      I have tried them. Dogfight is the filler game for me, fun and ..mindgamey. Caesar! the mini "wargame". Blitzkrig most strategic.

    I love how you talk through your moves as you play and explain the effects of each turn. It helps me to learn the games easier rather than just reading through a rule book and trying to figure it all out. Thank you so much! Cant wait to play these 3! 😊

    Blitzkrieg is still my favorite. Just the idea of distilling WW2 into such a small box is great. Especially when I put the box next to A&A anniversary edition.

      @andreyvelkov3224 - I'm not completely sure why, but from what I've seen Blitzkrieg! looks like it would be my pick out of the 3 games also. Thanks to Naveen and Monique for the clear and comprehensive explanations and playthroughs.

    Yay!! I’ve been waiting for this video. Love when you guys do a deep dive into something. I found out about Paolo Mori because I wanted to find a light but thinky game for my 6yo WW2 fan. Blitzkrieg! is fun and quick to set up. We also like the Nippon expansion with Godzilla. I’d really like to try to both Dogfight! and Caesar! - the former might get to the table sooner because my kid also likes airplanes. 😁

    24:05 The regular (non-purple) planes should have 6 tokens at the beginning of each round. See pg 4 and 11 in the rules. So Monique was playing at a bit of a disadvantage… and still won by a landslide! :D

    At 16:31 I think Naveen could have placed 2 markers and at 46:56 you shifted the marker in the wrong way I think. Or am I missing some of the rules, please explain. I love the dynamic between you two as a couple.

  • @milanstevic8424

    Blitzkrieg is still a beautiful design!
    You can really see the WW2 unfolding even though it's such a tiny abstract game.
    There is vying for the Africa early on, Pearl Harbor, Gen. Montgomery, Adm. Nimitz, and I can see Stalingrad even though it didn't quite happen.
    Pretty neat.
    Ceasar! is clever with the way it plays out but oh boy it hurts my brain (I'd prefer the one you showcased earlier in a Watch it Played video, called The King is Dead, that's also a very neat design). Dogfight is too bland for my taste.

  • @andrewstewart7078
    @andrewstewart7078 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love Caesar!, but sometimes it can be a little stressful! I like Blitzkrieg! too, but Caesar is just that little bit more immediate and thoughtful somehow. Not played Dogfight! yet, but it looks quite interesting!

    I have a question. At about 19:00, Naveen put many tokens on the board but didn’t put one under is senate token. Can you explain again how this senate token works, cause i’m pretty sure I didn’t understand its meaning correctly :)) Thanks!
    Great playthroughs, always a pleasure to watch ☺️

    Blitzkrieg and Caesar both looked like a lot of replayable fun. Anyone that has played both, do you know which one feels like it has more long term replays? Caesar's expansions and random starting tokens or Blitzkrieg and it's second board? Thanks for the great playthrough!

    Hi! Love you guys' videos and me and game group love many of the games you guys play and love as well. And although this question is not related at all to the video (lol) we were wondering, out of all the variety of games you play, we want to know what's the appeal of Spirit Island for you guys? We tried it several times and simply couldn't get into it :( Many people love this game as well, and we just wanted to know what it is about Spirit Island that tops everyone's list or more specifically, for you guys? Thanks, and keep up the great work.

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Great question! We both enjoy coop games and I (Monique) love asymmetry, so it was a perfect blend between the two. It's hard to find coop games that require players to work independently, and this one absolutely does because each player needs to formulate their own strategies based off of their spirit. We also love finding combos with the different cards and find the game to be quite challenging, but we definitely acknowledge that the game is not gonna be for everyone. What was it about the game that made it difficult to get into? Thank you for your kind words btw!

    • @goodgrlgnbad24
      @goodgrlgnbad24 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think on our first play we didn't really understand the slow/fast actions, which threw us off a bit. But later we saw why you would need that as far as strategy. Another person in the group said that they didn't like the asymmetry when pushing and pulling. And because of the layout found it difficult to grasp. We just played a game called - "Deliverance" and you have attacks that use range, but because that range is clearly defined, we found it easier to understand. The game to us seemed unnecessarily complex, and its the only one we really have trouble with. We love Feast for Odin, Nemesis, KanbanEV, Terraforming Mars, and lots more. Maybe this is one we just can't get into. Also, I think a big part of it for is was also the pieces. We couldn't really enjoy the theme of the game because the pieces were so mundane. So just wanted to know how others viewed it. It makes so many groups' top list. @@BeforeYouPlay

    Just got this playing first game tonight. Love your video play throughs. One question @58.23 why could Monique not place a token on the Africa & Middle East to get the 5 points? I'm probably just missing something.

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, great question! If I (Monique) placed a token there, it would have closed out the campaign (row) and after moving the marker the # of spaces of the token placed, the player who's side the battle marker is on will get the 5 points. The marker was already 4 spaces toward Naveen's side and I didn't have a token strong enough to bring the marker over to my side. I hope that makes sense!

    I couldn't see the logic of the spears token in Caesar. now I kinda get it, but it seems very game-state specific. after all, even if you flip a token, you will have a control marker "out", making you one step closer to the end.

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's game-state specific but can be very powerful when the time is right. It's primarily for cutting off the chaining and decreasing your opponent's power in a province at critical moments.

    Well, out of this three I think I favor Blitzkrieg, then Caesar and then Dogfight. While I don't play much of first two and this is first time I've seen Dogfight... But Blitzkrieg is truly feel like a good, solid game "shrink down" to 20 minutes. It has theme, its more fun and less "think-y" then Caesar, atleast to me. And don't get me wrong, Caesar is good too, but to me its just a little bit too "serious" in case of gameplay, more tense, and while it actualy could be a plus, to me its putting it slighly behind...
    But Dogfight... IDK, maybe this was a "plane" problem or scenario or what, again, you said that previous games has more shooting then there... but atleast in this playthrough I sadly get pretty dissapointed. Too much "zero-sum", simultanious turns could be fun, but its just feels like... IDK, dumb-down Colt Express or Robo-rally. But when you just wander around in circles doing essencialy nothing. I love Blitzkrieg and Caesar because they are... fun, IDK. You gets bonuses, bam, extra token, bam, you damage your opponent, you closed theatre, connected provinces. Even while they are short game - you still has progression through them, your previous actions enhance your later ones. But here... Even if there was more damage done - I dount that it would feel better. Because its essencialy just points, in Robo-Rally, for example, while you damaging someone you actively disrupt their game or, maybe, sometimes even help them. Its fun. But here its just VP, disquisted as a damage... So, again, IDK. And idea that you use all your tokens (or not? Because I think I saw that Monique must had some "6" token or what?) is not my cup of tea either, because while game lack "fun" part of system, it has, to me, "unfun" one when you need to figure out what tokens opponent have and, if you really intended to use all 15 tokens, you could be PRETTY sure about what they have... And to me its just the worse. I would liked if they gave you 20 tokens atleast and use 15, so there are atleast more room for variance and you could just go "IDK if they get all their 5th, so I just not gonna worry about counting and AP-ing it out".
    So... IDK. While playthrough itself is good and its a nice video and a cool format, sadly Dogfight was VERY underwhelming to me

    Does blitzkrieg get confusing?

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blitzkrieg is not confusing because you only have the top un-closed row of each theater to place your tokens into, but it is strategically difficult!

    Great video! Loved to see the three games played back to back.
    I have Blitzkrieg and really like it. I think I would enjoy Caesar, maybe even more but I really can’t justify getting a second fairly similar game. Space, time, money etc 😅
    I did play a prototype of Dogfight at Spiel last year. A bit too close to Rock paper scissors to me.

    So I'm thinking Monique cheated the dogfight. She had 2 of the #5 tokens and was only supposed to have 1 by the look of her plane card. I may be incorrect though. Still Great Stuff, & I understand these games now

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh the plane card shows how many tokens there are at the top of each value column. So for Monique, she has 2 value 5 planes, but only one of them has a damage counter on it (of value 2). I hope this helps!
