I personally think that the main difference is that he now is more comfortable with the camera. He had all that inside him all the time. That's a fact, just to be beside Chris I think.
Brilliant. Love how Matthew brought the client back around to revisiting the "original goals of the project". Priceless...to see the pros address these types of issues in a hands-on way. Thanks so much!
"Wow logo" made me cry laughing. Because oh jeez. The number of times a client has done some version of this to me for web designs... right in the feels.
Perhaps I'm just a love time "fan"/subscriber, but I keep hearing the Master's voice (Chris Do) in all of your speech and cadence. And this isn't a problem! I love it, it's successful and I continue to work at being better. Thank you all for your generosity.
Client: Look at this idea is I came up with! let’s do this instead. Graphic Designer: *Pulls out money bag* Client: *throws out idea* nvm. Let’s keep going! Graphic Designer: 😎
I would've changed "If that's something you can stomach" to "if that's something you can *justify* " as it seems to sit better with clients. Otherwise, this approach seems great!
Excellent role play guys, thanks. Matthew, not one cringe! Awesome! 😄 This is something that comes up a lot. Logo design tends to open up the latent designer in everyone! TY
0:24 World of Warcraft Logo done by a toddler. It's a dragon! BUT little do you know... that toddler is... BEN BURN's son! There's talent running in the family baby!
More videos like this, 5 stars! What do you say to clients you’ve done a few jobs for that constantly call you up asking for petty things like “we changed our packaging can you resize this real quick” or “we realized we don’t have this color in stock can you just delete that color palette from the catalog?” - all these things take less than 2min to do but it’s starting to add up... I sent one client a link to fiverr and never heard from him again. How would you handle it?
This is sound advice. However, I have a question. Supposedly the client is adamant about the design. And still will pay to change the one which you design for them all that week. To their own they just drew. Also suppose you like their design as a graphic designer? Would you admit that?

I think the idea here is to value your work and time. Even if the client doesn't like the solution you came with, you still had put the hours into it. So you need to be paid nonetheless. (All this assuming you are a professional designer, and your solution is correct from a design standpoint).
But what if the client gave you the sketch at the beginning and ask to not to worry with any research at all, but you should instead follow the direction of their sketch and charge them less than you normally charge since they've made the work easier for you. what would you recommend?
O.o? Chris Do has hair, goatee moustache? lol, Matthew, you responded like Chris Do there. As for that Logo, sometimes customers seem to want to do something that is more involved, anything that they emotionally attached and always at the last minute too. That design, it might be similar to an existing logo, or child's book character which might be challenged at a later date. As a design company, your name is attached to it too. Maybe a few questions more as does he have children, or had (could be a past child's favorite book) or do a search on copyright/TM? Maybe since the project is almost finished. I would've loved to see the signed off logo/branding to help to decide? Sorry I type too much but trying to see if that's really what the customer wants or did he eat a mouldy bagel this morning? Good video, lots to chew on. er pardon the pun.
But what if you think that new logo they presented is not going to solve their problem, that is so awful that would actually hurt them, would you still not say anything? Because that would be more than just your personal taste. They hired you to solve their problem, would you not challenge their poor decision?
Matthew Encina true but this situation happened to me when a payment and order was made. He then changed his mind about the wallpaper design he wanted when it was already printed, I told him it was too late but he became threatening.. turned out his sun was doing emails and translating on his behalf, it pisses me off because literally 90% of my customers don’t speak good English so I can’t just turn them all down
Isn't it project suicide (and contradictory to positioning oneself as expert) to allow the client to sabotage the project with poor judgment? It's my personal approach to be straight up with my clients and tell them when their ish stinks :). I suspect there's no absolute correct answer in this scenario, but more about finding your own true north - whether that means rejecting the clients crappy idea like Mutombo or letting them choose their own adventure.
Matthew Encina right, if it solves the business problem, absolutely. But what if the logo is hideous and in your estimation doesn't solve the problem, but the client is adamant about using it?
Role play when a client demand change w no feedback towards why and have them escalate their tone of voice if you challenge them. This video is nice but it’s too fluffy perfect world. Make it more real world scenario.
still.... i think this is all a bit like theater rehearsal... almost the entire channel is like this. yeh i know you're good. but you teach theater.. which seems to work, i admit.
@@MatthewEncina understand.. it's just like they're teaching 'they say A, you say B.' business works that way sometimes, i agree.. but it is a bit like poker.. no YOU tell me what cards you got.. make HIM say the price first... this has zero to do with design. i find this a bit shallow, but i'm sure it brings home the money for some.
"They're not paying me to be an artist, they're paying me to be a designer, a problem solver" 👏
This whole channel is pure gold.
It's crazy seeing Ben evolve from when I first saw him on the show, seriously.
We all evolve.
I personally think that the main difference is that he now is more comfortable with the camera. He had all that inside him all the time. That's a fact, just to be beside Chris I think.
“Not paid for a portfolio piece” This advice is great specially when as designers we can’t separate ourselves from what we’re asked to do.
Brilliant. Love how Matthew brought the client back around to revisiting the "original goals of the project". Priceless...to see the pros address these types of issues in a hands-on way. Thanks so much!
This is definitely work when we have the higher ground, where we have not any mis-steps along the way.
This is great. Giving me a good idea how to approach these types of common scenarios with my client. Its just solid communication and transparency.
"Wow logo" made me cry laughing.
Because oh jeez. The number of times a client has done some version of this to me for web designs... right in the feels.

That was a beautifully balanced, but powerful response Matthew...
Very nice
Client: Look at this idea is I came up with! let’s do this instead.
Graphic Designer: *Pulls out money bag*
Client: *throws out idea* nvm. Let’s keep going!
Graphic Designer: 😎
let's clarify, "Pulls out an EMPTY money bag"
A lovely reminder that I am giving design solutions and not being Rembrandt. Thanks
Im a web dev and this is a good insight
I would've changed
"If that's something you can stomach" to "if that's something you can *justify* " as it seems to sit better with clients.
Otherwise, this approach seems great!
Already watched this on FB but still liked! 👍🏼
I was looking for something else on the channel & found this. I absolutely love anything Matt does. Once again, excellent & he helped me.
Glad you enjoy it!
Excellent role play guys, thanks. Matthew, not one cringe! Awesome! 😄 This is something that comes up a lot. Logo design tends to open up the latent designer in everyone! TY
I didn’t see it. #pokerface 😁
I LOVE Matthew!!!!!
Has a bit of a Trogdor vibe. I dig it.
Thank you for this, perfect timing. Tremendously helpful, as always.
Love this .. great advice as always. Good work and thank you for sharing.
Great play. Do some more but maybe the client changes direction mid way or asks for something not impossible but unexpected
Great video. I love the client roleplays. Definitely learn and glean a lot of information from them.
Would love to see more client roleplays!
Wow. This is tremendously helpful!
Thanks for this funny but oh so real role play. The download is very helpful too as it cover other scenarios.
How many revisions do you offer before charging for further revisions? Love the channel :)
Great video guys, you're always pushing the boundaries and giving Value content for us designers :)
Been waiting for this video a while now, thanks!

Wow! This is so real!
Does anyone know where to download the "Client Communication Scripts"? Looks like they have been taken down from the resources page.
LMAO WOW LOGO!! Great one guys!
Thank you.
this is so helpful, now I need to write an email ahahah

WOW Logo is better than 99% of logos clients actually come up with.
Excellent video.
Awesome!
enlightening
Thanks!

Love it guys
role plays 💪
What do we do when the client wants to revive the whole brief but doesn't want to pay more
Every. Single. Day.
more of this

Helena Holm you would make a recommendation once you synthesize your full thoughts on the situation.
In the end we’re happy to spend the clients money how they decide to in the end.
Oh Ben lol 😂 nice try
What is a client asks to chgange the logo after 2 months?
2 months after delivery? that's called a new job.
Value value value 😭😭
question, what if the client dosnt let you finish, not listen and does not speak very good English?
