    We have a Hebrew speaking congregation here in Haifa. Our priest is newly ordained. He use to be our deacon. He's an Italian polyglot and he heard my confession but didn't know the absolution in English. I do speak Italian but I did my confession in English because I'm not fluent. So he did the absolution in Italian. I'm old and vaguely remember the Latin. I'm not sure he even knows it since he went to a NeoCatechumenal Seminary here. But, I liked the Italian. It is very close to the Latin. Everything here is Novus Ordo. The Latin Patriarch was just elevated to Cardinal. That could prove interesting. He's also Italian.

    Powerful episode! Do you think there is a need for more changes from the Latin to English? For example the Latin of Psalm of ' The Lord is my Shepherd ' versus ' The Lord ruleth me' ....

      I'd imagine so. It being the law, and law instituted to prevent people being killed or maimed. Rather serious.

      @@lexodius I'd argue most traffic and road laws are very serious and should be followed. Negligence, in this area, is both illegal, expensive, and dangerous.

    Traditional Catholics go to Confession at least once a month.

    Do the changes change the original Latin? Or is it just the translations are changed? Like the responses Benedict XVI proposed 10 years or so ago.

  • @victoriaeinbinder9487

    I'm wondering how this effects (if at all) those priests who use the Latin version absolution. Not the Traditional rite, but the Latin translation of the new rite. That's what my priests have always used.

    So is this why the Latin Mass I grew up with, used for centuries, is no longer valid to give grace unless the pope approves the priest or order? This also upset the previous Pope. How do we know Rome won't re-translate the English version again, like in 1972 and 2011? So do the words matter unless Rome gets upset, like the priest who did all those invalid/ wrong baptisms?

    • @carolynkimberly4021
      @carolynkimberly4021 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just another attempt by Francis to erase everything before his own dictatorship. My priests will continue to give absolution in the Pre-Vatican 2 way.

    The Church has had 2,000 years to get it right. We change the mass every 10 years or so. We go from "And also with you" to "and with your spirit". How many times have we changed the Our Father over the centuries? Now we need new words of absolution. Really? All these insignificant changes are designed only to soothe the egos of those who make them, to leave their "lasting mark" on the Church. Let's determine once and for all how we should worship and leave it alone!
