    I was searching for a flow battery solution with only the liquid as a energy source. So a bigger tank, simply means more storage. So thanks for the info!

    So weird how great minds think alike!
    I was researching the other day how to make one of these at home... Appreciate the video!
    Has given me some new ideas!
    I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one doing these weird at home experiments haha

    Could HCl and NaOH be used to start with or do you have to have the power input to populate the electrodes? Many thanks. Always watching. I had no idea you could make these chemicals from just table salt.

    Fantastic demonstration! Do you know how much performance will degrade with a larger gap? For example the radius of your container between electrodes. And I'm wondering what the highest specific power would be given that the conductivity is quite low.

    Hi there. very interesting stuff. i have seen all ur videos and was wondering would u do a followup on the vanadium flow bat ? and if u would build a flow battery what chemistry would u use?
    thanks and keep up the xperimenting

    • @cayrex
      @cayrex  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I will make a followup of vanadium flow battery. Hmm it is hard to tell which chemistry is good to use in some battery system, because all or most of chemistrys have pros and cons. For this reason I start with the project called "Hyperflow" a multi material cell years ago. But on the another side,... some all manganese or metal halide chemistry will be interesting.

    Excellent video and very interesting! I am not sure if this reaction produces HCl though. Sure the equation balances, but would you not just rather get water containing dissolved Cl2? I think that will also test as an acid. Anyways you have my attention, i want to try it at home!

    I was half way through the video when i jumped to make a comment proposing making this battery to a simple flow battery. I made that comment and then proceeded with the video only to be pleasantly surprised.
    Charging and discharging could be done with the motors in series so the pumps work with current during charging and discharging.

    • @Harbie
      @Harbie 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I believe the direction of the flow doesn't matter. If there is flow, the reaction occurs continuously. Otherwise the energy potential of the liquid runs out.

    • @kreynolds1123
      @kreynolds1123 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Harbie yup, the direction of flow doesn't matter if there is one container for analyte and one container for catholyte. Charging or discharging you always want to pump to avoid overcharg or over discharge.
      Alternately, If you have 4 containers (2 analyte and 2 catholyte) then direction of flow through a pump would depend on if charging or discharging.

  • @matteoricci9129

  • @ejennings98
    @ejennings98 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very nice! It would be good to measure the total capacity of the small battery and efficiency of charge. Also make some projections of the possibilities if scaled properly.

    • @kreynolds1123
      @kreynolds1123 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It would be nice, but mostly useless because of too many variables that would be dificult to characterize well.
      1. the poor size and conductivity and geomitry of the carbon felt.
      2. The volume and electrolyte concentration and how much.
      3. Temperature and pressure placed on plates and how that might change the carbon poors.
      Sodium sulphate has a higher voltage window than sodium chloride, Resulting in a higher energy density. And minimizes the potential for off gassing like chlorene with sodium chloride.But nafion membrane is slightly more resistant to sulphate ions, but still has good chemical stability.

    So good, thanks for sharing
    For some time now I had been thinking about the possibility of making osmotic membranes using objects from nature, for example, the skin of an onion, or banana leaves, or bamboo pods, cuts from tree trunks have been used. of the lime tree, of a few millimeters to desalinate seawater, successfully
    I think some types of wood cut crosswise could be used, it is a good essay topic.
    all the best

    Seems like you will be depleting the electrolytes, with losing cl2 and h2 (charging at 2.5V). Or do you think you are just moving concentration of h+ and thus have a type of concentration cell?

    • @cayrex
      @cayrex  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, here I overcharging the cell. With overcharging I get faster reaction, but I also note that the cell voltage is in region of 2V. Same effect you can get when you use for example a zinc manganese battery with alkaline/acid electrolyte (2.3 to 2.5V)

      Yes it is cheaper,.... but the vanadium is already verified technology which the salt battery tech is only in experimental stage look at AQUABATTERY for more details of salt battery.
