***** No, Sculptor's Cut definitely has to be better, because of extra characters and some new claytality's, although some claytality's are apparently taken out.
***** Oh, and I wish Interplay would just release their Dsiware remake of Sculptors Cut already. Screenshots of it were put in Nintendo Power and for a Wiiware re-realease of Descent! Neither one has come out or been officially cancelled, but probably are. P.S. Just looked for the page for the new Clayfighter and found out it's now coming for PC, maybe. Here's the page that list it in development for 2016: www.interplay.com/about/article.php?id=80
I loved this game too! I feel like people didn't get that this game was supposed to be a spoof & parody of beat 'em up games. It wasn't supposed to take itself seriously! Even as a kid I got that lol
Loved this game, Sculptors cut was better but trying to get a copy for the amount its listed is kind of ridiculous unless you get a copy cartridge. Growing up I played the hell out of this game and enjoyed it. Actually just purchased this game recently at a retro game store!
Just want to say great review and all your other reviews are awesome too! I love the background information and history you give for the games as it at times gives me an appreciation for the effort put in to games at times I might overlook. Also the information you give on optimal game settings defiantly helps when trying trying to decide between hires/low res on certain game for the best possible experience. I own most n64 classics but you have defiantly helped me get an idea on where to start filling in my collection with games I've looked over on the past. Keep up the good work!
I always appreciate the time you put into giving the background info on these games. Makes your reviews top-notch. Hoping for a Blu-Ray compilation when you finish them all! In alphabetical order, please! Hahahahaha!
it's no killer instinct but, it's a bit of goofy fun for a quick play. the original on SNES is the best of course and the Sculptors Cut version is the epitome of silliness in the collecting community
Clay Fighter 63 1/3 isn't a bad game, The N64s controller made it seem that way for obvious reasons. The controllers overall shape, button placement, and unresponsiveness is the reason why the N64 didn't have a whole lot of traditional 2D fighting games in its library, mainly because you had to rethink and design the entire formula of the game, which is why Super Smash Bros. was such a success is because it made use of the awkward controller. But unfortunately Clay Fighter wanted to be a traditional fighting game and the N64 would not let the players experience what the game was truly meant to be like. Over all, this game wasn't meant to be on the N64.
I had quite a lot of fun playing this as a kid also in multiplayer with friends. Despite the controls being bad it's still enjoyable to play. Sure it's not a great game but it's not nearly as bad as critics at the time made it out to be. It's leagues better than the likes of Carmageddon 64 and Superman imo.
I just played this the other day, as well as the special edition. I've never played any of the previous Clay Fighter games and honestly expected not to like them. However I DID like them. I even managed to play all the way through on normal difficulty using the pumpkin-headed character. I came close to losing a couple times, but just managed to eek out a victory. I'll admit that it's not a great game, but I found it fun, as well as the special edition. I even managed to do a couple of the special moves despite not having any idea what I was doing. :)
Not a bad game. Funny, light hearted, easy to pick up. How it got ran through the mud is very weird considering the absolute trash games that were also coming out at the time
I think a Clayfighter reboot could work. It would least be in good hands artistically, if they hired Lee Hardcastle of Claycat Doom fame to do the models and animation. If they started slow, and included only the original SNES characters, it could be a potential cult classic. And it would be hilarious if it was given deep mechanics that contrast with the cartoonish art design. Nothing as convoluted as Weaponlord's mechanics, but beyond basic button mashing.
I had this as a kid and I loved it, to be fair I was just mashing buttons as you said though! I was convinced there was a way to unlock Lockjaw and the Statue of Liberty characters as they were on the back of the box but it wasn’t to be! 😅
Despite the fact that I used to play the hell out of this game and still kind of like it, It's still an absolute mess of a fighting game, you were dead on when you mentioned button mashing, I've never played a game that rewarded braindead offense as much as this game. The 2d fighting on a 3d stage is a enormous problem that few people seem to notice as well, the geometry is completely different in every stage making it an opponent in and of itself. All that being said I think the reviewers blew it's badness WAY out of proportion. The pro reviewers have an awful habit of rating games with unintuitive controls worse than... games that are _actually worse_ (e.g, this game is higher rated than God Hand on IGN) it was written off as overly simple, yet nobody seemed to catch on to how it had a PARRY system, seriously! The game feels like it's made up of way too many ideas poorly slapped together, but I prefer that over not enough ideas, it's bad but nowhere near the worst N64 game I've played.
What people don’t seem to realise was that this game was supposed to be a PARODY/SPOOF of popular fighting games at the time and as a kid I even got that! Which is what made it so enjoyable and funny to me 😂
I remember this, didn't really enjoy it all that much except for the pumpkin head character. Though my friend, who borrowed kept wanting to play it. Wasn't much of a fighter game player back then also, not until Soulcalibur 2. Still, it was just alright.
I remember only ever seeing this at my friends house, tho i cannot remember what it was on, it was not a snes nor n64.. maybe a Sega Saturn... that or im just remembering things incorrectly...Were there any versions on the sega saturn or dreamcast?
I used to love this game for the longest time. Until I replayed it for the first time in god knows how many years. There is only one thing I have to say about this game now. It broke me. Because of this game I have lost all nostalgia I had for the n64 and I am now breaking down like the fighters getting hit in game.
I spent 65 flippin quid on this at launch from a mixture of pocket money and parents money. I begged to get it as I loved the SNES games so for some reason I didn't want to tell them I hated it probably not realising I could have exchanged it for something else quite easily. These were the days when buying games were few and far between for me too.
+N64 Glenn Plant at my local game store video trader i got the game for about 10 or 5 dollars i got an emulator to play sculptors cut and i love them cause they are just mortal kombat mixed in with clayfighter streetfighter and killer instinct and that the killer instincts were button mashers so that why i love them
I had a lot of fun playing it with my siblings, and still to this day we say and remember all the one liners, especially, "Oww! My liver! The only thing we like about the game is the dialogue and characters.
The 60k copies sold was referring to Christmas sales from 1997. No total copy numbers are released. Another wikipeida mis-information bad source tidbit. Some other sites list total sales around 200k.
I don't know, do you think that's accurate? Maybe they made 1,000,000 copies and sold like 50? lol It was not that popular in my world and with friends back in the day.
***** Yes, I really liked the game and from your name you do too! lol. Friends never really wanted to play it though. I loved that you could crash through areas, I thought that was such a cool feature.
I didn't hear about the SNES game until a while after this one was released, so I remember when I saw early screens of the game, I thought it was a very original concept. Was fairly intrigued, though the reviews killed my interest pretty quickly, and I never played it.
It is possible to pull off major combos in this game. But the controls are the drawback for most. If one isn't akin to such fighting games, then the gameplay will reflect as much with surgical precision.
It's a shame this game was so disappointing. I have fond memories of Clayfighter on SNES and was really expecting the N64 sequel to kick it up a notch. As a kid I didn't really notice how bad this game was on a technical level, but looking at the game as an adult certainly doesn't do it any favors. Earthworm Jim is what made the game all worth it for me at the time I guess.
This is definatly a game or game concept that I feel like would perform much better when excecuted on modern hardware with fully rendered claymation and improved controls. If I was an indie game developer I would aqquire the rights to this game and make ClayFighter 126 & 2/3 for the Switch and make bocoup money.
I loved that Game so much. My personally Favorite from the complete Franchise. Espiacialy better then Sculpurs cut. Its not so good without Auto Combo System of Killer Instinct.
For some reason, I want to defend this game ‘till the end of time. I feel like the gameplay was good because of how bad it was. The only thing the story mode is good for is to get the secret characters. I feel like having some friends around to play this game with would be stupid fun. Plus they got my bois Boogerman and Earthworm Jim! I’m not at all saying this is a good or even really decent game, but I find it hilarious fun with some pals.
2 things I remember. Earthworm Jim being in this...and how "funny" it was to call it 63 1/3. Seriously as a 10 year old I thought that was hilarious...
This game was alright but those controls, somehow it doesn't play as well as either of the SNES games and those were a fun distraction and nothing to write home about. I would welcome a more polished comeback of Clayfighter. I thought you reviewed this game already btw. edit: Ah, it was the Sculptor's Cut. I'd kinda like to have that but not for the price it goes for.
I was waiting on you to review this one. It looks like it suffers from the same features as the first two games to me. Quirky characters & humor with potential but the overall execution of it is somewhat lacking making it a barely average & clunky fighter.
This release is sad, because it killed the series, and this series had a lot of potential. The series was limited by the hardware at the time, and if released on later platforms, might have been fully realized. Supposedly there is a remaster in the works.
i never really liked fighting games. They all seem the same to me other than super smash bros(which is epic). The one thing i like about this one is the funny characters though.
The Clay Fighter 63 1/3 Sculptors Cut version of the game is one of the rarest (and nowadays most expensive) N64 games. It was only released to Blockbuster stores in NA. Game is still as shitty as vanilla though. hah
the game at first glance does look oke and by the look of some comments some people liked it ( i now sculpters cut is better i read that as well )never played though
Can't say ive played this version, but Clayfighter on the snes for me was just too primitive following SF2, even Mortal Kombat was better than CF and that's saying something considering the piss poor snes version of MK!
Am I going nuts?! Am I the only one that likes this game, and is my favorite in the franchise?! :(
***** I'm glad it has its fans, would you prefer this over sculptors cut though?
***** No, Sculptor's Cut definitely has to be better, because of extra characters and some new claytality's, although some claytality's are apparently taken out.

Dont get the hate for this game. I loved it. it was a good fighting game that was funny and had great jokes/audio.
I remember the N64 magazine article for this. The worst of the worst. Class
Morte haha yeah that was a brilliant review
I just got this game yesterday and I really like it alot
Russell Baldwin do u know doug wilson?
I still love this game no matter what
Mostly because of nostalgia
can't argue that. This game is total trash to me, but nostalgia makes me fond of it.
+tenacious645 me too but you know what they say about nostalgia it's not as good as it used to be
George Reggie Never is lol the rose tinted glasses are VERY tinted

SoftOtaku haha no plans to but at least they'll always be free on here :)
Que buenos juegos en los 90's / 00' eso si que era la buena infancia :)
Always played this at a friends house as a kid, I loved it
Its been over 20 years since I've played this!! Forgot it existed for awhile!
I forgot it existed until I saw this video in my feed!
Ugh, I had this as a kid and it always creeped me out back then, it has this strange eerie atmosphere, lingering over the entire game like fog...
Yes. Made me feel dark and depressed.
Clayfighter was amazing g
Right , it was fun to me . .
it's no killer instinct but, it's a bit of goofy fun for a quick play. the original on SNES is the best of course and the Sculptors Cut version is the epitome of silliness in the collecting community
I just got this gem for my massive N64 collection♥️🔥♥️

Rented it once, only game available unfortunatelly, returned it the same day.

Son: "I wanna play Sculptor's Cut !"
Mother: "We got Sculptor's Cut at home"
*Sculptor's Cut at home:*
I love this as a kid.
Not a bad game. Funny, light hearted, easy to pick up. How it got ran through the mud is very weird considering the absolute trash games that were also coming out at the time
I love this game! It's a classic. I sadly sold my Sculptor's Cut version for 280 bucks, but I still have the original 63 1/3. =]
My brother and I always laughed at the kung fu guy when we watched each other play the game as kids
I think a Clayfighter reboot could work. It would least be in good hands artistically, if they hired Lee Hardcastle of Claycat Doom fame to do the models and animation. If they started slow, and included only the original SNES characters, it could be a potential cult classic.

I've always enjoyed this game since 98. 😁

is it bad I'd try this game just because of Earthworm Jim?!
The Sterling Channel and boogerman
Haha Claytality. That gave me a good chuckle
KhazDamit some of them are cool - but some are terrible
I've been ordering a bunch of ps1 games lately to eventually do what Glenn does, I have no idea how and would love to learn. Help please
I remember enjoying this one but man does it look terrible today.
Did earthworm Jim have like a million hit combo or did my game just screw up??
I remember him having some stupidly long combo
I Liked this game, pretty fun. SNES version sucked though
I like this game for the WTF-factor alone.
I played Clayfighter on Sega Genesis, but never played CF 631/3.
I remember this, didn't really enjoy it all that much except for the pumpkin head character. Though my friend, who borrowed kept wanting to play it. Wasn't much of a fighter game player back then also, not until Soulcalibur 2. Still, it was just alright.

markus peg not that i am aware of I'm afraid
Clay Fighter may not contend with the bigger fighters out there but it's fun as long as you don't take it so seriously.
What's with the "63 1/3"? Were two thirds of a bit of the graphics processor never used?!
akaCol1987 it was an attempt at humour - believe it or not.... :S
I used to love this game for the longest time. Until I replayed it for the first time in god knows how many years. There is only one thing I have to say about this game now. It broke me. maaaaan i loved this game..
I much prefer it on SNES
Is it as bad as everyone makes it out to be? That's like Boy George asking, "do you really want to hurt me?" And we all scream YES!
Fonzie X hahahaha that was awesome
This game scared me so much as a child, that could not play it for more then a round or 2
why is it so unsettling? I played this at a friend's house in middle school and it's really weirded me out ever since.
Strange claymation I’d imagine
Excelent game
luis briones try sculptors cut if you liked this one
***** I'll look to play it
I remember this game I got it for free from a friend; I only payed it once and then immediately sold it to a used game store for about 2 bucks
Michael Sriqui thats a great deal! at my local store there were loads in a box and along with Fifa 64 they were pretty much pay what you like
+N64 Glenn Plant at my local game store video trader i got the game for about 10 or 5 dollars i got an emulator to play sculptors cut and i love them cause they are just mortal kombat mixed in with clayfighter streetfighter and killer instinct and that the killer instincts were button mashers so that why i love them
I loved this game
Who’s your fav character
@@n64glennplant growing up it was always Taffy, even tho my brother would destroy me using any other character
Nintendo needs to put clayfighter fighters in the next super smash bros
I had a lot of fun playing it with my siblings, and still to this day we say and remember all the one liners, especially, "Oww! My liver! The only thing we like about the game is the dialogue and characters.
The Zelda force id agree with that too
why does it cost so much?? Saw a video of one being 1200 bucks 😳
that was sculptors cut

Jaeger Newman Could have been the Blockbuster rental version "Sculptor's Edition"
Jaeger Newman it was :)
***** not that either was better than the other
I didn't hear about the SNES game until a while after this one was released, so I remember when I saw early screens of the game, I thought it was a very original concept. Was fairly intrigued, though the reviews killed my interest pretty quickly, and I never played it.
This game and Rogue Squadron made me not regret asking my parents for an N64.
It is possible to pull off major combos in this game. But the controls are the drawback for most. If one isn't akin to such fighting games, then the gameplay will reflect as much with surgical precision.
no64dd yeah and the speed that most good gamers can press buttons for combos at seems to surpass what the game can detect
This game made me feel dark and depressed.
N64 doesn't have a Simpsons' game but Dan Castellaneta is present in this game.
This comment section is the very definition of the term "the duality of man."
It's a shame this game was so disappointing. I have fond memories of Clayfighter on SNES and was really expecting the N64 sequel to kick it up a notch. Marco Wolken yeah clay fighter on the snes was amazing, i loved that too so many funny memories of battles
This is definatly a game or game concept that I feel like would perform much better when excecuted on modern hardware with fully rendered claymation and improved controls. If I was an indie game developer I would aqquire the rights to this game and make ClayFighter 126 & 2/3 for the Switch and make bocoup money.
One of the most expensive games to buy if you get the edition with extra fights
I loved that Game so much. My personally Favorite from the complete Franchise. Espiacialy better then Sculpurs cut. Its not so good without Auto Combo System of Killer Instinct.

woah!
2 things I remember.
Earthworm Jim being in this...and how "funny" it was to call it 63 1/3.
Seriously as a 10 year old I thought that was hilarious...
Ross K Foad lol i was probably what like 14 at the time so i didnt find it too funny just kind of odd
Pimpalicious1987 haha yes it was sculptors cut - that was some years ago now!
Could you do one on Milo's Astro Lanes? Please and thank you
Bad Mr. Frosty! VS Bad Mr. Frosty!
*Game Start*
"I'm BAD!"
"I'm BAD!"
just needed Michael Jackson to pop up hey
This game is brilliant, and awesome. I don't care what anyone says. Fair review, but I love it!
When you can, plz do a review of Earthworm Jim 3D, Mega Man 64, Mystical Ninja Starring Geomon, and Perfect Dark? Thanx
nathanael vazquez good requests - i hope to soon
Thank. Love your videos, BTW. I laughed so hard with the cinnamon challenge. Lol
I got this game 1 week ago it was pretty good
I actually like this game, but its probably because it was my only game at the time...
Compare this one with the Super Nintendo version i prefer the SNES cause this one didn't give such impact comparing with the Snes version.
Kyo Saeba yeah the snes one was huge here, i remember it being on gaming tv shows because it looked so fresh
I've recently came across the sculpters cut on some forums for sale...not worth the price
NostalgicRoe yeah its for collectors only, its not a game that you will want to keep playing
yeah the majority of the rarest, most expensive games are actually really crappy and pure collector items
I was waiting on you to review this one. It looks like it suffers from the same features as the first two games to me. Quirky characters & humor with potential but the overall execution of it is somewhat lacking making it a barely average & clunky fighter.
shockz16 you know it would be an awesome style of game in the hands of a better studio i think
Agreed :)
it does look pretty impressive, just a shame about the controls
TootyUk yeah stick to the snes on i think
I love it
Loved the first on the SNES, and now I have t get this one.
Orion Ake the snes one is way better than the 2 n64 clay fighters in my opinion so dont get your hopes up Orion!
great vid :)
This release is sad, because it killed the series, and this series had a lot of potential. The series was limited by the hardware at the time, and if released on later platforms, might have been fully realized. Supposedly there is a remaster in the works.
The Game Grinder yeah just imagine how good claymation would look on a modern hd console
i never really liked fighting games. They all seem the same to me other than super smash bros(which is epic). The one thing i like about this one is the funny characters though.
This game gave me the creeps as a kid! I have no idea why I had this crap.
The Clay Fighter 63 1/3 Sculptors Cut version of the game is one of the rarest (and nowadays most expensive) N64 games. It was only released to Blockbuster stores in NA.
Game is still as shitty as vanilla though. hah
0002pA yeah i reviewed that a few years back
And now this and the Sculptor's Cut edition are worth a lot of money, I wonder why, maybe because it's a good game!?
Nope.
This game creeped me out
You sure don't like to write home a lot; sorry LOL, just binged all your videos so there was prolly larger gaps in between than it seems
I’m sorry I don’t understand
This game looks better on the super Nintendo
the game at first glance does look oke and by the look of some comments some people liked it ( i now sculpters cut is better i read that as well )never played though
I reviewed sculptors cut many years ago now, slightly better than this but only worth picking up for collectors IMO
Taco
Can't say ive played this version, but Clayfighter on the snes for me was just too primitive following SF2, even Mortal Kombat was better than CF and that's saying something considering the piss poor snes version of MK!
I'm just glad that back in the day n64 mags outed this shite and save people money!
TheonlyJesusduck jaja
Still better then dbz ultimate battle 22
It had potential to be good but they dropped the ball big time.
"Cluck you", gahaha.
I love this game
So they released this game and not dragon sword 64 🤣
