Culture is important. Everything relates to culture. Wars are fought based on culture. War itself is based on culture. Do we value peace or do we have a culture where all solutions to conflicts are solved through military intervention?
Do we have a culture of respecting individuals and their autonomy or are they just mindless bricks in the wall? Can people make decisions for themselves, even bad decisions, or do they need a paternalistic government mandating everything and worrying about “messaging” as if the population is a bunch of kindergarteners.
Do we have a culture of minding our own business, or do we need to report friends and neighbors and small businesses for not following mandates? Covid isn’t the last “emergency” we’ll have.
I could go on and on, but separating policy from culture is misguided. Culture is everything!
