Netflix also has a documentary about this guy, and there was only one woman forensic on the team at the time. She, Kim Hee Sook, was interviewed throughout the docuseries, and the most emotional part was how she teared up recounting the gravesite. She was deadset on fingerprinting every single body of every woman to a point where she apparently held the wrist of one victim and said "Please help me return you to your family" over and over again
Edit: The Netflix series is called The Raincoat Killer: Chasing a Predator in Korea
Thank you for sharing that.. they'll never be forgotten.
Heart-wrenching.

@@Flaschenteufelobviously she chose the right job, and I’m sure families of victims she’s helped identify are glad she chose it, too.

I feel really bad for the guy who discovered his family slaughtered, I don't even want to imagine how awful his emotions must have been when he found them.
I agree. Three generations of a family slaughtered all for one man’s twisted desires
Unbelievably very sad indeed 😢😢😢
That would be the most devastating feeling a person could experience.
the bit about screaming at the fish tank demanding answers would be hilarious in any other context, but here it's tragic
Is it weird that despite the dark topics you cover, I find your voice incredibly soothing? The moment I hear you welcoming us back to the coffee shop, it's like the tension just goes right out of me, lol.
Why do you think he's almost at 2 million subs? Because it's not weird and that's why he's so popular.
His voice is narcotic.
I completely agree!! His voice is so soothing that before bed I put on one of his videos to fall asleep to! Guess I’m a weirdo too! Lol 🤷🏼♀️😂
I fall asleep to it and then wake up the next day and rewatch 😂
Ok now I like the beard..

I can hear Adrien saying that 😅😂😂
Guy with red jacket is not youngchul he is Jong Nam Gyu who is another serial killer at that time in Korea
Thanks for featuring older victims. I’m a senior myself and crimes against the elderly aren’t as uncommon as you think because we present what appears to be easy targets! How could he escape t😢interview room? Usually once the door closes, it locks.
Not a senior, but I totally understand where you’re coming from. Margart Douglas 😔☹️
This feels exceptionally sad. All those beautiful people, some even sleeping cozily in their beds. The shattered father who comes home to find he no longer has his family in the most horrific way. 😥
On another note, I love your excellent pronunciation of Asian names.
Lastly, yes to more international/Asian cases. The Thai episodes were fascinating - a whole different world. One gets sick of repetitious cases. Thanks so much, Adrian. --Toronto 🇨🇦

Hi, Adrian! The photo you used at 17:47 and 18:05 is of a different serial killer, Jeong Nam-gyu (정남규). The evidence photo from 22:59 is also his.
Jeong Nam-gyu committed crimes between 2004 and 2006, coinciding with Yoo Young-Chul (2003-2004). Yoo Young-Chul even falsely confessed to the crime that Jeong Nam-gyu committed. Jeong Nam-gyu was furious about this, so he said to the officers that he want to ‘set the record straight’.
They look alike
There are channels I tuned to after getting my first true crime episodes from this channel, including Dire Trip (via Q&A recommendation). It’s safe to say that I keep returning and checking only this channel on a weekly basis. I’ve noticed that over the time only Coffeehouse Crime has remained authentic and progressed to something new organically. The work ethic of the creator is on another level as well as the politeness and respect for total strangers and even victims who were not angels at all. It’s refreshingly entertaining and the manner of storytelling is very satisfying for pickier people like myself. All in all, a terrific job, Adrien.
Well said. For me I think it's his politeness and caring. It matters.
That's why I subscribed !!! Every video notified !!
I like Dire Trip too
I found Coffehouse from comments on Thatchapter and Coffehouse has grew substantially since that time. I used to watch a lot of Dire myself, but I started noticing he was more "media" minded which I won't explain here, but rather just say think for yourself using your own common sense and don't use media created buzzwords designed to input fear into likeminded people. I do understand he's a young kid and may grow out of it so I will from time to time still look at his channel.
I'm severely picky as well, CHC has been my favorite since I discovered the channel! The respect is unparallelled.
Thank you for your diverse content!! After years of watching other TH-camrs on true crime, you’re one of the few I know I can rely on for new and interesting content. On a personal note, 2023 was an incredibly rough year for me, and in the moments I couldn’t get out of my own head, I would turn to my favorite TH-camrs to help get my mind off things. So thank you for all your hard work and efforts- it kept me from having to go on a search for videos I could tolerate lol
thank you! I hope 2024 treats you well!
Seconded...😉
Thank you!! I have definitely made 2024 my year ✨💕

I used to listen to a lot more true crime but Coffeehouse is one of the only ones I still do anymore because of how much attention he gives to the victims. too many almost feel like they're glorifying the killer and their violence but coffee gives such a focus on who deserves the attention.

I agree
As a South African fan I love seeing that you pay attention to international stories as much as those that are local to you. Speaking of South Africa... Have you looked into the van Breda family murders.... Tons of forensics there...
Another insane case (not South African thought) is the Halderson's murders in Wisconsin. Do yourself a favour and watch the States opening statement... It's a masterclass!!!!
Can't wait till your next release!
This serial killer was featured in the kdrama, Through the Darkness. It's a really good detective genre series based on real crimes in SK. I highly recommend!
I lived in South Korea for a year teaching English.
It really is SO safe. I left my wallet and phone at the coffee shop by the hiking place.
Did my hike, came back after about 2 hours. My stuff was untouched.
Nowhere is safe, just because you were safe doesn’t mean many people are not safe there. Stealing is not the only crime possible, doesn’t endanger you or your life.

The sensitivity with which you handle these stories is remarkable. The anger I feel towards the perpetrators is immense.

South Korea is not as safe as people like to claim. Studies have shown that many crimes go unreported in SK; for instance, rape is largely unreported as it is seen as a personal matter and can affect family reputations if reported. Child and spousal abuse are also extremely underreported for the same reason. Additionally, like in many countries, these issues can be seen as personal matters that don't require police intervention although they are technically illegal. That being said, the amount of cameras everywhere and a lack of weapons do make crime less frequent overall.
They always go with the reputation, yet they don't know that international public knows this. Them trying to protect their reputation is also ruining their reputation. They also want to project their country as perfect yet in the end the pressure being put on the younger generation is one of causes of high suicidal rate in their country. They protect men in rape, child and women abuse because of patriarchal beliefs.
Yep, a ton of crazies in that country. Stephanie of Rotten Mango (and her other channels) does a thorough job of reporting a lot of really freaky crimes there. Tons of crime against women/children and the punishment is often laughable compared to the violence and atrocities committed against these vulnerable populations. Sick, sick, twisted people there.
Actually they only consider it rape if a foreigner commits it, if it's a national they just consider it normal.
@doodahgurlie she cover stories about every country tho lol and I'm sure she focus on Korean stories more cuz she's is korean herself lmao
That's probably why it seems like the crimes we do hear about are pretty brutal
Thanks Adrian from Canada, found your channel 6 months ago and I managed to power through all your content! Now I wait patiently for new posts, keep up the great work. Best crime show ever!

I lived in S. Korea in 93-94. We were living 25 kilometers from the dmz & were there when Kim il sung died. We were always on high alert in that little town. But it was an awesome experience to get to live there. The culture was awesome, the people were great and the food was the best! My fav is bulgogi and rice with yakimandu (dumplings), & the street food was amazing. Anyway, I don't think I've heard of this case before & am excited to dive in, I just got excited that you were discussing a place I lived and that was one of the best experiences of my life so I wanted to comment & share a bit. Keep up the good work! 💜
Ah, a fellow expat, hi! Are you originally from a Western country? I'm just curious as to how different the culture was to where you grew up. I'm an American expat in the UK. I've recently thought about relocating to the Far East. I'm quite curious about it.
I've heard that English teachers are in need often throughout the Far East & Asia.
@@Julia-uh4li hi! I'm not a full expat (yet, my husband died 3 years ago so things have gotten difficult). I love exploring other cultures and the best way to do that is to really immerse yourself in the culture. Personally I love eastern countries. Korea is the only Asian country I've lived in . They do need English teachers there, I've known many who have gone that route. I'm originally from America. The culture is very different from the West and back then I didn't know as much as I do now so there was some culture shock. But it's a really cool country. We used to get on the subway, randomly point to a subway stop far from Seoul and just go explore. We found amusement parks, burial mounds, amazing open air markets, temples etc. we visited Gyeongbokgung palace 2x, once in winter when the koi ponds around the palace were frozen, and again in summer where we could feed the fish we even saw a traditional wedding in traditional clothing which was a really neat experience because it was very different from weddings in America. I'd recommend you to go! There's a ton of expats there , and American military, and most of the people there understand English well enough to communicate if you need/want to. Good luck, I hope you do it! 💜
As someone who makes a point of trying every dish in the whole world, which leads to many confusing hours in the supermarket looking for ingredients, bulgogi is a favorite. Think I'll make some next week.
Today's food on the table will be honey glaced salmon with Polenta. Yes, I am hungry.
Sorry this was a weird comment, take care and stay safe.
I’m surprised because this is one of the most famous cases from Korea

Korea was my first Active Duty Post in the U.S. Army.
I remember the food and drink, the people, the smells, and the highways lined with beautiful geography. Rest stops with street carts that would sell peanut butter pancakes and vending machines that offered hot coffee in a can. Everything was different, new, and beautiful. I’m so glad I had that experience, I just wish I hadn’t had so much to drink while I was there.
Sounds great! I would love to visit someday.
The peanut butter pancake would be called Hotteok! It is filled with crushed peanuts and brown sugar.

Greetings from Germany! Really like your channel. You're doing great work.
South Korean police are extremely bad at solving murders, grapes and other violent crimes. They are not trained in it. And since they don't even speak English, they can't learn from other countries such as Germany, who's police is very good at solving these types of crimes. They are simply too prideful to even WANT to learn from police in other countries or ask for their help.
Many murdered women, men and children in korea could have been alive if the Korean police studied for example German or Brittish police work and/or asked them for help. The "pride" of the Korean police is the reason for so many innocent people losing their lives.
It's so fascinating hearing stories like that from places over seas! Thank you Broseph! Keep em coming please
