Cadou (Kado) is actually Romanian (the game is set set in Romania, so it would make more since to be Romanian) for gift. For it to be French it would be spelled Cadeau (Kadu).
You forgot the mention that the fish dude was injecting wolf blood in the spine of some people that caused them to change into the more wolf like monsters.

I watched it around 40ish minutes after the premiere started, what now? I may wait again. For what? The end maybe, or another video. Let's make a machine that can convert carbon dioxide to oxygen. Now when I'm thinking about it, the insects might get huge again as their ancestors billions of years ago before shrinking down to the sizes of today.
You're incorrect about the Vârcolac. The Lycans do not evolve into them out of the blue. Vârcolac are created when Moreau injected wolf blood into the spine of a Lycan. It's in the in-game files.
Yeah I always assumed the experimentation entries you find in the mountains next to Moreau indicated he created those things. He was bad at mass production and production in general, but still got a few potent results.
Wish Donna and marou had their own custom monsters like dimistrescu's sword wielding zombies, or heisenbergs soldats. Like a good coverd fish lycans with a "deep ones" vibe that live in the resovvour, and for Donna, maybe dolls filled with her cadou, and only move when you look away.
when I saw the lockers everywhere during the puzzle section of Donna's house I was like, "ah, since I don't have weapons there'll be zombie doll things I have to run and hide from later during a combat section". And well..kinda. You could hide from the baby thing in the locker. As scary as that section was I just wished there was more to the combat than hide and seek.
A note about the Vârcolacs is that one of Moreau's journals states he added wolf blood to the spines of some individuals he used the Cadou on, so that also contributes to their formation. There also is a second type of Vârcolac, the alfa is a separate one only encountered in the later game near Luiza's house.
Happy birthday big man! Thank you for all the work you've done for us, we all love it so much! F to the end of your twenties, but here is a cheer to all the years to come!
When i heard RE 8 was coming out the first thought i had was. “Roanokes vids are gonna be interesting” Mainly caus my potato of a brain couldnt comprehend the creatures
17:58 From Moreau's Log of Experiments: "I put in the Cadou and then I tried putting wolf blood from a needle into the spine. The person wriggled a lot and then killed my assistant. I could not hold it down so I put it in a cage. Now I have to feed it." This could also explain why some of them have extreme wolf-like features, while others can be explained by mutation.
Always appreciate the research you do that makes ideas this wild sound at least a little bit plausible. Another prime example of how nature really is stranger than even our wildest imaginings.
I thought I remembered reading in Moreau's journal that the varcolac were made when injecting subjects (that already are implanted with a cadou) with wolf blood directly into the spinal cord. You can find this entry in his shack which also contains the wolfsbane revolver. side note: the varcolac and varcolac alfa are two different entities. The one covered in spears that is later found in the fallow plot is the alfa variant; you even get an achievement for killing it.
Correction for the Varcolac (the massive, quadruped beast): These creatures were not regular Lycans that devolved into monstrous beasts over time, but instead were the direct result of experimentation by Moreau, the village doctor (who then came to be the resident hunchback/fish monster). This was done by injecting wolf blood directly into the spine of a freshly made lycan, causing violent transformation and aggression (Source: File named Moreau's Diary of Experiments). Also fun fact, all Lycans are males, as females instead became Moroaica (the zombie like creatures under Castle Dimitrescu) or Samca, the winged monsters with long tongues. There are no female Lycans at all in RE8.
@@hamsandvich8956 CA like in CADMIUM and DOW afterwards. I remember as a child it was weird when I heard how you pronounce certain letters in english, I is AI, E is I, A is AE, etc. so I get that it is difficult to pronounce romanian words if you're coming from an english mindset. Or even easier go to google translate, type in cadou, select romanian if it doesn't automatically and hit listen.
An interesting part of the creation of a Vârcolac/Alpha is the fact that they're the result of adding wolf DNA into the spine of a person undergoing the Lycan transformation, resulting in a more animalistic appearance.
This is such a fun channel! I don't have the patience (or enough brain power lol) to have ever gone into any science but I always found biology, specifically viruses, interesting. I've really been enjoying all these videos! :D
"Let's see what your really made of....Ethan Winters" To be honest I really loved resident evil 8, I'm currently on my second playthrough on the hardest difficulty and still love it
There are some incorrect information in this video. For example, Varcolacs are not natural further mutation of the Lycans, but Lycans that mutated due to wolf DNA being injected into them. And also Varcolac Alfa is an alpha version of the Varcolac that is stronger and has more HP than normal Varcolac. It's a secret mini boss that Roanoke most likely missed in-game.
Yeah, the concept art section of the game even explicitly mentions the megamycete stores the genetic coding of any organism that died in the area. That's why Miranda could take on many different animalistic shapes by utilizing the mold in the final battle, it says.
I thought the Varcolacs are made with the standard lycan with the cadou but with wolf blood injected into their spinal cord? I remember seeing the note at the shack somewhere after we entered Moreau's area and one of the Varcolacs attacked us.

if you rewatch/play RE7 it kinda makes sense with Ethan.. and the plot twist in 8.. damn it i should have known. i only started thinking about it after Watching The Rad Brad killed Lady D. Hint, Ethan gave Mia the serum to cure from RE7 mold.. but he himself was infected as seen by a cut arm AND foot being reattached in RE7.. so.. .... Ethan died in RE7 and is just a living mold not controlled by Eve who's a sister essentially to the mold in RE8. Which also means Mia fucked a moldy corpse to create a mold-human hybrid that's more stable and deadlier than ANYTHING UMBRELLA EVER MADE.... who will be the main protagonist or main villain of RE9.
@@jesseallen3109 I think Ethan was just revived by the mold. And yes he was infected, but in the same way the Bakers were. When Jack says: "Welcome to the family son", he basically is saying that Ethan is just like them. Maybe just as it gave Jack regenerative abilities it did the same way with Ethan. Just happen to be that Ethan was a better host for the mold.
@@christianordonez9231 Kay.. beware. this has spoilers: Even RE8 points out (after Ethan has his heart ripped out by Mother Miranda after he defeats magneto wannabe) that when Ethan first had his hand cut off and blacked out there's a high chance that he's dead in RE7. But the mold of RE7 has the same capacity as RE8 mold as RE7's is a sample of RE8's. That means that the mold, if the host is viable enough, (as we see with Mother Miranda) grants immortality as well as the ability to change shape to the host.. Because the mold remembers the consciousness/dna/memories/etc of the person it consumes. EDIT: OOOH! further evidence of this is Ethan's weird seance/ghost communication with Jack and family despite two (mother and Jack) of the family having been killed and where they say that EVE willn't let them go. This is because as we read/learn in RE8 the megamycete keeps their consciousness and thus it could be said EVE had some of that ability too. it just manifested as some crazy dream/ghost seance vision/what have you with Eve. Which means the line "welcome to the family, son" means they had killed and reborn Ethan as a mold person, fully infected but with much of his mental self and mind fully intact. Now obviously Ethan never uses the change shape ability because he STILL BELIEVES HE'S HUMAN. This also explains why he doesn't just regrow his two lost fingers in RE8 because he just can't fathom that he's not human. Which could be said then that since EVE couldn't control him and he didn't die or become mindless/rabid monster like the rest of the mold humanoids in RE7 did whence eve died that ETHAN has either a VERY STRONG SENSE OF SELF.. or something else is weird about him that made it so he wasn't affected. But finding out and starting to realize that he is IN FACT a walking mold corpse starts breaking down his strong sense of self and this is why in the finale against Mother Miranda you see him starting to crystalize, and even loose functionality of his left hand. And rather then risk that at this point, if he decided to fight to survive, he becomes a monster like those he killed in RE7, he instead gives into his fate, by walking INTO and blowing up the megamycete, thus ending him entirely as even a failing mold body like his own couldn't reform and harm anyone or anything from such a destructive explosion.
I think you made a mistake about the “alpha” (the more werewolf like lycan); in the lab of Salvatore Moreau (the freak one), it’s said that he injected lycans with werewolf spinal fluid in their column. I think that’s the reason they became more werewolf like, not because evolution
Yup, to be fair to him. He only did one play through. I think I missed that doc first time over too. Also he called them Alpha Valcalac. Another mistake since there is only one that appears as a Mimi boss.
"Cadou" is a romanian word that means "gift". There are no french relation (i mean i didnt found) to this word. BTW since "cadou" means "gift", remember in RE7 how the Baker family is talking about Evelynns "gift"?
It's also important to note that Heisenburg is romanian, he has romanian military tags on him. Could be him who initailly gave the parasite to Miranda calling it "the cadou" as in a gift for her but she just liked the name and it stuck
Day 3 of ditching my biology class to watch Roanoke again: Ahh yes I feel the growth of my frontal lobe getting more complex. Btw Happy Birthday Roanoke 🎂
I was hoping you’d cover this! I have no clue how true to life these enemies could be lore wise, but I’m excited to see you explain it! Loved the game too.
What I like about the Lycan, is how they blur the line between the series 2 staple camps of common enemies - They’re savage, beastial, & spasmodic like the typical b.o.w. or zombie; But still retain enough coordination, soicial instincts, & motor-skills to use tools and follow orders like a plagas infectee.
Varcolac Lycans aren't late-stage Lycans at all, instead, they're Lycans whose hosts had wolf blood injected into their spine as the Cadou mutated them. There's an in-game diary written by Moreau detailing how they were created. The Varcolac Alfa is just an especially strong one. Edit: Also, there are four "alpha" Lycans in the game. Two are mini-bosses you can find around in later parts of the game and two are actual bosses. Urias and Urias strajer are the main bosses meanwhile the mini-bosses are collectively called Urias Drac. Both Urias Dracs are non-Lycan enemies but they are slightly smaller than both bosses so I'm assuming they're mutated Moroaica and the bosses are mutated Lycans. Just something to keep note of.

Would be really cool tho if that we're the case
also to be fair the lycans were "treated" with wolf blood, and thanks to the HGT effect of the mold, started adding in wolf traits
Donna even *does* use her powers to make her dolls move... but only to scare you in a cutscene.

Tech Maru atleast made the more wolf version of the Lycan
when I saw the lockers everywhere during the puzzle section of Donna's house I was like, "ah, since I don't have weapons there'll be zombie doll things I have to run and hide from later during a combat section". @@Quirderph that's not true. If you dont find her right away the tolls attack Ethan in a short cutscene
A note about the Vârcolacs is that one of Moreau's journals states he added wolf blood to the spines of some individuals he used the Cadou on, so that also contributes to their formation. There also is a second type of Vârcolac, the alfa is a separate one only encountered in the later game near Luiza's house.

wolf blood from a needle into the spine. The person wriggled a lot and then killed my assistant. I could not hold it down so I put it in a cage. Now I have to feed it."
This could also explain why some of them have extreme wolf-like features, while others can be explained by mutation.

@@BilboSwaggins723 Yeah, he must've missed that.

There was but I don't think he injected it into every test subject.
@@chaosdragon-fox1864 from the note it looked like it was the initial testing that he was doing and he came across making lycans
Happy birthday. Thanks for your content dude
Fun fact for anyone who cares:

Such a great game

Need to hear about the morphology of reattachable limbs
I don't recall Lycans having reattachable limbs. Or are you talking about Ethan?
@@namethis658 most likely, he's the only one who's doing it fairly often.
if you rewatch/play RE7 it kinda makes sense with Ethan.. and the plot twist in 8.. damn it i should have known. i only started thinking about it after Watching The Rad Brad killed Lady D.
@@christianordonez9231 Kay.. beware. this has spoilers:
Even RE8 points out (after Ethan has his heart ripped out by Mother Miranda after he defeats magneto wannabe) that when Ethan first had his hand cut off and blacked out there's a high chance that he's dead in RE7.
Always a pleasure mate, also happy early birthday! Can’t wait for the gears Seeker/siege beasts episodes.

I think you made a mistake about the “alpha” (the more werewolf like lycan); in the lab of Salvatore Moreau (the freak one), it’s said that he injected lycans with werewolf spinal fluid in their column. I think that’s the reason they became more werewolf like, not because evolution

"Cadou" is a romanian word that means "gift". There are no french relation (i mean i didnt found) to this word. BTW since "cadou" means
"gift", remember in RE7 how the Baker family is talking about Evelynns "gift"?
It's also important to note that Heisenburg is romanian, he has romanian military tags on him. Could be him who initailly gave the parasite to Miranda calling it "the cadou" as in a gift for her but she just liked the name and it stuck

As always, great stuff.
What I like about the Lycan, is how they blur the line between the series 2 staple camps of common enemies - They’re savage, beastial, & spasmodic like the typical b.o.w. or zombie;
But still retain enough coordination, soicial instincts, & motor-skills to use tools and follow orders like a plagas infectee.
