    Hi Gail, I have a question, how do I know that I push the pump too far? Can it be shown by the sound it makes? Because I always need to grind the coffee really fine to get 40 grams yield in 20-30 seconds.
    I do notice that the pump going from being very noisy at start and then the sound start to quieter when brewing. Its like when we do a backflush the pump sound start to fade on the count of 9 or 10 seconds.

    I have owned a Oscar for 14 years. It has treated us well. It is time for an upgrade and have been looking at this model. Great steam pressure and pulls a great shot. The one hang up I have with this is it doesn't have a manual pour. I always open the steam valve and manually pour water through the group head before I pour my shot. This will make me pour a preset short single. A manual button would be nice but still thinking this is going to be on my counter soon.

    • @ArbathSahadewa
      @ArbathSahadewa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow 14 years, that's worth the price.

    I have the Oscar ll for a month now, great machine! But in my box, the portafilter was not divided into two parts, and i cant undo or turn the dripping part (forgot its name). Someone said that in some cases they are glued. Does that seem right? For me its not a problem but the two dripping holes are not perfectly horizontal with the handle of the portafilter. Its like a corner of 45 degrees. Another question, how frequently do you need to clean which parts? Because the manual is a bit severe or exaggerated imo.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lennart Vanstaen The spouts? They should twist off, are you unable to do that? As for cleaning, you will want to backflush about once a month- depending on your usage. And always wipe off and purge your steam wand after every use. Wiping out the water tank every so often is also a good habit to have :D We would recommend reading the manual for descaling and other cleaning tips as every manufacture is a little different.

    I bought the Rocket Appartamento instead. Couple reasons are I like manual lever and not the timed pour of the Oscar. I also like the ease of maintenance on the group head and valves up front without having to tare into the machine. Rebuilding the group head is simple. The last reason is I just done care for the design of the Oscar. I'm sure it's a good machine for the price just not for me. And I did buy my Rocket from you. Should be here tomorrow.

      @loreleioday2679 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brittanybutler2211 it did well but was too small for our shop. We maybe do 20-40 espresso drinks a day and the reservoir was a little frustrating to work with so we got a larger machine to plumb in. Otherwise, it’s frothing arm is UNMATCHED and it made beautiful and delicious espresso. It does have a non food safe part (not made of stainless steel) which is weird. Can’t remember exactly what it was but I think it was the solenoid, which means it’ll wear faster than higher end machines

    Out of the machines you've reviewed, which do you recommend for making cappuccinos and lattes in a small business?

  • @lordmmg
    @lordmmg 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know whether my Oscar II has an issue: when I use single or double shot buttons the water does not flow continuosly. For example, within the 30 sec of the double shot, at 12-13 sec a lot of steam starts to flow over the shower and the water disappear. After 5-6 seconds of steam, a lot of water starts to flow but very hot. All my coffees end with a "burned" flavor because of this pattern. Sometimes I get 160 g of water and sometimes until 250g in the same 30sec. I have seen owners without this problem and other owners with this same issue but all the machines are new so this is very strange.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Zach!
      You can easily make a fantastic shot without it if you have a solid grinder. You don't have a pressure gauge so you have to dial it in by taste, which is where that grinder comes into play. I'd argue that the cost of the Oscar II + OPV & installation means that you could have purchased a nicer machine.

      +edgardo reyes Since Oscar II comes with vacuum breaker, you can put it on a timer, so it is hot, when you get up.

    Thanks for review. But you know, I think you'll need more detail review about inside parts. Because Oscar (old model) has no OPV, Giggler etc .. I want to know about improvement points.

    • @Chanets
      @Chanets 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      + Anti-vacuum valve installed originally
      + Giglers installed originally
      + The retaining valve installed originally is in steel instead of plastic
      + The pressurestat is not screwed directly on the boiler but through a tube
      - The default pressure is 15 bar
      - No overpressure valve (the OPV allows for a constant 10 bar extraction, instead of 15 bar)
      - No professional Sirai pressurestat

    • @Chanets
      @Chanets 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +hl450 Yes, you're right. I guess it comes only for the US, because for the European market, the dealers sell the Oscar II without the Sirai pressurestat. It can be added at an extra cost.

    Gail, can I confirm that the buttons are volumetric based on an internal flow meter and not based on time?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Oscar 2 is time based while the Musica has an internal flow meter- sorry for any confusion!

    • @edmondgoh84
      @edmondgoh84 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Seattle Coffee Gear hi Gail, I read on the Oscar 2 manual page 24 of 72 that programming is based on "desired dose", and someone from another popular coffee website told me that it's based on dose via internal flow meter rather than time. Could you do a test (maybe tamp harder and looser using same coffee) and let me know again please? It's important to me because if it's time-based, I won't be buying it.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We spoke with Nuova Simonelli on this, it is time based.

    I have one of these and it takes like 10 seconds before the coffee starts coming out, do you know the reason for that?

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Oscar II has 2 second pre-infusion built in to programming, and it also takes time to saturate and expand the puck when you pull a shot. This pause is usually around 5 seconds, so if yours is taking quite a bit longer you might be grinding too fine.

    Anyone has inconsistent flow / extraction issue with Oscar II? espresso extracts 15 sec after button is pressed.. comes out bitter, with no crema.

    Good Review, however you left out a vital mistake with the Oscar it doesn't have a bypass valve to ensure extraction at 9bar, and the oscar can run at 10 or even 11 bar, it needs a fix which i explain on my site Spina Espresso - TH-cam

    Great machine except you can't control extraction pressure! Since you can't it's harder to adjust the grind and you have to weigh the coffee to get consistent shots. Equals coffee waist. 19 Bar pressure from the factory and it should be 9 or 10. Steam pressure fantastic!
