Near the beginning of the video, you found an antique iron lung. That implies that the church had a polio clinic in the 1940's and 1950's, and possibly a bit later if the patients in them didn't recover sufficiently to breathe on their own. Quite a piece of history there, thank you for documenting it!
I always wonder why, when a place is closed down and abandoned, they leave everything just like they will be right back. Nobody packs up, recycled anything, or even puts stuff away. It's like they left for a lunchbreak and never came back
I'm Catholic and that symbol you saw was the symbol of the cross of God the father. And the relics you saw it's actually normal for any roman catholic churches.

I feel as though everytime a church closes no matter the religion,God gets sad. Everything in this world is becoming more important than our faith and beliefs. We need to go back to the days when we went to church every Sunday.
7:40 to 7:44 ish you can hear either a child or a woman saying "who are you" twice. Josh it's like you heard something as well because you turn around like you heard something? If this is in fact a Roman Catholic Cathedral, the Vatican most likely is still owner of this property but unfortunately probably wasn't receiving enough revenue to keep it open. Many times these empty beauties are rented to other churches or organizations to try to generate some income.
Mariati A.halim I don't know why I comment to him anymore. He never responds like he used to. Too big now I guess. thanks for confirming that you heard it too though. I appreciate that
Please wear masks and gloves for protection... I saw your catacombs video, picking up centuries old bones without gloves. Do you know how many diseases you could have caught?
It probably was a ground keeper, that is why they cut it out. Thats an ancient roman ruin, those typically arent 100% abandoned also its church property so there probably is a grounds keeper.
Guys no joke, be careful in those places with black mold. As long as you don't kick up too much dust or rip down anything with mold on it you should be okay, but a dust mask would be best.
I'd call that a Cathedral, it's huge compared to a church, the ornate high ceilings, floor designs etc. Very cool place, not much like that here in the UK. Not abandoned anyway.
I'd say it is more of a monastery if there's beds in there and people live there in the church. The cathedral was attached to the rest of the building where you walked in and saw the symbol that place was the cathedral. The rest of it and all the details and types of rooms and living make it a monastery.
At 6:30 did you find the source of the church melody? I heard it too and that's creepy. Maybe we were hearing music from someone playing on the piano in their past life. Probably the same piano you found in the video.
+Derek Tang It might've been someone else in the building, or a haunted piano, or any number of things! I'm really curious, they should've gone looking for it. Then again, they might've been killed by some ancient ghost. lol
Josh, I'm 1 of the 2.5 Billion Catholics in the world and the Church your in here is an old Church were we moved to a safer building. I love your vids, but couldnt watch this cause i know the way most ppl treat us and our Churches. The safe's are for the Eucharist..Plz respect our Churches and Faith..Thanks and God Bless
I respect your religion but if u cared u wouldn't leave that stuff... And really he might not believe the same as u... And he said he wouldn't take things... And safe are meant to be opened anyway so I would have tried to...
Josh is actually very respectful in his videos, and this one is not an exception. No matter the type of building he enters, something sacred like a church or something far more simple like an amusement park, he never vandalises or disrespects the property. Don't worry, he was respectful of this church in this video :) It's sad that some people disrespect others' faith, but Josh isn't one of those people.
"Some of you don't even know what VCRs are" Oh I remember them alright. Those blasted things loved eating my Scooby Doo movies. I was so happy when we finally got a DVD player.
7:28 It's a Byzantine cross. If you look at the early churches before the schism of 1054, many were shaped like this symbol. That detail makes the title on your video half correct: it's not Roman (as they date from the middle ages), it's a Neo-Roman cathedral trying to recreate this old architecture style with a more modern touch. As for the chapel on the beginning, I'd say it's Victorian as the woodwork all around is characteristic of this style. I might be wrong though, as I am not exactly an expert.
The symbol on the ground, well, clearly is the cross, then the four dots my guess would be to represent the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Then the triangles would have to be representation of the Holy Trinity.
Josh keep thease vids up there Blody amazing and u inspired me to do exploring but i got sick so i stopped :D anyway have a gret day and keep up thease brilliant vids!
I think doing that would be amazing, I'm not religious in the slightest but just the effort that is put into the cathedral is amazing and beautiful. Also, the artwork of the glass in the chapel is also beautiful, it's just amazing.
did you have a woman with you at the second church? cause i heard a women ask a question when you said you never seen nothing like this in my life...can't quite make it out though something...then says the boys over there..around 7:39 -7:45..but what a beautiful place also when you were commenting on the mail boxes who said gotta name a male?
Another awesome video :) It was so nice to see all those stained glass windows still intact. Super creepy about the quarantined rooms o.O It looks like some kind of Catholic healthcare place. Way back when, many nuns were also nurses. But it's pretty crazy to see a smaller church and then that huge cathedral like place! Great find and great video, as always :)
i think we should all chip in and buy Josh a powerful flashlight because sometimes it is way to dark to see anything and also he wont be such a scardypants .... oh and an object dictionary... lol..
That metal hammer thing at the beginning is called an iron lung. ( haven't watched whole vid or read any comments so if anyone already said that sorry, lol)
This was so fun. It was likely a hospice wing. Churches used to have spaces to care for the poor and sick. The basement looked like a rectory office, and you guys walked through one of the apartments (higher ups had apartments, newbies had cells which were really spartan concrete rooms). This channel is really fun. Be safe and keep exploring!
1. Iron lungs were the respirators of the early 19th century. They saw a lot of use during America's polio epidemic. Churches, schools and community buildings were commandeered and turned into make shift polio wards to accommodate the space needed for the gigantic iron lungs. Each iron lung was dedicated 24-7 to patients who's condition had paralyzed their respiratory systems. To give you an idea of how bad the epidemic was, in 1952 alone there were 60,000 cases of polio, with more than 3,000 deaths. After the polio vaccine, and the subsequent eradication of the virus in America, many of these facilities were left with dozens of the iron lung machines cluttering up their storage facilities. 2. The blue surgical gloves and the policy of double red bagging tells me that the quarantine had nothing to do with a virus and this building had more likely been undergoing asbestos removal in an attempt to restore the building. 3. That was the VIRGIN Mary, not the saint.
Oh, one more thing, you have an amazing eye for the beauty in things and I love that you are respectful and willing to share all of your wonderful adventures with us. Thanks Josh
Yo i hate how interested i am in all your videos i keep watching them before bed and its almost six in the morning. Yet again. Thank you Josh for keeping me awake xD
+Gary Jordan Sir, money is exactly the issue, that's why it's not taken care of. It costs millions to tare apart, sort out, recycle and scrap everything after a disclosure or bankruptcy, in some cases whole abandoned community's. It's much cheaper to just leave it, no matter the environment or health implications for nearby community's and people. Stay safe.
Hey Josh, I love watching your videos. This church is one of my favorites. You go to such cool places. I appreciate that you look but don't destroy or take stuff. Keep on keeping on and I'll be watching! Stay safe
holy crap. that was amazing. It makes me so sad to see that gorgeous church in ruins. what state was this in? Also, the symbol on the floor of the second church was another kind of cross.
Dude... who or what was standing in the doorway behind you at 11:01. It appeared to be someone in a clown suit or someone in a red and gold church robe. weird...
Shawn McGinley stop the video at 11:00 ...it happens very quickly so do it just as Josh is between the two doors . The one to his right standing in the background kooks to be a clergy or someone else. If you roll past 11;01 you'll miss it.
You do an amazing thing actually josh your keeping the memory of these forgotten places alive and its sad to think these places have been forgotten its spooky too but keep it up man !
Rather unlikely. Viruses and bacterias usually don't last more than a few hours, days or in rare situations weeks without a host. So there can't be much stuff there that makes them sick. Except of the mold
I always watch your videos but never comment. This has to be the best one ever!! Thank you for sharing! The last seen with y’all walking out made me think... people did walk out of their one day long ago and never walked backed in. 🤯❤️❤️❤️❤️
I found this to be so fascinating thank you so much Josh for doing what a lot of us people would love to do but through your camera we are doing it... keep it up
I know. If you listen closely and look around the room there is no one there right? That's because they are in a place that echos obviously but a ghost voice doesn't echo so it is not a ghost
At 6:40, the organ are playing in the church. There are rules for exploring abandoned churches, and one of them is if you hear an organ playing , your time is running out.
out of ALL the videos I've seen so far...Josh I definitely think this is my fave place. Omg I would Looooooove to go explore it! keep up the great work! Be safe ALWAYS...=)
As a cradle Catholic sometimes it's easy to forget that not everyone knows basic theological symbolism. I thought to myself, "Stepping on a snake? How could you not know what it means?" The serpent represents Satan, so Mary is literally grinding her heel into the devil's head.
There's the song Reckless Love, some people have written in the comments that they have no idea what "the 99" references to. Not a lot of people are educated on Catholicism and so that's oftentimes why people get angry at Catholics. For example, people think we worship Mary. Really, we worship Jesus and we honor Mary as well as asking for her intercession.
that church music was insane, you guys should have recorded in silence longer, it was ghostly and beautiful. also that "who are you" voice was so clear...amazing
This was such a cool video man!! The first church was beautiful with all these colorful glass-windows, but the second one?! DAMN!! 😍😍😍 That looked so freaking cool. The art, the high ceilings, the space! Incredible. 🤯😳 Thanky you for sharing all these cool places with us :)
hey Josh, have you ever considered interviewing local residents and including it in your vids? it would be super cool to get some background info/hear all their memories of some of the places you explore from back in the day when they were thriving :)
Near the beginning of the video, you found an antique iron lung. That implies that the church had a polio clinic in the 1940's and 1950's, and possibly a bit later if the patients in them didn't recover sufficiently to breathe on their own. Quite a piece of history there, thank you for documenting it!
that's exactly what I was thinking
I always wonder why, when a place is closed down and abandoned, they leave everything just like they will be right back. Nobody packs up, recycled anything, or even puts stuff away. It's like they left for a lunchbreak and never came back
Ikr
Amanda mahony its so that no one else gets contaminated with that virus
are you going to pack everything in your house up when a floods coming? A fire is burning or everything is contaminated? Might as well stay...
Amanda mahony I wonder the same exact thing!
I think so. 🤔
I really like how they never take anything. they just leave it there for other people to find or explore. I think that's really cool of them.
Yea it's cool and respectful that they don't take anything it's awesome :)
Surely that would be classed as theft if they did, even if it's abandoned. Well it would in the uk anyway
I'm Catholic and that symbol you saw was the symbol of the cross of God the father. And the relics you saw it's actually normal for any roman catholic churches.
Cool!!! I was wondering what it was
3:26 who ever smashed Jesus head is just straight up immature
Amber Johnson it was me >:D
It's not Jesus. It was made by hand. 😒😒😒
@Morty tf isis gotta do with this?
@@cindydo8781 its a representation of Jesus. Duh.
I just wanna do the same to the person who did it
It just makes me angry
Not gonna lie, every time u guys film yourselves walking away, I always imagine you guys going back to get the camera

Please wear masks and gloves for protection... I saw your catacombs video, picking up centuries old bones without gloves. Do you know how many diseases you could have caught?

I'd call that a Cathedral, it's huge compared to a church, the ornate high ceilings, floor designs etc. Very cool place, not much like that here in the UK. Not abandoned anyway.
Thanks simon i feel its deff a cathedral aswell
Churches are usually that big here in mid europe, a cathedral is much bigger :)

+Simon Ward I was going to comment saying it was like a chapel but then I saw what you actually meant. Very Florentine.
+Simon Ward For it to be a cathedral it would have needed a bishop. It has nothing to do with its size. :)
Why isn't he wearing a mask inside a CONTAMINATED area damn lol
Arianator Fandom i didn't and i went before
Arianator Fandom I KNOW HES F***ING NUTS
because probably not really contaminated lol .saying stuff just for views
yeah its not contaminated ive been 2x
probably was a contaminated area awhile back but viruses die after a certain amount of time with nothing to feed off of
Does anyone think of Outlast when watching this?
Yep
At 6:30 did you find the source of the church melody? I heard it too and that's creepy. Maybe we were hearing music from someone playing on the piano in their past life. Probably the same piano you found in the video.

You guys are my favorite historians ever!!!!! You should pull some history books, so cool, you guys make history fun!!!!
I think that first object was an iron lung used in treatment of polio. You were probably exploring a polio or TB sanitarium.

Ziusudra Also is false to have cross on the ground because is blasphemy to step on it.
the thing at the start is called a iron lung
Yes it is👍🏻.
I was just going to say that.. I was checking to see if someone said it already lol I haven't seen one in years.
The symbol on the ground, well, clearly is the cross, then the four dots my guess would be to represent the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Then the triangles would have to be representation of the Holy Trinity.

Super Slime mostly abandoned place are haunted..empty space and lonely sorrow...
if abandon places are haunted?why even bather to go there?its all in the mind and there is such things as ghost or evil
8:03 I wanna know who thought of the idea to install a tiny ass ceiling fan in a church this huge😑
The church had Roman-Orthodox architecture, with the wide columns, non-pointed arches and especially the domed front. So cool!!!!
did you have a woman with you at the second
church? cause i heard a women ask a question when you said you never seen nothing like this in my life...can't quite make it out though something...then says the boys over there..around 7:39 -7:45..but what a beautiful place also when you were commenting on the mail boxes who said gotta name a male?

I didn't see any girls in your group so who's the girl talking at 7:43?
+Conner Turmon I heard it also. Wtf lol !? Creepy
+Conner Turmon yeap i dont know what there were doing there actually!
Wth I heard it
It said who are you is what I heard but I don't know for sure that's what it said
07:29 It´s a templar´s cross...a neutral templar cross to be most exactly
Go back on 11:13 where he flips the camera away and look behind him something moves or falls down like a cloth or something
Libby Davis ikr it was bugging me
No that's his friend.
0:27 were those bags full of flesh or red shirts? I couldnt tell.
1:18 You should specify if your talking about the movie “28 Days” or “28 Days Later.” Big difference. Ask Pam Beasley.
😂😂😂
Good exploring video. I heard some voices at 7:41 &11:30 . because the sound just sounded consistent with the other comments descriptions.
The yellow thing in the beginning is an iron lung they used it when there was a polio outbreak. just a random fact
That human/ghost looking thing in the background at 10:57 scared the living shit out of me
fr son , wtf is that???
Man I was just remembering grandma talking about the ols iron lung! And this shows up in my feed!! Neat!🙏♥️
that church music was insane, you guys should have recorded in silence longer, it was ghostly and beautiful. also that "who are you" voice was so clear...amazing
the "breathing thing" is called an iron lung
it is not saint Mary it is Virgin Mary
I do not care. That's how I learned it. I am pure catholic.
not bitch
as a catholic st mary and the virgin mary is the same she is the greatest saint
I think it's the same
Nico Armenti 😂😂😂😂😂
Is it just me or there was someone's photo inside the head of the statue at 6:15?
Lucas Araújo I was thinking the same thing I though I was the only one that saw it

The first church was beautiful with all these colorful glass-windows, but the second one?! DAMN!! 😍😍😍
That looked so freaking cool. The art, the high ceilings, the space! Incredible. 🤯😳

I could faintly hear the church music at about 6:54.

I bet the still photos you take at these abandoned places are very beautiful. Do you have a website or anything where people can look at your stills?

More churches please !! :) I subscribed and so did my family for the old churches . thank you we love it.
hey Josh, have you ever considered interviewing local residents and including it in your vids? it would be super cool to get some background info/hear all their memories of some of the places you explore from back in the day when they were thriving :)
so much on there is worth money- church pews, stained glass, statuary, even the computer were pricey, in the time
