Oh wow. I've never heard this before. Such an elegant arrangement and Billy's voice conveys a level of sorrow that this song has always deserved. 🤘🧙♂🤘
One of my favorite songs of all time and I love the way Billy covers it here. So nicely done, and very much in the spirit of the Dead; i.e., make it your own.🙏🏽😊
@@magnolia972 It's a song written by GD's Phil Lesh, lyrics by Robert Hunter. It;s about a young man comforting his dying Father--he wrote it for Lesh who's Dad was in hospice for cancer.
Absolutely brilliant. Unappreciated depth of musicianship, get on board. People like Mr. Corgan are few and far between, and don't inhabit the planet for long.
Well done. Siamese dream was the first CD I owned. Yeah I'm 43. Never imagined I would hear Mr Corgan cover this. As a GD fan, this is the song for you to cover BC. I don't know if why this came up in my YT feed, but it did and tears fell. Missing a friend who made their next step in the journey. And now this shows up at the exact moment.
It's nice to hear rarities in 2022. It takes me back in time to when there were almost as many songs on the records as on the B-sides. I imagine there's also a lot of songs written that don't end up on the records but it's much rarer to hear them than at the time. Thanks
@@deadheadwill2609 Landslide is a cover and was on piscies iscariot. On MCIS b sides, there are some cover too like a night like this. The point is, SP sharing more B sides in the past
Wow amazing never knew he knew some dead till today though i figured caused 1979 says shakedown which came out in 78 so i figured it was related even if wasnt but much respect
I can't decide if i really dont like it or if i really love it. It is one of my very favorite Dead tunes.....it is an interesting take on it....and it is beautiful
I like this quite a lot. It's not really faithful to the correct changes written by Phil Lesh (which are deceptively complex but there's a musical purpose behind all of them), but Corgan's bringing it down a half step and his vocal delivery are both really intriguing. I don't mind if Corgan likes or dislikes(d) the Dead, not important. But for those who don't know, the lyrics were written by Robert Hunter when Phil's father was dying as a means of comfort for him. Phil has stopped singing this song, as well as others when he damaged his vocal cords in the mid-19seventies. His heavy alcohol usage and other habits for many years prevented him from singing even backup harmonies, by and large. But to get an idea of what this song means to the Dead community/Heads/band, one only needs to watch this video of when the Dead surprised everyone in early 1986 with this bust out. It was the first time he sang lead vocals in 13 and a half years. It's a video made by someone in the Dead crew and obviously wasn't meant for any release. th-cam.com/video/FAL5iBOD3q0/w-d-xo.html
And it is really odd that Kurt didn't like the Dead. They were everything he wanted to be. Followed and loved by their fans and couldn't have cared less about being famous. Made all their money without the corporate music machine on their terms
Love the song, usually like Billy, but not digging his rendition. Strange choices in inflection, delivery and timing for the lyric’s. Long live the Grateful Dead.
In a way, Billy always sort of does that with covers like this, "Landslide," and others. I just think it didn't work out as well here as it did on "Landslide," but still an interesting take in my opinion, and cool to hear this song living on in different ways.
Leave it to Billy Corgan to so beautifully capture the depth of this song. RIP Phil

Thank you, Billy Corgan! This is perfect.
Bet the majority of the crowd doesn’t know this song is a Grateful Dead tune except the one that hooted in the beginning lol . Great cover!

I liked the Dead song, but the harmonizing was a bit grating to my ears. Billy fixed it for me.
I loved that hoot
Wow. This gives me chills everytime I hear this.

It's a difficult song to sing, and it's not one that Billy should have tackled.
