The old chisel gets a new Zebrano handle | I did it the same way my grandfather did 100 years ago

- In this video I am making a wooden handle for an old chisel. I'm using an ancient method to turn wood on lathe that dates from 1870. I'm showing the process step by step. Even though it takes a tremendous amount of time to finish, it is a really relaxing and enjoyable process.

Glad you did it the old fashioned way without using epoxy. Driving the tang into the hole of the handle is usually enough to keep everything together by way of friction/compression. Well done. Beautiful result 😊
Nice to hear that! Absolutely, I prefer this way. It took me some time to learn to get it right. It is a thin line between too tight (handle crack) and too loose (low friction). Thank you kindly sir 🙏

I have heard that the old way was to warm up the file/chisel part that goes into the handle to almost glowing, so it burns it's profile into the wood handle. Just have to be careful with hardened tools, as you don't want to lose that hardness.
Of course, you still predrill a hole in the wood, it's just to get the perfect fit.

Where have you been? Totally admire your skill set. Watch many restoration videos on TH-cam. Be it engines , wood, metal whatever material. What I find so interesting and beautiful is the use of the old ways, before steam and electricity. The water wheel yes but the engineered old machines you have resurrected and use brilliant . The gouges and the gauges. Just man power 👍
