Hello and thanks for the great review! This was the first game I shipped at 3DO. I was one of two (or 3) level designers for both single and MP. I also did the pencils for the majority of gang art and some intro cinematic cells. I also designed the 3 tanx. That said, I still have fond memories of developing this game and working alongside a fantastic small team of developers. Battletanx for life!
Happi Axxident Thank you for developing this game!! i have very fond memories of playing Battletanx and the sequel for days as a child. If this game ever got remastered though, i just might have a heart attack 😍
mattwillis4 My friend and I did the exact same thing back in the day. I don’t recall ever getting into the campaign. I just remember countless hours of multiplayer and having a blast!
To anyone who has never played the multiplayer for this game you are missing out. Just as much fun as Mario Kart or Goldeneye. Definatly the best with 4 players though!
Me and my dad bought this game on its release day...and we still play the damn thing in 2016. The multi player really IS that much fun. Each tank is a hoot to play. You feel fragile but like a hornet with the buggy, tactical with the medium tank, and like an unstoppable beast in the Goliath. The balanced vehicles, every weapon being useful, the fantastic music and well designed maps make this game timeless for me.
I absolutely love battletanx, I just picked it up recently based on Glenn's review...I just love the premise of this game, and with a little imagination this games premise just works... now I grew up on Global Assualt, however the first installment is a must have and is refreshing... Cant wait to do epic vs. mode.
It's the game mode everyone complains about in Arkham Knight as a whole game! Always remember N64 Magazine talking about it, but I never played it. I already had Twisted Metal and Vigilante 8, so it didn't really interest me.
I came across this video when searching for a review of this game. Couldn't have said it better yourself. I was curious about its reviews because I had such fond memories, and I was just listening to the soundtrack because it was SO good.
Thanks for the review! My brother and I played this with our uncle, his friend, and our cousin when we were little. It was so cool and the multiplayer was a blast.
I have fond memories of this game. When I was a young child, I enjoyed playing multiplayer whenever friends come over to my house. I also remember trying a hand at the story mode. I did not get far, but the game was fun to play.
I remember when the N64 was being let go by Nintendo, I stood many a times next to the discount bin with part two of this game, Xena, Destruction Derby, Rush 2049 and so on in my hands, ultimately deciding against it and saving my money for the follow up console. Kind of regret having missed out on all these great titles now. I don't think I would appreciate them the same these days as I would have back then - still a lot of thanks for giving us these comprehensive reviews and with that a lot of 'what if..'-nostalgia, as well as bringing back all the memories of following the development proces and hype of these games through magazines back then!
I have many good memories of me and my cousins playing the multiplayer. Man I miss those simpler times. I still play it every now and then on my childhood n64. Great game.
I played this with friends and family back in the day and had a lot of fun, but always enjoyed the sequel, BattleTanx: Global Assault more. Either way I would argue that this has some of the best if not THE best multiplayer on the console.
My 1st experience with this game was renting it from a local game/video store. I loved it so much that a few weeks later, I asked my dad to buy it for me, which he did. I still have that exact same N64 copy today. :)
The single greatest game of my childhood, the sequel was even better-3DO man stuff of legends-clearly, some huge storyline holes. Compared to games today, the controls and everything are ancient. God, I wish this could be re-done and a modern version released as a cult classic; well, we can dream.
Gotta agree with you point at 3:25 about the types of levels. It was the mixed reviews that got meto consider it and I still enjoy Battle Tanx from time to time.
Yet another game I wanted to play so bad, but never had the opportunity. I saw this in magazines all the time during high school. I knew it was an amazing game, because it looked like it was right up my ally. Especially the multiplayer.
I decided to give this game another chance after seeing your review and I'm really enjoying it this time around! Think I'd dismissed it as it was a non Nintendo/Rare game but it's a lot of fun and the sequel looks to be even better - thanks for bringing it to my attention!
This and that sequel took sooooo much of my friends and I time. They would sleep over and we would play till 10 am. Love it I wish they would bring it back
My brother, a couple of friends, and I played this game many hundreds of hours. It was a ton of fun. I like the sound of crunching a moto-tank. That's why I came here; looking for the moto-tank crunching sound to put in a facebook post to describe how it might sound if one of those 3 wheel cars were driving on the highway and got run over.
One of my favorite games during my childhood. It always bothered me that you could never turn your turret, but all the bots could. Only years later did I learn that in the options menu, you can change it so that you can swivel your own turret. Why the locked turret is the default is beyond me.
Did anyone else discover that if you press a certain combination of buttons, the guided missile powerup sends a giant controllable laser shooting missle?
@@n64glennplant you don't know? That's wild!! I wonder if it's an Easter egg or in the game docs. It works with almost ANY power up. ...(From memory). You need to have enough of the power up for it to work (for example 100 missiles). For land mine it deploys I think a whole minefield all at once. For guided missiles it deploys a gigantic guided missile that flies slow and allows you to shoot laser beams, for gun buddies it deploys a giant missile shooting gun buddy. For swarmers (missiles) it fires a barrage of missiles out in front of you. I think there's more but I forget. I also don't remember the special combination, it might be A+B on the controller or B+Z or something. ... Using these special moves uses up nearly ALL your powerup reserves. If you didn't know about this, load up the game in multiplayer mode and try it out. The laser shooting guided missile is absolutely wild!
Loved Battletanx: Global Assault. Still can rock a game of multiplayer with friends and have a great time! Hopefully we can see a review of that in the future :)
I grew up on global assualt...but based upon your review I just had to pick it up...love the whole mad max apocalypse premise...the epic vs. mode, the overall intense gameplay, and surround sound....and to be honest the visual art style suits this game... agreed..this game and series is underrated...
This game didn't get favorable reviews but to me, it's a hidden gem, So much fun to pick up and play and destroy things. I'm quite impressed with the destructible environments and it triggers my ocd to blow up every building. Music is atrocious so I put it on mute and the graphics are bad, but that doesn't stop the fun gameplay. One real gripe though are the enemies, it's incredibly hard to dodge their attacks and seem to always shoot first without you even seeing them on the screen. Does the N64 sequel fix this issue? I just ordered it because I enjoyed the first one so much. Very addicting and I haven't even played multiplayer yet.
I have the best memories of this game. It still warms my heart remembering that, I as a 10 year old girl, left my brothers angered and my father (a grown man) throwing a literal fit because they couldn’t beat me multiplayer 😂😂😂 pro tip - choose blue, the other colors are too vibrant and stand out more.
I feel we need more games like this where you drive around in a vehicle and can blow up everything. Yeah we have World of Tanks but that game goes for a more realistic approach, which is fine for many people but I want a tank/vehicle combat game that isn't tethering itself with realism.
Me and my dad used to play this all the time when I was a kid. He still mentions it damn near 25 years later. I used to nuke our asses out of existence when he was beating me! Thanx for the nostalgia
Hey thanks for the great review at first I wasn't sure of the game when I played it I had looked up the commercial on TH-cam and it was very funny I bought the game and at first I sucked at it. But the second time I played it I got better. And overall I think it's a very fun game. Game on!🎮

I rented this game as a kid knowing nothing about it, and I absolutely loved it! Sadly, I was the only one in my family that did like it, so we never ended up buying it.
I still play 4 player matches of this game with my friends to this day (along with the other n64 staples). I personally think the single player is meh, but the multiplayer is fun if u can find 3 people to play with. If you're looking for a single player game, there are better experiences on the console (not to say that this game is bad tho)
Battletanx does ring a bell for me, though I don't remember playing it. Apparently this game never got an official PAL release, though the sequel did. IS this game worth importing just to play it?
Although I agree that this game is good I would say to skip it and go with the superior sequel Battletanx: Global Assault. It improves every aspect of the first game and is one of my favorites on the N64.
I had the sequel as a kid. It seems to be really hard to find the PAL version for it over here. In my local game shop, they have a copy sitting in the NOT FOR SALE cabinet
I loved this game so much, even though the concept is ludicrous, however, the most fun video games have ludicrous plots as well. Who needs reality, we get enough in our own lives these days. Go fun!
There's a similar game on the N64 that you get to play as Military vehicles ranging from tanks to hovering tanks , the ones that are used to go through mines... Do you have any idea on what the game is called ? I played it a long time ago but I just can't remember the name :-/
Sadly I didn't pick this one up when it first came out my friend I was more into playing blast corps which is a awesome game in my opinion great review^_^

nate if it had tank controls like the halo driving controls that would be prefect. where you can drive sideways and don't have to shoot straight forward.

Happi Axxident Ok you got my attention!
Happi Axxident
Thank you so much for developing this fantastic game. I really wish you guys were able to continue the series.
One of my fav n64 games of all time. I even have a tattoo from it. The sequel was even better.
I saw your tat and the body harvest one! Very rad!
WrecklessEating gotta see that tat sometime soon!
Thank you!
My brother and I dumped so many hours of our life in to this multiplayer. Seriously, one of the most fun multiplayer games, ever!
mattwillis4 i think so too

Same here
I still have my copy
Me and my brother did the same thing
To anyone who has never played the multiplayer for this game you are missing out. Just as much fun as Mario Kart or Goldeneye. Definatly the best with 4 players though!
Agreed, it was great! I wish the graphics were better but the game play was def there
It's basically Mario Kart combined with Goldeneye when you think about it.
i agree
Facts
Right up there with Super Smash Brothers, and Mario Party etc... really is an underrated and under appreciated game....

***** its along those lines but a little slower due to the tanks, the multiplayer though ranks up there with those titles
I totally read your comment in your voice, Larry. lol
When I was a child. I used to play as the Mech Maniacs. And I would go around putting down the "Gun Buddies" Everywhere and build a base. :3
I came across this video when searching for a review of this game. Couldn't have said it better yourself. I was curious about its reviews because I had such fond memories, and I was just listening to the soundtrack because it was SO good.
I was really young when i got this game i was like 2 or 3rd grade and loved the hell out of this game playing with my dad
+John D I played this with my dad too. I think we played the capture the female (flag) mode the most.
I was young & i plade global assault with my dad
Thanks for the review! My brother and I played this with our uncle, his friend, and our cousin when we were little. It was so cool and the multiplayer was a blast.

I had this on N64 back in the day, I think about it pretty regularly. I'd love to play it again honestly.
What’s stopping you from playing it?
This was a collaboration between 3DO and Nintendo....? Thanks, Glenn your Reviews are great.
I remember when the N64 was being let go by Nintendo, I stood many a times next to the discount bin with part two of this game, Xena, Destruction Derby, Rush 2049 and so on in my hands, ultimately deciding against it and saving my money for the follow up console. respect for old school reviews. this game was great back in the day
I fking loved the mood the long intro threw you in and i was marveled to be able to crush cars.
I have many good memories of me and my cousins playing the multiplayer. Man I miss those simpler times. I still play it every now and then on my childhood n64. Great game.
thats kinda what made this spring to mind for a play through today
I loved almost everything about this game!

I recall memories of long hours, playing this with my brother. It was a game that we borrowed from our homie. It took us so long to give back! 🙏🏾😅
I'd love to see a rerelease of Battletanx.
HD or not, this game is a cult classic.
My 1st experience with this game was renting it from a local game/video store. I loved it so much that a few weeks later, I asked my dad to buy it for me, which he did. I still have that exact same N64 copy today. :)

It was Tokyo Wars but in your home with four players.
And it was perfect.
Played this a few times at parties as a kid. The 4 player Vs was outstanding
Gotta agree with you point at 3:25 about the types of levels. It was the mixed reviews that got meto consider it and I still enjoy Battle Tanx from time to time.
My grandpa had this game and we'd play the multiplayer mode. Great memories. Loved this game.
You are correct about the multiplayer part. Me and my friend would spend hours playing it. Seeing this video pop up totally made my day.
CrazyMetroid its amazing how many people loved this multiplayer
Yet another game I wanted to play so bad, but never had the opportunity. I saw this in magazines all the time during high school. I knew it was an amazing game, because it looked like it was right up my ally. Especially the multiplayer.
this is a multiplayer fun fest - really great title to have
Classic. Most underrated multiplayer mode indeed.
I decided to give this game another chance after seeing your review and I'm really enjoying it this time around! Think I'd dismissed it as it was a non Nintendo/Rare game but it's a lot of fun and the sequel looks to be even better - thanks for bringing it to my attention!
my memories was playing the multiplayer w/my cousin of the same age, for a couple hours if we could. long gone memories but it's nice to reminisce
Great multiplayer game, still have it. My friend and I would race to find where the nuke was hidden and detonate it first.
KhazDamit haha that was always the way!
This and that sequel took sooooo much of my friends and I time. They would sleep over and we would play till 10 am. Love it I wish they would bring it back

Great video man BattleTanx was so much fun, agreed on multi over single player, enjoyed the deathmatch mode with friends for hours.
David Dragoon yeah its one of the greatest multiplayer games you dont hear many people discuss

Lucas H. ha i was about to tell you how to do it then i read the rest!
this is my favorite game. thanks for covering it!
Loved this game! We probably logged more multiplayer time on this than GoldenEye.
man I love this game so much I so upset I had to give up my n64
Why did you have to give up your N64?

Wow!! Never heard of this before. If I see a cartridge of it, I'm buying it!
check out the sequel too
@@n64glennplant Ah, Global Assault on the PS1? I'll try emulating it. :)

God love this game takes me back, it always remind me of escape from NY meets madmax with Abrams tanks. How could you not love it?
Honestly, I love the graphics and story of Battletanx.
You make really good game reviews. Good job!

This is such a fun game! I actually never played the single-player campaign, but the multi-player is a blast.
The Game Grinder its worth a one time play though for sure on solo
Yeah I suppose I should probably give it a play-through. Thanks for the review btw!

Used to play 2v2 with my brother and cousins with this game was so freaking fun.
this game looks great i like the idea of all the destruction you can cause and the nuke looks top
I liked this game for the multiplayer, rented it a few times but never owned it.
I picked up the sequel, Global Assault recently.
This was one of my favorite games and still is this one and the second one are so good 💯
Yeah great action packed arcade fun
I'd never even heard of this until now, reminds me a bit of the tank level in Goldeneye.
Barry's World very much so!

I remember requesting this some time ago! Awesome to see it up! Global Assault is the better of the two, though!
Lazaro Aguilar see i do get around to them where possible :)
At 1:35, how was you’re tank Brown? Please tell, and how were you a different gang in the campaign?
There is a cheat code that lets you play as any gang in the campaign mode. As for the Brown tank's specific faction, it's the Urban decay. Look them up on the BT wiki if you're interested.
I really like the jingle at the end of your videos!
Just sayin :P
An unexpected hit when it came out. This was such an awesome game.

Never beat this game, but i thought the premise was badass as a kid. Nuclear war and all that, and females being essential. So cool
I grabbed it when renting games was still a thing at Hollywood Videos. I loved it but only ever got the second game.

you could lay auto turrets... as many as you like. make a defended fortress in capture the flag.. very fun during its time.. but outdated now.
Yeah, I didn't want to waste money on it. But the commercials for this game were pretty funny.
Multiplayer is so much fun
It's too bad you're across the pond. I would love to play a game with you.
Maybe one day they’ll do a remaster with online
I love your stuff, but you should really think about showing these games in their original 4:3 aspect ratio.
ArrigeAnders i record in svideo in 480i so it transcodes 4x to 16:9 which i personally prefer the look of :)
