I was at a conference once, and the worship was wonderful, we were all engaged in the singing and we could literally feel the joy and wonderful peace of God, when the song was over we all started clapping, and soon after the worship leader said, “don’t clap, this is not a concert”, I was so interrupted by his comment, and I could sense the atmosphere change from one moment peace to one of confusion, he was judging our hearts and had no right to do so cause what was done was in an orderly manner. Boo to him! How can one worship without using the body? It begins by using our tongues. Thank you so much for your explanation. I recently started joining reformed theology church, and have visited a few others, and it appears they’re terrified of expressing there worship such as clapping and lifting hands.
I’m the didn’t cry at his wedding and my wife doesn’t let me forget kind of guy. Not an emotional showy guy per se, but I do want to grow into someone who’s expressive towards God. Looking forward to the next podcast. God bless! 😊

Circumstances have recently placed me in a more "staid" church than what has been my experience since 1973. The desire to expressively worship is still there in me, but in respect to those around me, I avoid being too "big" with my worship. I was shocked the first time someone in the group up front that leads the singing came to me and told me that my worship was an ecouragement and brought joy to them. I'm still trying to find balance when I want to worship for that "audience of one," yet know the singers up front see me.
How much do we have to bear in mind that the old covenant was very much to do with the outward and the physical? Whereas in the new covenant, as Hebrews tells us, we are coming to what may not be seen. Also, until I studied it recently, I had not realised that in the old covenant, only the Levites were allowed to sing and play instruments in Temple worship. Of course, those things were 'shadowy and pointing to Christ. And we are the priesthood of all believers.
Another thought: Bob, you appear to contradict yourself. You say 'don't be concerned about what others think, praise God as you should. Then you say 'be mindful of those around you so that you don't distract'. How do you do both at the same time?

That’s the whole point. Find the middle. God is Love, but God is the Judge. He is the Son and the Father, right?
