The sound here is what made me fall in love with Broadway Musicals so many years ago. The sound we have today is what killed it for me. At $600 a ticket I don't want "small."
Sing me a happy song about robins in spring Sing me a happy song with a happy ending Some cheerful roundelay about catching the ring Sing happy Sing me a sonnet all about rolling in gold Some peppy melody about rainbows blending Nothing with phrases saying you're out in the cold Sing happy Tell me tomorrow's gonna be peaches and cream Assure me clouds are lined with a silver lining Say how you've realized an impossible dream Sing me a happy song Play me a madrigal about trips to the moon Or some old ballad about two eyes shining It can't be loud enough or a moment too soon Sing happy No need reminding me that it all fell apart I need no lyrics singing of stormy weather There's quite enough around me that's breaking my heart Sing happy Give me a Hallelujah and get up and shout Tell me the sun is shining around the corner Whoever's interested helping me out Please keep it happy I'm only in the market for long, loud laughter I'll let you serenade me till dawn comes along Just make it a happy Keep it a happy song
@@gw2012ogm By the time this show opened, in 1964, Broadway musicals were miked. Streisand was miked in 1964’s “Funny Girl” 10 years later Ms. Minnelli was miked in Chicago the Musical.
I saw her in this show. I sat behind her at the movies once when she was a teenager. I was at a sneak preview of Caberet when she was there in the front row. Sorry what's happened to her.
Watch her dancing during her prime years and you’ll understand how she pushed and used her body to make her performances top! And you’ll understand that she gave everything she used up all her body when entertaining. Simply sensational entertainer. So much of her dad’s pizzazz in her!
Yeah I agree. Liza may have the range for it (she was naturally a higher-set voice overall) but at this stage she did not have the technique to sustain that kinda range for very long time.
I adore Liza and always have but I think she could handle the song in it's present key but she tended to yell . A bit lower key would have been more electric and awesome IMO! She was very young here and made a great impression!
I 💕 LIZA !! and !... I Know ! She Was VERY!!! Young !!!!! ....... But Damn ,! Girl !!!! SOMEBODY ! Needed ! A LITTLE Restrain !!!! 🙄Just !...... A Little !..... Over the Top ! 😜
THAT BELT. That concentration. Focus on her lyrics. Presentation. And that wind up for the final belt. She's incredible.
I've loved this song forever. Seeing her performance gives it so much more power. Starmaking talent
I’m so so glad this clips exists
Judy was a miracle and she made another one

Excelente presentación.
Saludos y mas éxitos...amada Liza.
Liza was amazing right from the get-go!
And Liza won a Tony Award for this role.
Sing me a happy song about robins in spring
Sing me a happy song with a happy ending
Some cheerful roundelay about catching the ring
Sing happy
Sing me a sonnet all about rolling in gold
Some peppy melody about rainbows blending
Nothing with phrases saying you're out in the cold
Sing happy
Tell me tomorrow's gonna be peaches and cream
Assure me clouds are lined with a silver lining
Say how you've realized an impossible dream
Sing me a happy song
Play me a madrigal about trips to the moon
Or some old ballad about two eyes shining
It can't be loud enough or a moment too soon
Sing happy
No need reminding me that it all fell apart
I need no lyrics singing of stormy weather
There's quite enough around me that's breaking my heart
Sing happy
Give me a Hallelujah and get up and shout
Tell me the sun is shining around the corner
Whoever's interested helping me out
Please keep it happy
I'm only in the market for long, loud laughter
I'll let you serenade me till dawn comes along
Just make it a happy
Keep it a happy song
Gives me chills
I love this clip. He voice was dramatically different just 10 years later.
I so agree. Shes giving me Edie Gorme, Young Streisand and of course, Judy. She really found her own signature style in the 70s!!!
Ten years later she didn’t need to sing to fill an auditorium without amplification

A lot of cigarettes in between...
@@chocolatesouljah They were ambient, though, rather than body mics - a little help in general is different to getting a person mix
That hunger. That thirst. I like that part of a performer's career.

Sorry what's happened to her.
She got old as the rest of us! Still love her

The young Liza looks like the young Tyne Daly.
how long can she go without blinking tho
@Robert Lee, Countertenor thank you for the statistics.. otherwise i'd have had to count myself too. incredible.
Looking at the lyrics it seems as they took words from Judy's songs
Lovely to find. Thanks for uploading. I must say I think the arrangement is pitched just a little too high. Still great though :)

You ! Are ! So Right 🙄

Great song! Although I don't quite enjoy it as much without Don Walker's superb orchestration. It's so...BROADWAY!!!
She doesn’t MOVE! And what’s going on with her eyebrows?!
lol
I think TV spots were foreign to stage performers so she might've been a bit nervous. she also might've been told to stay still
Foreign at the time.

can’t. sing. legato.
