Hey everyone! Sorry again for the watermark, tried for a while to get one that wasn't too bad, but hope you enjoyed the reaction!! See you next for Monsters Inc and Hotel Transylvania 2!!
Dude, I watch your videos to see your reaction, not the movie. :) I would prefer to see your screen larger. Alas, I'm the minority I suppose. But we're out here.
I see a lot of people talking about how this movie resonated with them via college but honestly this movie hit me most as a disabled person. The fact that, despite all of his hard work, Mike just can't do what others can is something I think me and a lot of other disabled people can relate to. Some things are just...not possible for you. And it hurts. A lot. but at the same time, it doesn't make you any bit less compared to your peers. Mike couldn't do but he could guide and teach. He had all the knowledge that others needed. He could make others great. I remember starting out this movie thinking it was alright but when it got to the heart to heart speech, I broke. It's a rewatchable movie for years to come just for that scene.
What a new perspective- I never thought of that since there isn’t a very obviously disabled character. Like there’s no blind monster, or one of the jocks gets paralyzed from playing too hard, someone gets badly burned from one of the scream cans exploding, etc. I like that; you opened up my eyes :)
@@AdamIshak01 I think the horizon of what is considered disabled just needs to be broadened. Just cause something isn't a disability among humans, doesn't mean it isn't in the context of the world. @@LangkeeLongkee I completely agree. I mean sometimes it’s extremely obvious (ex: Quasi from Hunchback of Norte Dame), and sometimes it’s noticeable even if it’s a not a “stereotypical textbook disability”. The one movie that comes to my mind right away is in the 1998 animated movie Quest for Camelot which is uses the King Arthur legend for its storyline; all the main characters have a disability while trying to defend themselves, complete a quest, and fight a magically villain. The Double headed Dragon can’t fly, there’s a blind man trying to be a knight, and then just an ordinary fully able bodied woman named Kayley who wants to be a knight and avenge her father by finding the sword of Excalibur. Even though she’s a completely healthy athletic fully abled body human, her disability is being a woman in a man’s world. Everyone in the movie finds an optimistic strong body, and strong minded woman a weakness until she proves them wrong. So I understand what you mean, but I just didn’t see it with MU. This movie has a really great and rare message for kids: you can train all you want, but sometimes you might still not make it, so you might have to have another dream. It sounds like a big bummer, but that's reality, and it's okay. It's upsetting to discover you might not be good enough for something you've always wanted to do, but you can still do many other things
Favorite gag in this is the "Winds of Change" poster Randall has by his bed. I agree about the scene by the lake, it knocks the film out of the park. I was really impressed that they were willing to address how desires don't always match with reality, and gives a healthy way to cope with that. Plus I liked how they acknowledged a non-college route as a viable option.
Here are some two actors that I never knew were in this movie: Professor Knight is voiced by Alfred Molina, who’s known for playing Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home! And the monster at the beginning of the film (Frank McCay) is voiced by John Kranskini, who’s known for playing Jim Halpert in The Office, my favorite show of all time!
The message in this movie I feel is very underrated. How many movies hammer in the moral of 'you can do/be anything, if you work hard enough/want it badly enough" ? Like... no. That aint how real life works. you CAN'T be anything you want. And teaching this to young kids is gonna result in them being ill prepared for disappointment when real life hits them. Don't get me wrong, it's great to send the hint of 'ward work is admirable and can increase your chance of succes, but it''s not a guarantee." This movie however, tells that no....your WANT is not always the same as your NEED. But if your initial dream doesn't come true, that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Try different things in life, because there is def something out there that you ARE good at.
No, Billy Crystal co-starred in "When Harry Met Sally," "City Slickers," "Running Scared," "Analyze This," and he had a wonderful cameo role in "The Princess Bride." He's a wonderful actor with great comedic timing. :)
Personally, I don't mind the watermark, Infact I barely notice it. And the whole reason you're my favorite reaction channel, is because you make videos like these. An entire fucking hour of content, of course it's not an hour of the movie but an hour of again, "content". I just really appreciate the fact that you make your videos so long.
The scare professor was right. To her, they were two students not really caring about it and instead fighting with each other. One of them just didn't try and thought his natural ability would be enough, which is extremely false for University; you might have an easier time compared to the others, but you will still have to struggle and learn a lot. The other is good as an instructor for how to scare children, but a real scarer needs to look scary even if they don't try to
Helen Mirren's performance as Dean Hardscrabble is amazing, despite not having many lines in the movie, she absolutely kills every scene her character is in
Watching this movie again now that I am 3rd year university student made me connect with it on a personal level as I have my own challenges in university with studying online, (born prematurely and had brain hemorrhage) giving the faculty a medical letter to say i need extra support. I made it halfway through 3rd year and this movie inspired me to keep going.
so many good messages for anyone at any stage in life 😭 sullivan telling mike he is “fearless” is ughhh so amazing. i just love that realistically that they got kicked out and they had to start from the bottom up and mike coming to terms that he’s not scary is good too because they often portray a lot in these Pixar/Disney movies that you can do anything you set your mind to and sometimes that’s just not realistic and that’s okay! but we’re all unique and have our own strengths! and i also love the character development for these two, and i love that even tho this movie came after the first and is a prequel, everything about the characters personality and development in monster’ inc. felt justified by what happened in monsters university if that makes sense. they matched up and you can see how their dynamic as partners and best friends makes sense. it’s feels as tho monsters university was created before monsters inc. It’s perfect 🥲
I love that you've decided to watch this one first, considering that most of people watched Monsters inc first, is good to see someone watching this before the original for a different point of view.
This is one of those movies that I went to watch in the theater SO MANY TIMES. Either alone or with my best friend. Shows just how much I loved it, and still do.
This is a pretty funny prequel to Monsters Inc, showing us the origin of Sully and Mike's friendship, but in college they were rivals, and would later set aside their differences and learn to work together as a team.
I remember this movie came out and everyone pretty much graded it a C/B- because everyone said it was good but not as good as the first one which I don’t know why. I feel like whether you’re a little children, a high school student, college student, parent, an adult with a job, etc, this movie relates to so many age groups and races since the monsters are obviously very diverse. And after reading some of the comments, which gave me a new perspective, a lot of disabled people really loved and related to this movie. This movie hits so many good points in regards to friendships, bullies, family legacies vs your own happiness, and apparently as I learned from other comments, a metaphor for disability. Pixar has always been amazing at showing people even if you have an idea or a plan, and it doesn’t work out without the happy ending you thought, that’s there’s still so many other great opportunities for you- and that you shouldn’t just box yourself in with one idea, or one plan, or one career. This movie more than any of the other ones amplifies that. Edit: Thank you to everyone who mentioned the disability metaphor. I never really noticed or thought of that so I have a new perspective and respect for this movie :)
I too, saw this in theaters before seeing the original on dvd. And aside from the animation quality dip and the original's "fourth grade" line, everything flows very naturally, like the prequel was planned from the start.
I don't think the "fourth grade" line ruins anything because if you don't take it literally, it still makes sense. like, he could have been saying it as hyperbole and not like he literally knew him since the fourth grade.
It's nice to find someone else who appreciates this film as much as I do. I legit found this better than the first one simply because the characters are more interesting here. Yes, it deliberately contradicts the first one by having Mike and Sully meet in college when the first one mentions they were childhood friends. Yes, it has a less inventive premise. But interesting characters can more than make up for a weak premise, and this movie proves that.
I never saw Monsters University. But I do remember seeing Monsters Inc when it first came out on home video at my aunt and uncle's house. My dad was helping my uncle fix his (my uncle's) truck, and my aunt showed us Monsters Inc to keep us entertained.

I had a good time watching Monsters University. I went to a movie theater to see it and in my opinion it was a very nice origin story for Mike and Sully. Thanks for the reaction, Nick!
Excellent reaction! I grew up watching the original and I got to see it on ice. And I was glad that they had made a prequel to explain to us how did Sulley and Mike come to work together. What you can take from this film is that everyone has different talents; that is what makes them special. Mike may not be scary to be a scarer, but he is fearless and smart to be a scarer’s assistant. I highly recommend after you watch monsters Inc., you can check out it’s sequel series Monsters at work. That will give you more information and fundamentals of how the business works at the corporation. 💙💜💛💚👹
I really like this movie. I like it more than the first one. It's also a really good allegory for disability in a great way. A lot of stories like to spread this message of "you can do anything you set your mind to" and while that's nice for kids it's idealistic, and it's simply not true. There are some things that I can try and try but I can't do, if I really could just suck it up, believe in myself and do it, I wouldn't be disabled, that's kinda the point. A paraplegic person can't realistically just suck it up and run an advanced marathon, but maybe they might discover they're really good at piano, they find something they can do that works for them and they enjoy. Yes there are things we can work harder for, and things that accomodations can be made for (like prosthetics and such) but sometimes we can't do things. And that should be okay. Messages like you really can just try hard and do even the impossible leads to people forcing people like me into dangerous and uncomfortable situations because they think we should be able to just do it. This movie has so many cool messages, and that's one of them that I really like.
I believe that There is no "dumb" questions . You are just honestly reacting to what you are watching in real time. Like you have said before, you have found that many of your questions in the beginning are answered for you as you go along. You recognize this but we don't necessary see you recognize this unless you tell us. Anyway, i love the emotions you put into your reactions. Very entertaining.
As a huge monster's inc fan I was worried when they wanted to release a prequel. I thought they would change things and ruin it for me. I'm glad I was wrong! This movie made me laugh and cry so much when I saw it, I can't wait for you to see the original!
wow! I've never really seen anyone watch Monsters University before watching Monsters, Inc. but I don't think it ruins the experience. this was a great reaction! @@videohistory722 Pixar takes 2 seconds of a movie, lets a furry headed monster with glasses pour himself with paint and smack it on a canvas followed by an energetic percussion solo of another monster. When this movie first came out, I didn't want to see it. I wasn't in college yet and I just didn't know how to feel about a prequel. Since I grew up watching the original I thought the movie wouldn't have a strong plot since I know by Monster's Inc Mike and Sully were the best of friends. But this movie surprised me that it was really good. Plus the monster designs are still amazing and fun. It was interesting to see you watch this one first though. Glad you enjoyed it!
It's so cool that you're watching the prequel before the original, that's pretty rare. Although some people don't like this movie, it's definitely a better film in the 2010's for Pixar, especially regarding sequels/prequels. Watching this before Monsters Inc. definitely brings a new perspective without the knowledge of Mike's role in the it.
The movie wasn't that really well received on release, but personally, I think this is Pixar's most underrated movie. I wouldn't put it up there with Pixar's best, but I think it does a good job at giving us a better understanding of Mike and Sully's relationship.

Don't get me wrong, it's great to send the hint of 'ward work is admirable and can increase your chance of succes, but it''s not a guarantee."
This movie however, tells that no....your WANT is not always the same as your NEED. But if your initial dream doesn't come true, that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Try different things in life, because there is def something out there that you ARE good at.
Don't worry about watching this first, Nick. It makes perfect sense, and it doesn't matter how you do it since you were still watching both.
Love that you did this one first before watching the original!!
Nick: "oh okay I thought it was gon...."
*Scream canister goes flying*
Nick : 👁️👄👁️
This is a pretty funny prequel to Monsters Inc, showing us the origin of Sully and Mike's friendship, but in college they were rivals, and would later set aside their differences and learn to work together as a team.
I love how this movie shows how Mike and Sullivan become best friends, very good origin story. They work very well together as best friends.
48:17 "You're just like old Bagheera!"
Coincidentally, Sully's VA, John Goodman, also voiced Baloo in _The Jungle Book 2_ .

Fun fact, the blue monster we see at the beginning, Frank McCay is voiced by John Krasinski who played in The Office and A Quiet Place.
Oh ! I've got another fun fact, Randall Bogg is voiced by Steve Buscemi.
I don't know if anyone said this already:
Sulley is voiced by John Goodman
I'm going to college in August and this movie is one of my favorites.
55:53 - Sully is so scary of a monster he scared you without even meaning to.
I never saw Monsters University. But I do remember seeing Monsters Inc when it first came out on home video at my aunt and uncle's house. My dad was helping my uncle fix his (my uncle's) truck, and my aunt showed us Monsters Inc to keep us entertained.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊

I love Pixar's Monsters University (2013). It's a very good movie, and it's a prequel to Pixar's Monsters Inc (2001).
As a huge monster's inc fan I was worried when they wanted to release a prequel. I thought they would change things and ruin it for me. I'm glad I was wrong! This movie made me laugh and cry so much when I saw it, I can't wait for you to see the original!
I watched Monsters University before attending college. LOL
wow! I've never really seen anyone watch Monsters University before watching Monsters, Inc. but I don't think it ruins the experience. this was a great reaction! I remember when MU first came out, I kinda refused to watch it because I loved Monsters, Inc so much and didn't want to see it ruined. I was so happy to be proven wrong when I finally broke down and watched it recently. I'm excited to see your reaction to Monsters, Inc. and see you connect all the dots ❤️
Hope you feel better soon Nick.
Thank you!
Look at: 9:35
This is one of the best jokes in animation history and Nick sits there like nothing happened. 😁 Every time I watch that movie, I have to rewind a couple of times and watch that joke over and over. Absolutely hilarious! If the person that came up with it reads this. You're a genius! Thank you for your work!
I don't get it. Whats the joke?
@@videohistory722 Pixar takes 2 seconds of a movie, lets a furry headed monster with glasses pour himself with paint and smack it on a canvas followed by an energetic percussion solo of another monster.
People are debating for centuries on how to 'properly combine' painting and music. There are over 10 Minute long videos of people talking about the combination of painting and music in theory on TH-cam...
Who of them would've guessed it is actually that simple?
I love the scene where Sully redeems himself.
Not better than the first movie, but still a great lesson. Not everyone is going to be good at something, but you can always find something similar or related to it. Or maybe find a new thing you might not know you'll love.
I honestly love Monsters Inc, and I hadn't watched this one too many times, but it was so cool to see all the easter eggs in this movie related to the original! I'm so excited for your reaction to Monsters Inc, I'd say it's my favourite Pixar movie ever! Great reaction Nick, hope you enjoy the first one too!
I saw this in December 2013 with my family and they loved it! My older sister said that Mike as a child is so cute!
I thought it was definitely so smart for you to watch monsters university before monsters inc because ever since I was ten when I was a biggest fan of monsters inc I thought monsters university does take place before monsters inc.
If you enjoy Monsters Inc I would recommend checking out Monsters at Work, its a TV show based on Monsters Inc. Monsters Inc is one of my favourite pixar films, and I do think that MU is pretty great!
I’m so glad you reacted to this! It’s one of my favorite Pixar movies!
Thanks nick for reacting to monster's University hope you're feeling better anyways mike wazowski the green one eye monster was voiced by billy crystal and Sullivan the big blue monster was voiced by John Goodman I was wondering after you do both monster's University and inc im hoping for an animated Charlotte's web 1973 reaction it's animated musical adaptation of EB white's children's book before the live action version was released in 2006 it was made by Hanna Barbera from paramount pictures the first animated movie of the studio not to be based on a tv series what I remember about it watching it on vhs is that Debbie Reynolds was the voice of Charlotte the spider she was the mother of Carrie Fisher for playing princess Leia from the original star wars trilogy Debbie was known for playing Kathy selden from singing in the rain 1952 with gene Kelly as Don lookwood one of my favorite musical movies of all time.
"I guess most people know him from Monsters Inc."
Yeah, you need to start reacting to Billy Crystal movies.
He had a long career as a comedian before Monsters Inc!
Excellent Nick! It's good that you already saw Monsters University, although I think it would have been better to see Monsters INC first, because the truth is I really enjoyed seeing that one first, since Monsters University is the prequel. I recommend that you watch A Monster In Paris (2011), the story is very beautiful, although it will remind you of Beauty and the Beast, but you will enjoy it. Take good care of yourself, Nick and I’ll wait for your next reaction
This movie gets a lot of undeserved hate, but it has SUCH an important message!
55:53 had me cracking up laughing.
I am super excited to finally see a movie reaction soon to Monsters Inc AND Hotel transylvania 2!!! Hope you enjoy/enjoyed watching them and cannot wait to see them soon!!
Looks good enough. Can't wait to see your reaction to Monsters Inc and what ya think after watching this now.
28:48 I don't know why but I feel in love with that goth monster
Sorry for being impatient with you, yesterday. Get well soon, Nick.
25:19 i would honestly be more scared to see a one eye yellow balloon monster in real life than a blue bear
The movie wasn't that really well received on release, but personally, I think this is Pixar's most underrated movie. I wouldn't put it up there with Pixar's best, but I think it does a good job at giving us a better understanding of Mike and Sully's relationship.
Agreed. That lake scene especially is one of the best ones
Looking forward to this reaction, great film but like a lot of people I seen Monsters Inc first 😅
Would love to know if you've seen sweet tooth (Netflix series, one season with another otw) and if not if you'd consider reacting to it? Would really like to hear/see your opinions/reactions :)
The last day of my Junior year of High school is Tommorow. One more year and then I’ll be off to college myself.
I'm getting a feeling that party is a way for those guys to say that they're in complete denial that Oozma Kappa has made it as far as the rest of them
Such a good movie but i like Monsters Inc more😍
this always made me miss college! sucha good movie!

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years nearly since this came out I remember as if it was yesterday my mum took me to watch this 😢
This came out a few years after I graduated college so it was fun to see monster college life.
I love this film it's so amazing
Honestly where Mike was in this movie is where I'm at in life right now. I only recently discovered what I wanted to do with my life, and now that I have, I'm itching to get started too.
And yes I'm frustrated because I'm following a transfer guide.
I relate so hard to the snail monster, because I was almost late my first day of college. I made it there early, but then realized I left all my books and materials in the dorm and had to rush back.
i can't wait for you to check out Monsters Inc.!
I honestly was wondering if that scare at the ending with the bus was going to get him at all! It freaked the heck out of me when I first watched it! 🤣🤣🤣
Aww I do wish u had watched this one after watching the first, I think the whole experience is just so much better that way
You’re better off watching this prequel movie Monsters U first before Inc.
Good call, Nick!
This is totally the best prequel hands down
I been waiting for this Let's go!!😁😀🤩
One thing always bothered me about the worldbuilding- why couldn't a less scary monster wear facepaint or like a costume that made them look scarier
Every time I see your new vid, I think "omg nick is doing my fav movie 🥰"
Love your reactions to movies
Johnny depp’s the professor I think it’s good 👍🏻
The lake scene is honestly so good
This movie is as good as Monster’s Inc if not better. I love the message.
