them!
@@jamiestewart48 And Harry a defensive maestro too!
They just had a bad night
oh great we're gonna have all the goals from weird camera angles (because that makes it more exciting?)
I was still learning how to edit. I'm reposting it today, a well edited version.
Thank you
@@bestfc100 cool :)
Smith was class
His form was fluctuating
I felt for Roma, they didn't do a lot wrong.
Missing Perotta made them look so loose
The editing on this is just awful. Leave the replay camera angles until after the goal has been scored.
Which specific goal are you referring to
2+1 how much it is cost
Pardon
The frustrating thing about his, after watching the dismal stuff we've played for the last decade, is how simple it can be.
The most obvious thing about the Fergie years was the RUNNING. Everyone running for each other, all the time. Nothing complicated, just players running to make themselves available for each other. 1 & 2 touch because you knew your team mate would be there. Rasmus would score 40 a season in that team.
Watching Rashford, Martial, Maguire & Co. strolling around is so depressing. It's simple..... keep fking running for each other. That's the minimum I ask.
Antony has introduced a very alien way of football in this team, he has confused Rashford and Martial completely
The players we have bought aren’t utd standard of old… the culture and team spirt isn’t UTD standard either… can see ten hagg trying to install more discipline … players been getting away with shit for too long … the wages they get now has massive influence on their professionalism … they are overpaid for not winnning… should be on performance based contracts
i remember this game and then playing the uefa champions league video game xD epic times
😂🙌
Why was this goalkeeper always off his line?
Nobody knows 🤣
Great match but not there most entertaining games
Ooh, very good if there was one that entertained
Who edited this absolute nonsense? Go from 1-0 at 11 mins to 0-0 at 2 mins..then to 3-0 at 18 mins before jumping back to 2-0 at 17 mins.. learn to count before starting TH-cam is my suggestion.
The game is flowing, who told you to look at the scoreboard?
Focus on players and ball
Roma Biscuit...AKA Rombeng
🤣
This was the reason why I was supporting United because they didn't care to much about defense it was all about attacking and humiliating the opponent pure not like today
The care so much about protecting Onana
Way too many camera angle changes. Asinine editing. Completely ruins what should be a great video.
Noted!
Giggs destroyed them!
Yes 4 assists, one game
Lousy editing. Why can't you just show every goal from one angle? Why do you have to change the angle just as each player is about to shoot?
Thank you very much for the complain. Atleast you have made the point elaborate and clear. I have hard other people complain but they didnt point out exactly where the problem was.
Thank you and I promise to correct this in my future edits
How many assists did Giggs grab in this game?
4 assists
4 assists
It is not that MU was that good. It was a poor tactic by Spalletti. We let way too much space to MU players. Milan beat this MU easily after this match.
Man United won against Milan in their match that followed 3-2.
They lost on the second leg 3-0
vedafon
8-2 against Arsenal was his best not this!!!
Ooh, really?
Yeah for sure, the rivalry with Wenger and watching him get sent off to then stand in the stands with the UTD fans as we beat them 8-2 was just the best
@@lukesullivan1804Just watched the 8-2 game before this one 👍
Haha do you agree mate
😅😅😅
This has to be the worst video edit I have seen.
Funny
It was a great performance, but a one sided game. Watch the 3-3 draw with Barcelona from 1999 if you want to see an entertaining match that was competitive and dramatic.
There is no HD version with English commentary for that match
THAT RIGHT THERE THE UTD LINE UP THATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SIR ALEX AND TEN HAAG THAT UTD TEAM WAS AWESOME AND IT WASN'T EVEN THEIR BEST ONE IM A FOREST SUPPORTER OF MANY YEARS BUT I'M ALSO A FOLLOWER OF FOOTBALL ROUND THE WORLD IT TOOK SIR ALEX A FEW YEARS TO GET UTD TOGETHER HE WAS GIVEN TIME THAT IS WHAT MANAGERS NEED NOW FUCK INSTANT SUCCESS THATS THE STUFF OF FAIRY TALES NO POINT SACKING EVERY DUDE THAT COMES THROUGH THE DOOR REMEMBER IF ALEX FERGUSON HAD BEEN SACKED AFTER SAY 3 SEASONS WHERE WOULD UTD HAVE BEEN?! I DOUBT VERY MUCH WHETHER THEY WOULDVE HAD EVEN QUARTER OF THE SUCCESS THEY DID PATIENCE IS DEFINITELY A VIRTUE WHERE FOOTBALL IS CONCERNED THIS UTD TEAM WAS SUBLIME ♥️🏐🥅⚽
Football is sweet, if we vount 20 years from now, how many owners will be having that team
Thank you very much for the review. Great legendary memories there
