It is not necessarily "ingratitude", and instead there are many reasons to why they might say these things. It'd be boring if anyone would express things or feelings the same way, wouldn't it? Though, I would like to mention that this does not mean I am saying that he does not have insecurities. He might as well say these things because he does underestimate his strength, whether it is influenced from his mental insecurities as mentioned in the video, other people, his goals or wherever else. After all, he did mention how people might look at him and be unimpressed solely due to his height despite his strength and physique, and it can easily be speculated that people likely have caused insecurities to him, unless he has been able to suppress those and he just has a very humble way of talking and thinking or perhaps even an attempt for more objective thinking to perhaps suppress his mental insecurities or even other people's subjective opinions in a way or as a defense-mechanism. Perhaps even a mix of all. Regardless, I would like to say that in general, that I am in agreement that it is polite to say thank you to a compliment (although I do not believe it was necessarily intended to be disrespectful and do not believe it necessarily showed ingratitude), but the way we talk and think are so much influenced by our environment that something like this is very vague. @salvadorromero9712 I agree with you but while I am not 5'3 or short, there were very few times growing up where I was accepted as an equal or even treated like a person. I was bullied by everyone and put down a lot. Anytime someone says something nice to me or compliments me to this day at 38 years old, I still begin to disagree or correct them for them thinking that way. It isn't intentionally and I have gotten a lot better at saying thank you. But for me at least, it is due to a lot of trauma. It might be the case with him as well. @@themayomonster.That's exactly it. Sam has trauma from years of having his very hard work and amazing accomplishments be treated as if they are nothing. It is easy to believe those who speak with such force when they throw insults our way, especially if there is some truth in it. Thankfully the world isn't black/white, it is shades of grey and Sam has many huge disadvantages that make up for the ROM excuse.
People are so dumb when they reduce it to ROM. Dude can't hold much skeletal muscle mass and recruit as many strength units, which is a HUGE disadvantage that far outweighs the lEvErAgEs, and he is STILL a beast.
It may be that this kind of attitude motivates him go get even stronger. Probably not the best thing from a psychological point of view, but well, shit happens.
People saying he benches big because of shorter range of motion are jealous. Smaller people really just can lift heavier sometimes, and this dude worked his ass off. There's no need to put down his achievements. A definite monster of a lifter.
Yea just having favourable levers doesnt guarantee the lift, im decently built for deads but im not a 7 plate deadlifter, likewise my long arms make my bench ROM alot longer than most, im still benching though and have hit 2 plates with ease, so yea genetics are a thing but work and dedication is where most of it comes from, also mans 115 pressing 3 plates thats insane no matter the arm length, itd be like my mum just casually pressing 225 and dropping the mic, undeniably impressive.
5'3" here. I also have genes that gave me really good aesthetics and make it easy to put on muscle. And I have never understood these campaigns like "stop underestimating and disrespecting the work put in by manlets or the genetically gifted or whatever." Maybe I have a heart of stone but yeah it doesn't bleed much for people in my position. When people remark on my luck and gifts I just take it as a compliment and a chance to put my perspective on my own accomplishments in check. Yeah if you are obviously gifted (in physique or anything else) people will underestimate the work you put in. Boo hoo. It beats the alternative. Stop being ungrateful. If people assume you are coasting because you make it look easy, just react by: learning the valuable lesson that ultimately _you_ have to know _yourself_ and that you are being true to your own values and potential and not being spoiled; and by letting others' underestimation of you spur you to work that much harder to dispel all doubts. Even if you never do, the result will be that you showed proper gratitude for your gifts by not wasting them and working to have take you as far as they can. Rather than spending that energy grumbling about resentment from the less fortunate. Please.
its not dowing is achiment having a shorter range is a advantage. being taller matters more in say bodybuilding. limb length matters more than hight. pros of being tall more room to put on muscle. negative harder to look more compact. benifits of being shorter muscle pop more, rom advantage
@@salvadorromero9712 Exactly, its a shame that alot of people cant handle seeing people with superior ability without getting jealous and angry, ive done it myself near the start of starting lifting, but now i remind myself that we all have different starting points, genetics, mindsets and environments that we deal with, i wish i was 20kg lighter with 10kg more muscle, but i know that jealousy wont help me achieve that, eating clean and making sure i hit the gym and do cardio will, and i can do all this without any external influence, so what good does it do to compare myself to someone like david laid for example who has the opposite start of me, or to complain im not as strong as a gifted powerlifter, instead can say my bench went from 40kg with shit form to 105kg with decent form, while ive lost 50kg of fat, suddenly it sounds alot more impressive and puts it into perspective that ive made a massive change, despite the fact that externally i look pretty average.

@sagnorm1863 Exactly. People seem to think RoM is absolute, but it's relative. It's not a fixed distance that's the same between different people, it's a percentage of one's individual capabilities. That's what makes this that much more impressive.

He seems nice otherwise, it is unfortunate that he would feel like less than others when he is so strong and smart.

I also get a lot of crap from guys who are 5'7''/5'8'' with arms a foot shorter than mine when I can't put up their numbers. Everyones body is different. Ppl could make the same arguments all over the place, he just sticks out visually so its more front of mind to ppl. Like im 5'10" with a +4.5" ape index. That doesnt make my sends invalid if i can skip a hold because of my reach, nor does my bench press come with a 1.1x multiplayer to counter the extra distance lifted. Just go out there and do the best you can with what you got. Lifes too brief to worry about all that BS.

Also, who cares, he lifts.
He is literally at a disadvantage. People just can't accept that a dwarf can lift more than them.

Probably not the best thing from a psychological point of view, but well, shit happens.
he is INCREDIBLY chill, incredible vibes
People saying he benches big because of shorter range of motion are jealous. I mean yes he has a shorter range of motion but he has a significantly small frame too, just compare his pecs, shoulders, and triceps with Will's and you can see they are tiny.
@@salvadorromero9712 Exactly, its a shame that alot of people cant handle seeing people with superior ability without getting jealous and angry, ive done it myself near the start of starting lifting, but now i remind myself that we all have different starting points, genetics, mindsets and environments that we deal with, i wish i was 20kg lighter with 10kg more muscle, but i know that jealousy wont help me achieve that, eating clean and making sure i hit the gym and do cardio will, and i can do all this without any external influence, so what good does it do to compare myself to someone like david laid for example who has the opposite start of me, or to complain im not as strong as a gifted powerlifter, instead can say my bench went from 40kg with shit form to 105kg with decent form, while ive lost 50kg of fat, suddenly it sounds alot more impressive and puts it into perspective that ive made a massive change, despite the fact that externally i look pretty average.
yes he worked hard, yes its easier to bench more due to arm length. Just like people have deadlift specialty phsiques many have bench press physiques and its really just arm length for those. Have some decency and congratulate him for his accomplishments and the strength he is able to exert. What an absolute monstrosity of a dude! Keep it up Sam.
