- How to make a beautiful classic style flower arrangement with a modern method.
Ingredients - large headed roses, gerbera, lisianthus , ivy foliage, eucalyptus, fatsia leaves and limonium as a filler.
Flowers are beautiful in themselves and many of the classic styles of flower design are designed to show of high value blooms to their best advantage. In today’s video we do just that to showcase these fabulous large headed roses and the gerbera - two special flowers with a bit of presence. And in this type of design we can enjoy them en-mass and together. The foliage just creates the base and the framework for the flowers to sit within.
There are lots of ways to make this type of design but if they can be placed direct into water they will preform better - and better than in foam. So a cage of wire or even scrunched up wire will support the flowers but still let them be direct into the water.
If you have enjoyed this video, firstly thank you, then maybe you would like to watch this design from a few years ago? This shows how chicken wire will also do a great job with flowers!

Beautfifully designed, John! The wire brick is increasingly useful it seems and, as you say, provides a better water source. I love this design as it is traditional but relaxed, and not at all "stiff". Thank you for this one. I like the fact that you sourced your container from the kitchen! For many years in doing church flowers, I used 13x9 inch glass baking dishes for altar displays. They worked beautifully! Hope you have a great weekend, Friend!
Thank you 😀 Yes, This design came together very nicely - and the kitchen is a great place for containers - I like your suggestion for altar designs, and these have a little bit of weight to them that is a good anchor
Nothing wrong with traditional designs, though the very stiff versions are really my style 😀 hope you have a great weekend!
Beautiful arrangement and love the colours, the bowl is gorgeous, Denby Ode if I'm not mistaken 😊 I really like the wire cage and will look for a link to have a try at making one
🤩 thank you! Yes, the bowl is very nice - and very useful!
Wow, those roses and gerbera were meant to be seen together! Incredible pairing, just lovely!
That’s true - they are perfect together! 😊
Wow, that wire mechanic really seems to work well, John! Love that everything gets right straight into water, should last so much longer. Thanks for sharing 🥰
Yes, and direct into water is really the best for flowers. The uniformity of the wire structure really helps hold the stems in a consistent way. 😀
Love this so much
🌼🌼🌼 Thank you!

Just gorgeous rose and beautifully arranged.
Thank you 🤩
Very nice indeed.
😊 Thank you 🌼
Relaxed yes, and so relaxing to watch emerge! The end result is gorgeous. I liked it best when you added the eucalyptus--not sure why, maybe because it lightened it? Maybe the round-leafed texture?
Thank you Lynne! 😀 I think you are right about the eucalyptus as it gives a contrast with colour maybe?
Hope you are having a good weekend! 😀👋
So happy to you and your designs again🌻

Such a delightfully full arrangement without foam
Hey John! Great video - I love that ivy!!! I'm going to have to try your oasis brick. I normally use a Kenzan with chicken wire taped over the container. From your number #1fan in Austin Tx - 🙂
Hello! 👋 hope you are well?
Thank you for watching 👀
Work has been CRAZY BUSY since Philly-I have 2 weddings today and then will slow down for a week or so... Take Care@@FlowerJoos
@@TriciaWon and you! Hope the weddings went well. Take care ❤️🌼
Beautiful
What I would like is being able to move a stem without the oasis breaking down. But you have to be ok with a little movement or stems not going exactly where you want them.
Gorgeous arrangement!
Thank you 😀 yes, it’s best to get the placement right first time, and that just comes from practice. Repeated moving of stems will weaken foam - this frame works well as the squares are not too big so stem movement isn’t so much.
Aye muy bueno rosas!
Wow that looks beautiful.Thanks John.
Thank you 🤩
I like this very much. Thank you. Gorgeous roses 💐🌹
Thank you! 😊
Very lovely.
Love everything colours design beautiful 😊
Thank you so much 😊🌼🌼🌼
So beautiful. Thanks
Thank you 😀
This is such a lovely arrangement John. The mechanics work so well. The result is just as good as using oasis. I really want to make a wire brick now! Have you used plastic coated chicken wire?
Thank you so much 😊 yes, the wire is plastic coated which is better for the flowers as they won’t get damaged or scratched - and it was easier to work with as well 😀
Lovely bright design, do you add flower food to the water in the can?
Thank you 😊Yes that is a good point - adding flower food will help keep the water clean and the flowers In the best condition
