Ngl, exactly how I felt the first and last time I took pre workout. I prefer to rawdog the gym. Sometimes if I really need extra energy ill have a cookie for some quick carbs.
Bro, I worked at GNC back around 2010... it's unreal what's allowed, or what was at least when I was engulfed in that worle. It's so crazy to me that they can make something new, have zero data on how it affects people and then only remove it from the shelves AFTER people get hurt or die. I can't tell you how many times a product would come out, people absolutely love it... then a year later it's removed because it caused internal bleeding and crap. To anyone reading, never assume something is safe just because it's on the shelf. AND just because something works, sometimes really well... doesn't mean it's worth it. Know what's in the things you consume. Take ownership of it.
That’s crazy I remember my friends taking 10 pills before a workout and I only tried it once after that I wanted just creatine cause it was the only thing I could trust.
The original jack3d was the reason I stopped taking preworkouts, that shit was so insane lol - the workouts were great but god it would last the rest of the night and I could never sleep, good times lmao
Your message at the end, does a lot of sense and is a call of awareness for everyone who goes to the gym for health but yet they are not doing anything about their sleep pattern and mental health that you need an extra substance to help you achieve what you can naturally do.
Most people that you find strength training aren't there for health, but to look better. If your muscles wouldn't grow and you would look exactly the same with or without strength training, 95% of people would not bother showing up.
I think the reason most people (including me) take pre before they train is not necessarily due to a lack of sleep, but more so due to the fatigue that's built up throughout a working day. My shifts are 12 hours long behind a desk (not 5 days a week but a more unique shift pattern) and I feel exhausted when I get home, but I enjoy lifitng so in order to actually get through 45 minutes of training I need a boost.

There was nothing like having zero motivation to train after a long day of college classes or work and throwing a couple scoops of that stuff in a shaker and sipping on it for the 15-20m drive to the gym. When you left your house you were dragging yourself into the gym through pure will power and by the time you got there and the pre-workout was in your system, the motivation was through the roof and training was no longer a chore, it was a necessary inevitability lol. It completely changed your frame of mind. Eventually though, I got sick of the intra-workout anxiety, dry mouth, racing heart, and Xplodes in the gym bathroom... This was before fitness trackers/watches, but I can't imagine where my heart rate was. These days it's just a small coffee/caffeine pill + a few caps of a basic L-Arginine/L-Citrulline combo. It's simple, quick, cheap, and effective. It gets the job done, but it's definitely not like the prior days of 2 scoops of OG NO-Xplode/Jack3d and having the feeling of wanting to run through a brick wall.

the original formula of NO-Xplode, in the early 2000s, it was something sent from the gods. I remember being 20, in 2005 and being cracked out of my mind in the gym. My body was the same color as the PWO container and I was doing cartwheels between sets. I miss that feeling!

Been gyming for over a decade, I look great compared to similar natties the gym and have never regularly taken pre-workout. It’s absolutely not necessary, the only supplement I think necessary for bodybuilding is obviously proper nutrition, protein through food don’t even need supplements for it.
Original NO Xplode and Super Pump 250 were wild. Make you want to rip your car apart on the way to the gym. You can't get those ingredients in the main stream pre's anymore.
I remember Ultimate Orange fondly. It was concocted by the famous Dan Duchaine and it is better than anything on the market today. The ephedra kick is what really made it work. The vast majority of people using Ultimate Orange had no problems with it. Duchaine also created the ECA stack of ephedra, caffiene, and aspirin which shed pounds as well as phen-phen. Too bad that meth heads got ephedra banned.

Hell yeah! I was still in high school still weighing 125-130lbs. End of the year I was around 165-170! I only took the original Jack3d around Twice a week whenever I felt too lazy to work out, it put my ass right back in gear.
Huge pop when I seen the Jack 3D. Pre workout is a holy ritual in this house. 3 huskies and a toddler and shiftwork. We love trying different pre workouts, and the gods used to give us the OG Jack 3D. Enjoyable video Will. Keep it up.
Great video bro... really helpful. I take "edge of insanity" and "Hyde extreme" I remember back in the day taking NO explode and "redline" when the formulas were just off the charts. Imma try jacked. Stay blessed and humble bro. 🤙
I used to take original DMAA jack3d, then run the 400m and 100m at high school track meets. Some people died taking it before running, but I guess I was just too anabolic for it to get me.
What I've learned over the years and what works best for myself us do your research on all ingredients, focus mainly on a handful that will give you better stamina, indurance, resulting in faster muscle recovery between sets allowing you to maximize your workouts. Pumps are great, and mental focus but honestly if you can get more out of your workout recovery during gym sessions you'll see a huge difference. To go from one set to the next, fully recovered each workout is awesome. Then again a lil extra caffeine for energy never hurts.
Contained N-Alpha-DEPEA , structurally very similar to methamphetamine . Milder effects though . Craze and excelsior are the strongest pre workouts ever , OG jack3d not fare behind
Ephedrine was legal until around 2005. My university sold pure Ephedrine at its' health center, 100 tabs for $5. I went to the University of Wisconsin, the third largest college in the country with 50,000+ students. Every guy I know was taking it. We took it to stay up to study and also to combat the effects of alcohol...you could drink a ton and not get tired. Women at my school took it to lose weight. The pure ephedrine melted weight and fat off of you. I knew girls in my dorm that lost 10-15 lbs. without working out. The stuff was amazing.
In The UK you can still get Pseudoephedrine from cold sinus tablets. A similar thing but I I'm not sure if you can get that in the US because people would make crystal meth from it
If it makes anyone feel better, Ive taken a preworkout since 2008 pretty much daily and Im 37 now and an endurance athlete. My hearts great, bloodpressure is 110/60 give or take. The original Jack3d is something Im glad they took off the market, but for a brief time everyone on active duty seemed to be taking it because it did exactly what people describe it as.
One of my biggest regrets as a young dude in the gym was about 12 years ago when I used to order pre workouts online (typically NO XPLODE) I would get samples from random companies. The one that fucked me up the most was "Muscletech" branded I'm not even sure it was a full serve, within 20 minutes, I had blood shot eyes, heart palpitations and probably the closest i've ever been to a full blown panick attack. the heart palpitations lasted for 8 hours. Look after yourselves
My favorite original recipe was SuperPump 250 (Gaspari). I’d take it at my desk, start flushing and I then my arms would swell like I just released a bunch of insulin. I had swollen veins and hadn’t even picked up a weight yet :). It was great. Then they changed it. Original BSN NOXplode was decent for me. Jack3D (again, original) was the only pre workout I ever threw away after the first try. Took at at the gym, worked out and left it at the gym. It turned my head into soup. Today’s market is not so fun, but there are a few good ones: Total War, Nitraflex, BuckedUp.
Amazing video mate, cheers. I'm on my 3rd year lifting some weights and never tried pre workout. I was having only coffee. In the last year I gave up coffee because I couldn't feel it anymore and now im going to the gym 5am after 8h of sleep and I feel amazing.
Stopping on rep 13?! Will … nooooo! Why not just walk under a ladder or walk through the woods of Transylvania on a moonlit night? Gave me more jitters than beta alanine
Anabolic Angel 10/10 I appreciate the science happening here. You are spot on about people using bandaids and crutches instead of changing factors they have more direct control over
Coffee def is one of the best natural pre-workout drinks u can have. I used to just take 8-10oz of espresso coffee no milk straight black and drink it all at once. You don't sip it like ur at Starbucks u down the whole thing lol. I usually also added few teaspoons of cane sugar to help with the bitterness of the black coffee
Dark Energy. It had both DMAA and DHAA. Only time in my life a pre workout affected me negatively ever. It’s now banned but iykyk. I liked this type of video! More than just workout, it was informative, historical, and combined with weightlifting I was in love and it kept me wanting more. Like my pre workout. Great video
Its not the job of the government to ban anything, rather to regulate and inform. But I do agree, it was the only time in my life I ever vomited from a preworkout.
The original Ultimate Orange has regular ephedra and you'd feel like you have endless energy with it, I remember taking it at 1pm, worked out and I did not go to sleep until 4am back in 1997. I also liked the original Jack3d back in 2009, and Craze was great for powerlifting training back in 2013.
Some of the Pre-workouts you mentioned I've tried and they are way too strong for me!! And when I think about the cost, regular coffee is still the best ! On a heavy cardio day I may try beetroot with some beta alanine! Excellent video! Thanks
The original Jack3d was the GOAT. Insane increase in motivation and strength with mere seconds of fatigue between sets. Felt like my arms, legs and back was about to burst from the pump aswell. Got the sweats in the locker room even before the workout. The crash that came after a few hours was no joke tho. I miss this PWO to this day!
For me, pre-workout is the equivalent of hype music. It’s just that little tingle and uptick of energy that tells my brain, “you’re about to go wreck some sh!t” No matter what my energy level WAS, it gets me back to a standardized level when I’m walking into the gym. But for real, good video. You made great points 👊🏼
The original Jack3d was incredible!! The focus and energy made me feel like i was superman in the gym. I knew it was bad for me when i used to take 2 scoops before i worked out but god damn it did i love it!! Haha!
Love your videos bro, you are definitely my fav fitness TH-camr. i use to drink pre workout but i rarely take it anymore as it makes me itchy and doesnt let me sleep. coffee throughout the day seems to work fine for now with creatine and vitamin tablets.
Doctor here, the Niacin did its job by a function called Vasodilation (dilating your blood vessels) thus giving you a better pump because of more blood flow from the dilation (also the reason for the redness on your face)
The way you explained jack at the end sounds a lot like how adderall makes me feel. Its not like caffeine which feels like spike spike spike. Its a first spike. Then a very consistent stable flow of energy. I take breaks from adderall. So i dont need to go up in dosage.
I had taken multiple boxes of original jack3d, back in 2007 and it was really strong back then. I had become a 97kg beast in one year. And yes I am still alive and healthy. Nowadays I have used lots of different pre-workouts and I can easily say they are for children. Nothing like the old Jack3d and old N1 formulas.
That stuff was awesome. It was not necessary for them to ban it. A very small number of people had a bad reaction to it. 5, or something like that, and several of them had known pre-existing conditions that should have precluded them from using it anyway.
Man those were the days. I remember feeling like a needed a damn cigarette when I took that stuff. I'd also go into a roid rage type of phase when it was kicking it. Wifey hated it lol
The only way to avoid it is to buy all the ingredient separate y and mix your own. Nevertheless, you can still write the manufacture and tell them that. It might interest you to know that removing the red dye has been tried and it was a dismal failure. Imagine drinking a crystal clear drink that taste like strawberries. It was a marketing failure.

I love the Swedish one called "Fucked up" with a horror movie clown on it only pre workout that makes me feel anything..
I'm now subscribing....I'm a trainer myself and usually most online guys don't try/test/talk about and review what we use, what's being done and how it affects us. this was a good vid. (sidenote OG jack3d....was GOLD!!!!)
These video essays that take us on a journey through time are my favorite!
Seeing NO Explode flooded me with so much nostalgia. All those 4 page ads in Muscle and Fitness for BSN.
Been gyming for over a decade, I look great compared to similar natties the gym and have never regularly taken pre-workout. It’s absolutely not necessary, the only supplement I think necessary for bodybuilding is obviously proper nutrition, protein through food don’t even need supplements for it.
Oh how I remember JACKED3D days and BSN Nos Xplode.
you can still get dmaa preworkout online btw
Original NO Xplode and Super Pump 250 were wild. Make you want to rip your car apart on the way to the gym. You can't get those ingredients in the main stream pre's anymore.
im there with you man, Old Jack3d was amazing. i didnt even know what DMAA was back then.
@@Natefirethemagnetsthat is actually spot on it was an insane feeling 🤣.
Yeah bro, Sony Xplod speakers were in every WalMart dawg
I remember Ultimate Orange fondly. It was concocted by the famous Dan Duchaine and it is better than anything on the market today. The ephedra kick is what really made it work. The vast majority of people using Ultimate Orange had no problems with it. Duchaine also created the ECA stack of ephedra, caffiene, and aspirin which shed pounds as well as phen-phen. Too bad that meth heads got ephedra banned.
“Coffee and cocaine, which I think is underapprecia- whatever…”😂😂😂. Will’s little slips and edits are the greatest there are on TH-cam. Also, can you do a video trying to do a day as a kosher keeping person? If you need details on how to do that, just reply to this.
Will, you have helped guide me through my fitness journey over the past couple of years. Thank you! Love your videos and cookbook ❤️
the best pumps of my life on the original jack3d.
Keep it up.
love how creative Will’s video ideas always are!!!
I agree there’s no like format or style it’s literally all over the place but it keeps you interested. He rarely repeats the same content .
Only pre workout a man needs is his mind
That ending chat he put at the end of the video was the icing on the cake for me. I agree with what he said completely 💯
Great to see the research in golden era and how it has evolved!
7:20 the person in the back on the treadmill is redoing an argument with someone in their head and absolutely killing it, 💯 attitude
He or she is back on it at 14:57
@@missylengi notified that too 😭

What I've learned over the years and what works best for myself us do your research on all ingredients, focus mainly on a handful that will give you better stamina, indurance, resulting in faster muscle recovery between sets allowing you to maximize your workouts. Pumps are great, and mental focus but honestly if you can get more out of your workout recovery during gym sessions you'll see a huge difference. To go from one set to the next, fully recovered each workout is awesome. Then again a lil extra caffeine for energy never hurts.
Anyone remember CRAZE by Driven Sports? That shit was WILD
The best!
Yes dude, craze was absolutely nuts 😂 so sad I probably won't be feeling like this ever again
That was the best ever
it was basically just amphethamine.
Contained N-Alpha-DEPEA , structurally very similar to methamphetamine . Milder effects though . Craze and excelsior are the strongest pre workouts ever , OG jack3d not fare behind
6:15 lmaooo that was a great edit
Lack of caffeine. Those old heads had cocaine
A similar thing but I I'm not sure if you can get that in the US because people would make crystal meth from it
@@172louisyou can still get it in the US, it’s just kept behind the counter at pharmacies. They check your ID before you buy it.
@@172louiswe can, it’s just behind the pharmacy counter and they ID you for it. But no RX required.
@@172louis you can still get pseudoephedrine in the US. I've never had a stimulant effect from it. Yet again I've never taken it when I wasn't sick.
You can still get straight ephedrine , just go grab some bronkaid or primatene tablets
"incognito mode when you live alone" now this hit different
If it makes anyone feel better, Ive taken a preworkout since 2008 pretty much daily and Im 37 now and an endurance athlete. My hearts great, bloodpressure is 110/60 give or take. The original Jack3d is something Im glad they took off the market, but for a brief time everyone on active duty seemed to be taking it because it did exactly what people describe it as.
Will…. that Johnny Sins reference had me dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The original formula of NO-Xplode was the game changer for me. I've been chasing that pump ever since
The new is not as effective ? . They get 2 more pre work out ?
Can’t forget about Ripped Fuel from the late 90’s. That and hydroxycut .
Pre workout makes me feel way worse
You just aren't doing the right ones. Try a non stim like gorilla mode nitric
@@bigboicremeOr just don't take any of that toxic shit
@@RafBeanah yes, all those toxic….vitamins
10:07 NO-explode have me a wicked headache when 15 year old me took a heaping scoop. It sent my ass running straight back into the arms of C4.
Amazing video mate, cheers. I'm on my 3rd year lifting some weights and never tried pre workout. I was having only coffee. In the last year I gave up coffee because I couldn't feel it anymore and now im going to the gym 5am after 8h of sleep and I feel amazing.
No need to change this thumbnail Will, very capturing.
OxyElite, Jack3d, and Mesomorph! So fucking powerful!
Babe wake up, Will Tennyson dropped a video!
The original Jack3D was insane
There is better on the market if you know where to look (:
@@Tailioniswhere!? Please share lol. I can order anabolics but not preworkout!
Shit had meth in it lmao

Gorilla mind has a good pwo.
But PEDs are obviously better.
@sheend I'm getting shadow banned mentioning it. Fitness deal news...dsslsdds yt ddddddd
Stopping on rep 13?! Will … nooooo! Why not just walk under a ladder or walk through the woods of Transylvania on a moonlit night? Gave me more jitters than beta alanine
Thanks for the everlasting advice Will, you've helped a lot in my fitness journey.
Best preworkout is a new Will video. About to hit a Push day 💪
Anabolic Angel 10/10
I appreciate the science happening here. You are spot on about people using bandaids and crutches instead of changing factors they have more direct control over
It’s my cheat day today and I love watching videos whilst eating. PERFECT TIMING 🍩🔥
When he was doing leg press his speech pace was crazy😂😂
The original Ultimate Orange has regular ephedra and you'd feel like you have endless energy with it, I remember taking it at 1pm, worked out and I did not go to sleep until 4am back in 1997. I also liked the original Jack3d back in 2009, and Craze was great for powerlifting training back in 2013.
And these days the special one is Excelsior pre workout
Some of the Pre-workouts you mentioned I've tried and they are way too strong for me!! And when I think about the cost, regular coffee is still the best ! On a heavy cardio day I may try beetroot with some beta alanine! Excellent video! Thanks
The message at the end is actually super important I love it
The original Jack3d was the GOAT. Insane increase in motivation and strength with mere seconds of fatigue between sets. Felt like my arms, legs and back was about to burst from the pump aswell. Got the sweats in the locker room even before the workout. The crash that came after a few hours was no joke tho. I miss this PWO to this day!
Yup. The most insane difference in my workouts was with Jack3d.
will always has such fun video ideas I wish he’d upload even more frequently tbh
I have covid bad right now and your videos keep me living brother much love from chicago
Is that still a thing these days?
@@isjdj3293 yeah bro different versions keep coming out lol it kicked my ass this time on my lungs but im recovering now thank god.
There was nothing like the early 2000s pre workouts. The original No-xplode made my arms feel like they'd literally explode. I, for one, loved it. 💥
😂 I don’t drink coffee or take pre workout, I just go training because I like it
Ya same plus im just lazy to make it
Good for you. But that won't always be the case.

@10:52 A little Gigi D'Agostino - L' Amour Toujours. That gym has good taste in music.
Hell yeah! Knew I couldn't be the only one to recognise it 😂
My pre workout is thoughts and prayers…
For me, pre-workout is the equivalent of hype music. It’s just that little tingle and uptick of energy that tells my brain, “you’re about to go wreck some sh!t” No matter what my energy level WAS, it gets me back to a standardized level when I’m walking into the gym. But for real, good video. You made great points 👊🏼
The original Jack3d was incredible!! The focus and energy made me feel like i was superman in the gym. I knew it was bad for me when i used to take 2 scoops before i worked out but god damn it did i love it!! Haha!
I take pre-work because I have to lift in the morning before work. It's very hard to have good energy that early in the morning without it
That's my reasoning/excuse too!
Same!
Probably means you have bad quality sleep and/or alot of stress.
Love your videos bro, you are definitely my fav fitness TH-camr. i use to drink pre workout but i rarely take it anymore as it makes me itchy and doesnt let me sleep. coffee throughout the day seems to work fine for now with creatine and vitamin tablets.
Doctor here, the Niacin did its job by a function called Vasodilation (dilating your blood vessels) thus giving you a better pump because of more blood flow from the dilation (also the reason for the redness on your face)
you have such a great personality, cant stop watching your videos! Thank you
Its the hair. Chicks like the hair.
The way you explained jack at the end sounds a lot like how adderall makes me feel. Its not like caffeine which feels like spike spike spike. Its a first spike. Then a very consistent stable flow of energy. I take breaks from adderall. So i dont need to go up in dosage.
Legal meth
@@RareAries323DMHA is more like legal Adderall. Not as good as DMAA but it you are new, you gonna like it
Bro, that Johnny Sins reference was hilarious
Will, you are getting big, my guy. You have put on a lot of mass in the 2 yrs I have been watching you. Good shit. Love the content.
Where my OGs who took the original Jack3d at?
That stuff was awesome. It was not necessary for them to ban it. A very small number of people had a bad reaction to it. 5, or something like that, and several of them had known pre-existing conditions that should have precluded them from using it anyway.
Jacked craze and the og mesomorph were good and napalm
@@Frank_Jones314it’s still a thing it just doesn’t have some of the stuff it used to I think
@@Luke-ig3wf purple craze was basically adderall hahaha
Man those were the days. I remember feeling like a needed a damn cigarette when I took that stuff. I'd also go into a roid rage type of phase when it was kicking it. Wifey hated it lol
Should have tried the Mike Mentzer pre-workout
9:37 Red 40 is literally in everything, we avoid it as much as possible, but it's difficult to cut it out completely
