    The PIR on the EP1 is great for avoiding false positives on the mmwave in larger rooms. PIR to turn the lights on, mmwave to turn them off, perfection.
    Oh and the DFRobot sensor in the EP1 doesn't support zones, but I guess you found that out by now 😁

    As a parent of young children (and a maker), I like this "ability to sense breathing". It means I can get an alert if my child stops breathing for instance, or has difficulty.

      Well no, not like that. It is able to sense breathing, but not exclusively breathing. Any movement will do so it’s not of much use for this purpose.

    Your videos are making me want to set up home automation more and more. I'd been lookin at air quality sensors, but adding that millimeter wave sensor would be so useful too!

    Nice! I got an EP1 this month and it’s pretty awesome! I built a self-built one using a Seeed Studio MMWave sensor in a 3d printed Gonk from starwars! He lives in my kids room and turns off the lights when nobody is around because he’s got all the govee unicorn vomit and always forgets to turn it off!

    60GHz sensors can tell heart rate, distance, do fall detection, etc... normal mmwave ones are 24ghz (if they're good, if they're less than 24ghz, don't touch 'em)

    An almost unrelated question: what gauche of wiring did you use inside the box?

    They need that in Japan where people die alone in apartments and are not fpund for 3 weeks or more. So if there is no motion in the bathroom or kitchen for 3 days energency services is notified. Good for people over 60.

    • @Mellow_labs

      I would but I don’t actually recommend it, it’s made to be up high. Which I now know is not where you want to put a mmwave, it’s not very good at detecting shorter people. So you’re better off putting it about knee high.

    A simple IR sensor cant do the same? or what's the rocket science behind this ?

    • @Mellow_labs
      @Mellow_labs  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      In most cases where I’ve tried IR sensors, they suck. A little bit of sunlight through the window is going to trigger them constantly. Also they don’t have the range of a mmwave sensor, this one can detect you from 24 m away.

    Why can't this be used like those that uses coin batteries? e.g. aqara sensor
    That wire will definitely not pass spouse approval.

    • @Mellow_labs
      @Mellow_labs  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The reason this DIY setup can't use a coin battery like some other sensors is due to higher power consumption.
      Beetle ESP32-C3: ~160 mA at 3.3V
      mmWave Sensor: ~3.5 mA at 3.3V
      BME680 Sensor: ~3.1 mA at 3.3V
      Total Power Consumption: ~165 mA
      A CR2032 coin battery (220 mAh) would only last about 1.2 hours with this setup. The Aqara Presence Sensor, also uses a wire due to similar power needs. Despite initial concerns my partner, quickly appreciate the functionality and benefits of this sensor.
