    I'm not interested in any of these anymore (I've had multiple Submariners nad Black Bays in the past) so I try to be as objective as possible. Blue Tudor, after getting rid of these gold accents in original 58, is now a direct competitor to Sub in my opinion. Both look sharp, crispy and contemporary. And I think that Tudor is just... better looking watch. In every aspect.... I understand why people go for Sub, there is so many reasons. But if I had to choose one, ignoring all the hype and value retention, just looking at the watch itself, I would go for blue BB58, even if both were at the same price.

    • @arghjayem
      @arghjayem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      mwojciak I’d wouldn’t go for either. Sub is overrated, I prefer my 16600 seadweller. As for the Tudor, it’s a nice watch with an interesting vintage look, but because of that it isn’t as practical as the sub....but the real Tudor successor or competitor to the Rolex Submariner is the Pelagos. It’s truer to the spirit of the Submariner which was designed as a tool watch to be used and abused.
      If Tudor made the Pelagos in a slightly smaller size whilst retaining its depth rating and all its feature, it would surpass and out sell all the blackbays and would draw far more people away from Rolex sports watches. But for some reason Tudor seem to be solely focused on their Blackbay range rather than developing the Pelagos any further. Which is a real shame.

    • @mwojciak
      @mwojciak 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@arghjayem I tottaly agree. I love Pelagos, especially ETA version. and I have one :) In my opinion it is the ultimate no-nonsense tool watch, the only true Submariner of these days.

      I am loving my blue bb 58. I agree this you completely and the color really seals the deal for me. Sure, people can say it is just another blue watch, but specifically navy blue watches are hard to find on the market. I am confident this will become a collectible in the future. The sub has the date option and the better bracelet with micro-adjust.

    • @jaceprovo
      @jaceprovo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t really have a comment on the Blackbay as it doesn’t really interest me. But I absolutely love my Pelagos. I have owned most iterations of Rolex. The Pelagos seems to hit it directly on the head. I have the left-hand drive version and it is meant to be abused.

    Great review, amazing shots, many thanks Hafiz:) Nice opening words, couldn't have said better my self, just a tiny bit to add. The journey of watch collecting over time will develop and make preferences more and more specific. We begin by buying almost anything we come across and at some point look for a specific piece, the one our preferences printed in our minds. Not taking in mind all what you said in the opening. Watch collecting in my mind is buying what our preferences dictate, not the trend and not just a collectible which might not meet our standards/criteria. Thanks again for the review, and keep on enjoying watches, making great vids in good health.

    Excellent comparison. Great job at describing how different the size of the two watches are besides what is on paper. It would be interesting to compare the new 41mm sub to the bb58 though. concise and comprehensive as always. if i may provide my own owner experience, the hulk and the black BB58 have distinctive charms. the rolex occupies much more wrist real estate and is clinical and sharp in finish whilst the tudor is svelte, warm and soft oozing vintage appeal. pragmatically, the soaring rise in hulk value means i will wear it less than the BB58, which is a great daily beater.

Notwithstanding the historical relations between Rolex and Tudor, hour markers, hands and even the wordings on the dial look similar. What separates them is simply the affordability and availability of these watches.

    Great perspective video! Heft and bezel feel are the two differentiators for me. The Sub has much better heft on the wrist and the bezel clicks are like butter. The Tudor feels like a much less substantial watch. Rotating the bezel feels like skin will rip (I’m sure it’s because I’ve only tried on new Tudors...at least that is what the ADs always say). I would buy one for my sons although. Love your content.

    Very nice video - I am currently torn because my AD has offered my a black bay 58 in either color or a Black Bay GMT. They did say I can wait a full 6 months or more for a sub but I feel that they likely wouldn't sell me one until I purchase a different watch from them first. Would it be overly duplicative to go with the blue BB58 and then have a black sub down the line? The BBGMT would provide a nice variety but with a 6.3 inch wrist and the rumors that next year will bring a BB58GMT, part of me thinks it would be foolish buy. I have been wracking my brain for well over a month - any advice or opinions are helpful!

  • @andywilliams4887

    I very recently bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've owned for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex in the absolute quality stakes - why should it be when barely 40% of the steel Sub's price - go to an AD and try one on. COSC certified movement, 70hrs power reserve and great lume. You won't be disappointed

Although its design is not original this is arguably one of the best watches you can get for that price (and even higher) price at the moment. It looks good and the quality is also very good.

    Put a ceramic bezel on that Black Bay and glide-lock style clasp and I will take it any day looks-wise over no-date Sub

    go for rolex if you can. no matter you have black bay or not, you still will buy a submariner
    eventually.

      Not necessarily. Some people prefer the looks of the Black Bay to the Submariner. Others like the Submariner, but don't want the stigma that goes with wearing a Rolex watch.

      I literally just did that. I love the 58 so much but the goal was always Rolex.

    Lug to lug on the Sub is not 49mm. It’s just under 48. I’ve owned both and the 58 won for me, that’s before the newest sub just came out though. I’ll be picking up another submariner, but the BB58 is astonishing at this price point and the only thing the Sub really had on it was 100m more water resistance and the glide lock clasp.

      Many thanks. Yeah, I clearly need to measure the lugs again. Thanks again for correction.

    Good comparison. Always like tudor diver watch. But never to pull the triger. Why? Just look at this comparison. Imo there is no contest at all. But the problem is that the subs is only exist in wonderland

    Went to an AD which had both new sub date and bb58 blue in store.. (crazy!) going back tomorrow morning to hopefully pick one of them up. The sub just looks so much better in person when standing next to the bb58, but i am thinking whether the sub is really worth 5k euro more. Investment wise yes but judging purely on watch spec, not so sure! What do you guys think?

      Here’s how you can get the BB58 for free: buy the Rolex, sell, make $10k profit then use $4k to buy the BB58 and $6k to go on vacation! Good luck buddy

    you correctly pointed out the two aspects of the current submariner that bother me -- 1) supercase kind of reminds me of the Seiko turtle case. Both ugly in comparison to the regular case Rolex used to use. 2) non contoured case/lug shape. For smaller and regular wrists, lets say 7.75" and smaller, the lugs stick out and leave space between lug and wrist. For large wrists this isn't an issue. It seems the lack of contour of the maxicase is only suited to maxi wrists. The BB58 lugs curve down and hug the wrist in a much more ergonomic way. It's almost like the maxicase is crude and bloated... don't know why Rolex changed to it. Rolex' Daytona case fits my wrist (7") better as it is more curved and very similar to the shape of the BB58 case.

    Brilliant, the bb 48 blue is absolutely stunning!
    But, like a wise man once said, never buy a Tudor in hopes of covering your dreams of owning a Rolex. You’ll never be happy with it then
    Buy the Tudor for what it is

      I really like the Tudor blue pelagos and Harrods black bay but rightly or wrongly I think deep down I’d always feel like it’s not a Rolex. I know you wear a watch for yourself and not other people but I just have a sneaking suspicion that I’d not be content with the Tudor in the long term
