    If you want to drift in an automatic, dont put the car in sport+. Put the car in sport, hold TC button till DSC OFF, put the car in manual and shift down once so it ll be locked in gear (second gear is the best in my opinion).

    • @ManeMtb
      @ManeMtb 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      But if you are in Sport, as soon as you DSC OFF doesn't it "exit" sport mode and goes back to Comfort - at least gas peddal feels like that. 🤔

      @@ManeMtb yes, if you want to drift DSC off is the best, sport+ is for when you want to aggressively accelerate without the dsc cutting the power but it doesnt let you slide

  • @ericsson_motorsports
    @ericsson_motorsports 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    While it's true that these have an open diff, BMWs do still try to get some of the effect of an LSD even in their open diff cars by automatically applying the brakes on the wheel that spins up (even with DSC off). It's not perfect and if you took it to a drift event you'd burn through brake pads but it allows you to hoon around much better than an "unassisted" open diff. It's been a thing on the 3 series since the LCI E90 days as far as I'm aware

      @@jimdcars Automatic is smoother, but the manual has better acceleration because gearing is better suited for the amount of power.

      @@imnota I doubt manual has better acceleration, the 8 speed is always in the power band due to the amount of gears it has. And no matter how quick you shift the automatic will beat you.

      Look at the official numbers from BMW.
      Not trying to have a debate, it's facts.
      2012 320d auto :
      0-100=7.6s
      0-1000m=28.7s
      2012 320d 6 speed manual :
      0-100=7.5s
      0-1000m=27.7s
      Not a big difference, but I never said it was, I literally said it came down to driver's preference, because the difference is not big enough to justify getting one or the other based on how fast it is.
      And honestly the manual numbers probably are even better irl as there's no way the guy at the factory testing the car bangs gears like most bmw drivers actually do 😂
      The automatic versions purposefully have longer gearing to make it smoother and feel more luxurious, however with only 180hp longer gearing affects performance.
      And I can tell you from experience the manual feels like it pulls much harder than the auto, not only because it IS slightly faster, but also because the shifting makes it seem faster, whereas a smooth slushbox numbs the acceleration sensation.
      But let's be honest, yes the automatic shifts faster than a manual and if it had similar gearing to the manual it would be faster, however that ain't the case.

      I had an E90 330D in the past. It doesn’t match the torque output of the 6 cylinder engine but at £400-£500 for a decent map it really doesn’t put you a million miles away.

    Hi nice vid! Everytime i press the dsc button whilst beeing in Sport plus, my 320D goes into „Traction Mode“. I got a facelift model, does that explain Why my dsc is never fully off?

    • @jimdcars
      @jimdcars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks dude! You have to hold the traction button for a few seconds and it will say DSC off, where as in sport + you have ‘dynamic traction’ which is basically still on if you ask me. I have found as well that whatever mode you’re in, the throttle response and gearing goes back to comfort mode when you turn the DSC completely off (I think that’s what you mean when you say it goes to ‘traction mode’?) which is annoying, I’m sure you can code it otherwise but I haven’t don’t that. Hope this helps 🙂

    I was doing some drift with my F31 328i, I also put traction control off, but something annoying is that it can't be in sport mode so I also put it in manual to have some more revs without needing to have the throttle open first. Anyone got more tips on settings?

    • @olehmisko389

      I just put it in Sport Plus, transmission into Sport (if you have restyle F-series you could just move it to the left when it's in Drive, it would allow you to put it in Manual or Sport Automatic) and then DSC off. Works like a charm when it snows, but I am still to learn how to do that on a less slippery road. Also, I have the same size of tires since my car is AWD by default (I just use xDelete)

    Impressive to see how well it works without an lsd (I have a f31 330d and it’s all too easy to get things going if you’re very violent with it but if your more subtle in approach ie existing a roundabout it can sometimes find itself producing one wheel fire ).
    Modes on the car are an interesting one as I like the snappiness of the clutches when the cars in sport+ and the throttle sensitivity but I can’t keep the steering in comfort (like you can with an m car....all separate options) and as you state the TC isn’t fully off.....so you have to just turn off in with traction button but forget the driver modes which is a shame.
    Lastly, mine is also the automatic, do you ever feel that the car also does its own thing regards slipping the clutch at times (if I could of had a manual I would), just hate the idea of the car trying to interfere with my driving.
    Other than that I love my car but I’m keen to see how your experience matches up? Thanks Will

    • @jimdcars
      @jimdcars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is annoying that you can’t have sport + throttle response with traction completely off. I think the adaptive steering is an option (which I don’t have) for non M cars. If it’s dry I find you get the one wheel spinning but on a wet/loose surface it’ll slide quite nicely if you get the power on from almost a stand still, but if you’re say half way round a counter and slam the power on it’ll suddenly lose grip and you’ll have to be quick to catch it! As for the clutch I find it’s can sometime be more responsive at times but mostly it’s fine for me
