    We'll call this a VLOG since all I am doing here is exploring and trying
    to figure out what is up with the footwell floor heater vents. I found out why
    they don't open properly even though the climate control works fine. I also
    provide basic instruction on disassembling the center part of the center dash housing the climate control. (I removed the two bolts holding the climate control button assembly. You don't need to remove them completely - just loosen them.) Remember to disconnect your battery before doing anything like this.

    This video is so helpful. I'm just digging into my 88' 420 SEL W126 where I have no floor air and I want it!

    Larry here, if you ever want to fix the driver's side footwell hinged arm to flap door let me know. it is a PITA but makes a world of difference in comfort. The hinge on the door flap has a nipple that breaks/wears. I used jb weld ( the normal steel stuff) to add to the hole on the hinged arm side, then you actuate the door a bit after it starts to set so that as it hardens later, you've created a rebuilt moveable connector assembly. You will add to your vocabulary for sure.... but these 300sd's are worth it. A hooked screw, fishing line and dowel are also employed....some fun.

    Two really common problems with 126 Mercedes… No airflow through the center events or through the floor vents. I suffered from both with my SEC when I first got it.

      Everything about the climate control in this car works perfectly except the floor vents. Kinda frustrating but I'd rather move back to the engine and finish sorting everything under the hood first.

    Dont take the bolts all the way out. Just loosen enough to slide the ccc out. Prevents dropping the bolts into never never land.

    Be careful removing. Those oil cooler lines they can crink/bend the lines... Make sure you're careful.

      @@ImpalamansGarage actually I guess it won't matter because you're replacing them. What I should say is be careful putting the new one on and don't strip it I strip mine before in my younger days... I've been had to replace the oil cooler :(

      @@MrJohnnyblazed I hear you. People often confuse the term "compression fitting" with "let me get this on there as tight as I can". This lower line is leaking from the rubber to hard line junction end near the cooler surprisingly. It actually looks like it was replaced by someone in the last few years. Does not look original. I have found some cheap parts in this car along the way. My guess is that line is an el-cheapo but I've not looked at it closely yet. We'll see.

      @@ImpalamansGarage just a heads up the oil filter housing is a leaking Bandit as well.. hopefully it's not that... if it is that you'll have to remove the oil cooler lines again...

    Any idea what the part # is for this actuator? i'm not getting any airflow down to the floor in my wife's 1984 300SD, thanks

      Not off hand but to be honest, if you suspect yours is bad I'd call this company. Apparently they sell rebuild kits for these vacuum pods. www.perfanalysis.com/climate-control/acc-version-ii/

    Where is the actual heater box in this car? I have NO HEAT at all in the cabin. I did a core flush and I'm pretty sure there is coolant flow but I think the flap on the heater box is closed.

    • @ImpalamansGarage
      @ImpalamansGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A common "no heat" issue on these cars is a failed mono valve. I'd check that first if you have not already.

    I just stumbled across your channel trying to find the recirculation flap not switching to cabin stays on sucking air from the outside where is the location or the vacuum line and the actuator for that flap The light goes on when I turn it to recirculation but still draws air from outside if you could help thank you

      Factory Service Manual says:
      Fresh/In-Car Air Flap Vacuum Elements Location: On Plenum to right of the center outlet.
      What this means: They are behind the glove box. Take out the glove box liner.
      There are two vac pods there next to each other. There is one a few
      inches to the left of these two. It is for the Defroster.

    I'd rather break rocks all day than work on, under and in the dash of any car. I have had to do it on several cars. Not fun!
    My Peugeot had fiber optics from one bulb to all the switches and things in the dash. I thought of it as the starship Enterprise. Lol

    • @nancygrabow7781
      @nancygrabow7781 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Larry here, the 300sd has an "octopus" connector for fiber optics to the toggle switches. I don't remember now because it might in actuality be a squid because there may be only 6 fiber optic lines. Actually quite advanced for the time;;; but dim. My brother had a peugeot, When he went to sell it nobody knew what car it was (i. e. it wasn't a Ford or Chevy), because this was in uhum......Tennessee.

      @@nancygrabow7781 that's funny Nancy. I'm sure his was the first one there. I used to see tons of them in San Diego and there were even shops that specialized in them. I don't remember seeing a single one here in Vegas in the last 10 years I've been here.
      I loved the mechanicals of that car and the way it drove, except the little turbodiesel was way underpowered.
      I guess the fiber optics was a thing in the 80s but not used anymore.
