You should get respect automatically as a human being. We can’t wait around for someone else to be respectful first. And it’s a test of character how we deal with someone who is disrespectful to us. So let’s not mistake respect for obedience.
Now Carol… she is very disrespectful, and she’s the sort who immediately withholds respect when she doesn’t get her way. The cops remained respectful. You can be respectful while still doing something someone else doesn’t like, if what you’re doing is lawful and right.
So yeah, you really don’t have to give respect to get it. But you can certainly lose it pretty dang fast.

I occasionally asked McDonald's for a Neopolitan layered milkshake -- a third strawberry, a third chocolate, a third vanilla. They said they couldn't do it. My thought was of course they can -- but they didn't have to and that was fine with me. They are a fast food place. They have a standardized menu. Imagine all the variations people could ask for on just milkshakes -- half this and half that, the order of layers, split the flavors into thirds, mix them up or don't mix them, etc. In the meantime everyone behind in the line is waiting. Then some whiner might get one with the chocolate on top and throw a fit saying they wanted the chocolate on the bottom. Sometimes fast food chains and restaurants can be flexible, but on some things they have to consider their menu, their costs, their supplies, their employees' time, and all the other customers. There's a limit to "having it your way."

Carol needs to be locked up for a few days, in a real jail. Her behavior is appalling. Her entitlement is obvious. I feel sorry for her family and her church for having to see her display this kind of behavior. And, if her son really is a state trooper, he needs to correctly inform her of the law because she obviously has no clue what the law is.
Carol asked to be arrested when she refused to leave the restaurant. Then she kept saying "you treat a woman like this?" She may be a woman, but definitely not a lady. I hope she sobered up and realized how bad she embarrassed herself. I also wonder if her son is really a law enforcement officer...if that is true she would never had behaved like that. My son is a police officer and I would NEVER act like that to any officer!

You guys are being a bit harsh. She's an older lady that has never been in trouble with police. She seems very sheltered which is not really her fault. I kinda feel bad for her bcuz she genuinely seems to be very scared and was traumatized by the search for some reason. Not all people are the same, but I don't think she an awful person and she's definitely not a danger to society. There was no victim so, arresting her did no good for society.
