Heard this for the first time when I was about 12 years old. I didn't understand it then. Now whilst planning a wedding in a pandemic that will be so intimate and without frills, I understand. And it's beautiful.
The melody heard at the very beginning before she sings is "My Own Space" from "The Act", also Kander & Ebb. And Yes, that IS Michael Feinstein accompanying her.
Yes, the pianist does look like Michael Feinstein. In this particular song, Liza establishes that she can do more than sing torch songs & she does so with complete authority & as another observed, no frills, no gimmicks. She has the confidence as an artist to let the lyrics & the music touch the audience. She made this song come alive, quietly....
Her eyes look so dilated here. Anyway, she really put her heart into it. At first, the song sounded like the theme song for the film Somewhere in Time.
I was very young back then and I didn't know anything about drugs and their effects. I just thought she was beautiful with the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. Now everyone knows that she was doing cocaine throughout all of her youth and continued till all the smoking crack and snorting cocaine destroyed her voice and lungs. She now is hardly able to get her breath. So very sad this enormously talented lady destroyed herself. 🥺🙄😥
@@twistoffate4791 cocaine has destroyed millions of lives and is currently destroying millions more today. This destroyed Liza's health/life in 2 different ways: after snorting cocaine, it runs down through the sinuses then to the back of the throat. It's a powerful acid burning the vocal cords as it passes down the throat. This explains why later in the late 1970's and 1980's voice was beginning to sound rough, horse and raspy at times. #2. When someone is smoking crack cocaine, the smoke is an even stronger acid and it burns holes into the lungs. After years of constantly burning more and eventually bigger holes into the lungs, it then becomes impossible for the lungs to get and hold air for breathing and singing. She has always been partying to the excess since the beginning of her early 20's And now it's time for the piper to be paid. Along with the decades of smoking, sadly she probably also has cancer of the lungs. This is why she is in a wheelchair because she can't breathe when she's walking. May God truly bless her.🙄🥺😥
Should have been much more from top talent Liza, who had lifestyle issues. Judy went kaput too, but she did great musical films first. Young Liza in the 60s and 70s didn't have the chances.
You are definitely a fan. You obviously have never heard Judy sing "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" from the movie "Ziegfeld Girl" or "The Man Who Got Away."

It's Feinstein.
This song was written just for her by Fred ebb and john kander.
Looks like Michael Feinstein (sp) on the piano?
Streisand does a Great version of this song, as a Medley with There Won’t Be Trumpets!
YUMMYLICIOUS !!!!!!

@@charliechilders6630 I knew she had done cocaine at some point, but knew nothing about the crack. That is very sad. What a unique talent she was.

huh???
IN GREAT VOICE, ONE OF GREATEST SINGERS, BETTER THAN HER MOM
No, sorry. Judy was better but Liza is pretty good, too.

The two best!
Can't compare the two. They are so very different and wonderful.
I love Liza but I wouldn't go that far!
Good lord. The lyrics are ok I guess. But what's up w/ that lugubrious melody? ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Liza- and we- deserves better.
Terrific song.
It's a quiet.... thing.
LMAO, have you EVER heard this song before?
Lugubrious.....LOL. Making yourself feel special by using big words.
I think A Quiet Thing is one of her loveliest songs, especially the version from the Winter Garden show.
Dumb comment.
Could never sing Ahhhhhh
