I'm pretty sure I couldn't do 4 months of darkness. I live in the North East of the US, and get slightly down when we turn our clocks back, and it's dark at 4:30. But one year, I tracked the sunrise/sunset times for a year, and that actually helped my mindset. For every day after December 21, when I start to see the sun 'come back' it helps me.
    Enjoy your polar nights. 😀

YT recommended one of your videos last Autumn, and your enthusiasm living in the north pole gave me so much motivation to enjoy and not dread the coming winter. I was getting a bit sad this year when I realised summer was coming to an end and winter is coming again, but I remembered if Cecelia can do it in Svalbard, so can I! Good winter boots like doc martens ..you can get better and cheaper alternatives but those type of boots !
Pick up thermal tops and socks in Primark ! And a good winter coat, thats waterproof and windproof and that's long enough to come down past your bum ,is essential to keeping warm ,Brands like super dry or regatta are great for the type of climate in the UK and Ireland.
M&M direct is a great website for boots ,coats and jackets for a really good price too😁👌
Cosy PJ's and thick Cosy blankets for when you come home and warm slippers !

@@itsalwaysteatime3803 Thank you for the kind advice! My main issue with winter isn't actually the weather because I sweat easily and do not like being hot. But when the sun rises at 10am and it's pitch black by 4pm, I generally just feel depressed and demotivated wanting to sleep forever. It's so nice to hear your excitement about "fall" since I live in the north of Sweden the Winters months have been hard for me but you are an inspiration . This year I will embrace the darkness and enjoy cosy sweaters, candles and hotdog grill in the snow at weekends. Thank you. 😁❄

Very interesting vid, I am always interested to see what day to day life is like where you live, even the mundane errands. Glad to hear that your Vitamin D levels are excellent and that you are prepping for the Polar Nights. It’s always good to do a blood panel and wellness check every year if you can. The “white coat hypertension” that Christoffer experienced is not uncommon - my husband is the same, he doesn’t feel comfortable in hospital situations. Check his BP when he is outside of hospital and it’s perfect! Wonderful to hear he is ok after doing the home monitoring. Much love to you all from CA, USA❤

16:42 I would advise that you buy a daily pill dispenser to keep track of your daily vitamin D use. That way if you miss a day, you'll know to take it the next day along with that day's dose. Also, you talk about sun but for the most part the only skin that sees the sun is your face and head. It's not like the rest of your body is in the sun. For the most part, everyone living above 37 degrees north . latitude are at a greater risk for vitamin D deficiency.

I'm so jealous hearing how accessible the heathcare is. In MN is the U.S., with my healthcare plan, it costs a minimum of $60 to go to the Dr. And to get my vitamin D tested is an extra cost (about $20).
Glad to hear you all are in good health!

I think it is very responsible checking your vitamin levels. This has inspired me to go have my levels checked. I don't live where we have a polar night, but I do live in an area that has longer nights in winter. I hope you have a wonderful week!

Cecilia, I set an alarm on my phone to go off every single day at a certain time to remind me of a medication that I have to take daily. It never lets me forget! Wonderful that your Vit. D is so good going into the polar night. Hope your little package from me arrives soon! It's been weeks and weeks!

I really enjoy your videos! My maternal grandmother was born in Oslo way back in 1888 and came to America in 1912. I have 3rd cousins living near Lillehammer that I've been in touch with the last few years, and hope to visit them in the next year or two. Watching your videos gives me a glimpse of what Nordic life is like! I'd love to visit Svalbard during my trip, probably during the summer, just to experience a true polar day...the furthest North I've traveled during the solstice is Elgin, Scotland, where it was "dusk" at about 2 am, with the sun rising again around 4 am...I would think that it is much brighter than that in Svalbard during the solstice...

I like to call this "Peace of Mind" testing. Gives you the ability to just be at peace with where you are at generally. My vitamin D is always low because, live in Norway, but because I do not go out in the sun because I cannot temp regulate well. I wonder how the sun vs dark affects the dogs? Hmmm.

If I recall correctly you didn’t visit Portugal last winter? I think making sure to spend a week or ten days there in the middle of the Polar night would really help with winter health. Pills can help but not really replace the benefit you get from actual sunshine!

Michelle Reed is a TH-camr in Texas who has chronicled her experience of going off of hormonal birth control and dealing with acne. It's taking her a long time to have regular periods again. I've followed you for several years & don't recall you mentioning the use of light boxes as I see mentioned in another comment. SAD may very well be an evolutionary adaption for humans to slow down so they would need less food during a period it was less available.

  • @gabriellagirardi4741

Vitamin D is so important for you who live in these latitudes and luckily you have a good rate of this important vitamin to face a long and dark winter. Also sun lamps might be useful but I think that your holidays in Portugal and sun bathes have contributed to increase the level of vitamin D. The sun is really a jewel. Thank you very much for this beautiful video.

This is so so interesting! I love watching the extreme changes in Svalbard, it makes me feel more connected to the seasons here in Texas :). We’re finally reaching some Autum weather this week (coldest 35F and warmest 85F 😂). I bought a pumpkin at HEB and drank some peppermint tea before bed 🎃.
