The weasley twins are played by actual twins, but they got asked so much if they were real twins/brothers or if they just got cast because they coincidentally look alike and they’d joke that “yeah, no, we met for the first time at the audition, it freaked us out too” lol
What annoyed me was the films seemed to forget about the whole no magic outside school rule with the Lumos under the covers spell. In the books he used a torch to do his homework. If he had used the Lumos spell, he would have gotten either another letter or expelled for using magic outside of school. He was nearly expelled for Dobby using magic in the Dursleys. That spell, whether I'm front of muggles or not. Would have gotten him expelled.
@@Cinesta76 the weirdest thing is that the movie is aware magic is forbidden, because Uncle Vernon says it when Harry runs away. (and in that sense, yes, lumos maxima is kinda a joke, as it should not been there)
A few quick facts that weren’t explained in the movie. - You have to be registered with the ministry in order to be an animagus so they can keep track of you. Sirius was not registered so that’s why he was able to hide for so long. - Harry’s dad James, Sirius and Peter all secretly found a way to become animagus while they were in school so that they could sneak out of the castle and keep Lupin company during the full moons. Sirius being a dog, Peter a rat and James a stag. - The reason why lupin new about the marauders map was because him, James, Sirius and Peter created it. They knew all the secret passages of the castles because of all the sneaking around they did as animals. - The shrieking shack was build by Dumbledore for Lupin back when he was a student so that he could spend the full moons safely away. And it’s called the shrieking shack because of all the noises people would hear coming from there thinking it’s haunted which was actually just Lupin turning into a werewolf
I will never forgive the screenwriters for skipping the entire Marauders backstory. This is both my favorite book and movie out of the rest, and the only thing that kept the movie from being absolute perfection to me was that one element.
The funny thing is that in the books Harry himself is annoyed with passing out lol. Of course, there’s more magic in the books because we see more of their classes and day to day activity. Harry did do magic in the second movie; in the dueling club he did a spell against Malfoy, and he used a spell to get rid of spiders when they were in the car. And in this one he used untamed magic to blow up his aunt, and used his wand to do the spell to summon light under his covers at the beginning. Oh, and he did a patronus which is VERY advanced for his age. Hermione is made overly perfect in the movies, but in the books she sometimes struggles to perform magic under pressure. Specifically in this year, she messes up on her Defense Against the Dark Arts final, and Harry is the top of that class.
Prisoner of Azkaban has always been one of my favorites, but the one thing that always bothers me about this movie is the spell at the beginning. It doesn't make sense for Harry to be doing a spell to light his wand and read under the covers when he's not supposed to do magic in the summer, especially with him immediately getting a letter after Dobby used a spell in CoS, and when he freaked out and left after blowing up Marge a few scenes later, and then the dementors a few books/movies later.
@@notjustafangirl7313 If I remember correctly there's an explanation for that (maybe even in the books - don't quote me on that tho). They're supposed to do an assignment over the course of the summer about the lumos maxima spell or something like that which is why they get a special permission to perform this spell. In the scene in the movie you can see there are infos about this spell written in the book. Implying he's doing the assignment :3
@@TiredHumanBeing You couldn't have made a more goofy and stupid comment if you tried. Harry is good at combat and Defense Against the Dark Arts, while Hermoine is better than him in a lot of other stuff without mentioning being more knowledgeable in general. You would have needed to read the books bleeding from your eyes to believe the stupid idea that Harry was good at everything. Am sure he would have found you just as stupid while worrying about his exams that were oh so very easy for him.
@@MajorLawliet LOL I forgot about this comment, but honestly dude, be mad I guess, so I messed up the lore a bit, no need to get upset, but honestly you gotta admit it's a common trope.
“You’re not allowed to do magic outside of school...” “Yeah, try me.” That line may be my favourite part of the movie, so proud of Harry in that moment.
Yes but it's like they forgot in the first 2 movies and the next ones. In the first and second movie Hermione do the Reparo spell for Harry's broken glasses in the train, and other spells as well outside the school.. that shouldn't exist.
Here’s something for you Billy, to help you feel the story a bit more. Do you want to know what harry ACTUALLY hears when the dementors attack him? It’s not just a scream. It’s this: “Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry!” “Stand aside, you silly girl... stand aside, now...” “Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead -” “Not Harry! Please... have mercy... have mercy...” He literally hears Voldemort murdering his mother. Not just some disembodied scream. It’s devastating. The books are a lot more raw.
Also a good point to mention is the theory (maybe JK commented on it already) that dementors are more focused on Harry because of that Voldy’s piece of soul withon him, and that night when his parents were killed were the worst memory both for Harry and Voldy
I like how billy catches really obscure details about stuff and is so observant, but at the same time doesn’t hear or forgets really simple information that is told to him 😂
@@BillyBinges whats funny is you said harrys uncle looks like Mrs trunchball in Number 1 and they actually casted the actress to play his sister in this move 😅 you predicted it!
If you read through PoA again you might find that every prediction does come true. The question apparently was never if Divination was working or not but instead simply whether they would correctly interpret the signs. For example throughout the year Trelawney keeps bringing up the black dog in most predictions concerning Harry. She thinks it must be the grim. But on one hand it might be about the literal black dog, Sirius in his animagus form, but also might forshadow the events in DH. Trelawney does keep that up for the next two years and only during his OWL in OotP she does predict that Harry will live a long and happy life. At the time it seems contradicting but it does come true in DH. But Divination simply working is also the logical conclusion if you take into account how time turners work. They do simply not work as that staged fanfiction Cursed Child suggests. In Hagrid's Hut it is plain to see that Rowling decided to make time travel in Harry Potter either completely deterministic or (knowingly or not) to work accordingly to Novikov's self-conistency principle. The future is already determined/consistent by/with the present and past.
the kids rarely use magic because they're STILL LEARNING IT. and the adults use it plenty, but most of the spells they use are non-verbal. calm down, billy! just have fun watching!
According to the school rules, they're not even allowed to do magic between classes. They've been learning the basics the first couple of years and are still very limited with their power and knowledge of magic, spells etc. Aaand the movies actually super overused non-verbal spells, which in reality are very hard to do and easy to mess up. Dumbledore of course is someone who mostly only uses non-verbal magic.
And Harry did plenty of magic in this one, with the "Expecto Patronum." That's as hard spell to master even for grown wizards, and he took on several hundred dementors at the age of 13. He's a powerful wizard when he tries.
22:28 Werewolves are resistant to conventional magic spells. Covered in the book. It’s why Remus’s buddies became animagi: to keep an eye on him when roaming the grounds on the full moon instead of him being cooped up in the Shrieking Shack and hurting himself. Harry saving himself was akin to a self-fulfilling prophecy. It isn’t Avengers time travel, but Back to the Future style. Also in the book: The Marauders of the Map are Moony (Remus Lupin), Wormtail (Peter Pettigrew), Padfoot (Sirius Black), and Prongs (James Potter). The original troublemakers at Hogwarts: a werewolf and his three animagi friends-rat, dog, and stag.
Not Back to the Future. Marty and Doc mess up time and create new timelines. I would say it's more like Terminator. Where trying to change the past to stop John Conner from ever being born is in fact what causes him to be born. They were always meant to time travel and so was Harry.
The reason Harry has to return every year is for protection. It's never really explained in the movies, but it has to do with his mother's sacrifice & he's most protected while being able to call a house living with blood relatives (from his mother's side) a "home". Basically it's a protective spell. It's been a long time since I last read the books, but it was something along those lines.
@@ms_scribbles They have mentioned the protection, but they didn't get much into details really. They said Lily's sacrifice protected Harry from Voldemort when he was a baby, but they said nothing about having a home & living with blood relatives from his mother's side - that it's crucial for that protection to go on.
Aunt Marge blows up because when Harry yelled at her to shut up, he'd unintentionally conjured a wandless silencing spell. When done incorrectly, the silencing spell makes the victim swell up like a balloon.
Also, Aunt Marge was Miss Trunchbull, the principal in Matilda which is even funnier because Billy asked if she was related to Harry's Uncle in the 1st film XD
“I did my waiting! Twelve years of it, in Azkaban!” Bruh, EVERYONE was saying that when we were kids 😂 If you told me to wait for anything my dumbass would really go, “I did my waiting! Twelve years of it, in Azkaban!” No cap 😂😂
When my daughter (now 15) tells me that she's sick of waiting for something, I ask: "Have you waited 12 years in Azkaban?" And then I laugh and she usually doesn't.
Hey Billy, in the first movie you commented that you thought Uncle Vernon looked like the Trunchbull from Matilda. Well, it just so happens that the actress who played his sister Aunt Marge is the very same actress as the Trunchbull, Pam Ferris LOL
About Hermione being the only one using magic, Billy, this wasn't how it was in the books. The books were like Harry, Ron and Hermione contributed their skills equally into the trio. Idk why the movie makers were so obsessed with making Hermione a Mary Sue, cuz they gave her many of Ron's lines and the contribution went to her contributing the most. Hermione's mostly book-smart, Ron's more of street-smart and actually does stand up to bullies. And you'll see more of Harry's magic in later movies
The movie makers were obsessed with doing it because the director, especially in this movie, Hermione was his favourite character so there was some bias towards her
@@rex8329 Not the director, the screenwriter, Steve Kloves. If I recall correctly, he said she's a great for exposition, so he kind of exploited her role as such.
@@SailorSetsuna7 it's so ironic that he said that hermione is good for exposition, which she is to an extent, but I don't understand why he didn't use the one character around harry that's been brought up in the wizarding world, Ron, to explain how the wizarding world works like the books do. instead, Ron seemingly doesn't know anything about the world he's been living in his whole life, but hermione who's been here for 2 years knows everything because since she's the smart girl she's not allowed to just not know things??
@@clarasundqvist6013 Literally, like Ron is the one supposed to be doing that, even I think in the books he explains how the term m*dblood is wrong to Harry and Hermione but no! Hermione is the smartest of all
@@serenarb6167 he does! hermione understands that it's a slur of some kind because of everyones reaction to it, but it's Ron that provides the context and actual definition of the term, which he should!! and as much as I love prisoner of Azkaban, the fact the he one, agrees with Snape during the DADA class, and two, isn't given his protective moment in the shrieking shack, make me so mad every time I think about them
When I see Billy's confusion, I just realize how little they explain in the movies compared to the books. He says we didn't learn anything about his father, and it is sadly true. In the books, we learned that James, Sirius, Remus and Peter were all friends (they say it briefly in the movies), and that they all became animagii to help Remus when he transformed into a werewolf. That's why Harry's patronus is a deer : he know his father used to transform into a deer. They also created the marauders map together. And I assume that's why it roasted Snape so well. We also learn that as a prank, Sirius lead Snape to the place where Remus transformed into a werewolf at night. Remus attacked him, but he was saved by Harry's father.
We just rewatched OotP recently and my bf did not get what I said about Snape's memory. It never occured to him before that Lupin, Sirius and Wormtail were even in that scene. He has seen the movies many, many times but did not even read all the books once.
They don’t use much magic in the beginning because they don’t know it yet. They are still 13 year old school kids. As the series progresses they learn many more advanced (and illegal) spells. Also Sirius Black is named after the constellation Sirius- the dog The Marauder’s Map was created by Harry’s dad and his friends who were all animagi (they could turn into animals) Moony- Remus Lupin (the Werewolf) Worm tail- Peter Petigrew (the rat) Padfoot- Sirius Black (the dog) Prongs (another name for antlers) was Harry’s dad James Potter (the Stag) They became animagi while in school to keep Remus company during his werewolf transformations.
Harry wasn’t scared when he was learning expecto patronom. He has so little happy moments in his life that he could not figure out a happy enough memory to make the spell powerful enough. Most adult wizards can’t even cast a patronus. And Harry did it at like 13 years old
@@TiredHumanBeingso Hermione can do spells first time but you all hate in Harry when he does it first time Harry was described in the books was intelligent but they dumbed him and Ron down to make Hermione more important
Billy I’m still over the moon that you are watching literally my favorite movie series. They are 13 so they don’t know much defensive/offensive magic. Hermoine uses time travel to get to her classes so she does more each semester so she does more reading hence knows more. Keep pushing em out!!! 😍
I was just talking to my cousin about HP this morning. Between that convo and this video coming out, makes me think I should do my annual re-read of the series. Also, Billy asking if Sirius and Lupin were lovers sent me. Billy, if only you knew the stories fans write about those two.
The scene with the boys eating the candy was such a wholesome moment to me, just hanging out with your roomies, making memories and whatnot. I'm so excited for number 4 because it's my favorite. 🥰
I also think it's the one scene they do Ron right. He looks so hot when he roars! (I was 15 when these movies came out so i feel like it's okay to say that)😁
The fact that Billy knows Hermione’s last name but keeps calling her “Heather” is both baffling and hilarious! The reason why they don’t use much magic at this point is because they are still young and only know what they’ve learned. Harry learning the Patronus Charm is considered VERY advanced for his age. Lupin was only willing to teach Harry that to protect him from the dementors (the “demons”/the guards of Azkaban Prison). The dementors feed onto happy memories. Meaning they’ll suck out the happiness from you until there is no happiness left. The Patronus Charm is powered by whatever happy memory you can focus on when casting it.
The reason that no one (not even the adults) were using magic against Lupin when he was a werewolf is because werewolves are magical creatures and it would take more than just Snape to take him down. They'd need at least 5 very powerful witches or wizards to take him down with magic. If Snape had tried to do anything, it just would have made Lupin angrier. This sort of thing is shown again in the Order of The Pheonix book (the 5th book) when like 5 Aurors (the police of the wizarding world) try to stun Hagrid with magic. Hagrid is half-giant and Giants are magical creatures so the spells didn't affect him and he was able to run off. Hope that cleared up the confusement.
14:48 “Are these boys actually twins?” They met at the auditions! 😋 Kidding, it’s a joke James and Oliver Phelps (the actors playing Fred and George) made once when they were asked if they were really twins.
One thing I don't like about this movie is how much they downplayed Hermione's flaws and gave her all of Ron and Harry's ideas and accomplishments. Hermione is already brilliant, she does not have to be everything
The, last film I considered good before a significant downturn afterward. 4 was OK, 5 was iffy, 6 was meh, 7 part one I didn't like and I actually haven't seen the last one.
The reason they don't use a whole lot of magic in these earlier films is because they're still so young and are learning it. It would be weird if they were able to perform really complicated spells at the age of 13. They only know basic ones, which is why Hermione is the only one that u think uses spells cuz she's ahead of everyone else ALWAYS haha. So as the movies go on they learn more and more magic and it shows their natural progression into their magical knowledge and talents. I think these early films are vital to form the characters' willpower and courage and then they add the actual magical abilities into the mix later.
Billy since you have many questions I’ll my best to answer the ones I remember: - Every film will start off on Harry’s birthday, July 31st (the character, not the actor) -Whatever the number movie it is, thats how many years Harry is into his teenage years. So because this was the 3rd film, hes 13. And he will be 14 in the next movie and so on and so forth. -You asked this in the first movie and no, the first film didnt not take place in a day, if you were paying close enough attention you wouldve seen that they celebrated both Halloween and Christmas. -Harry cast a spell in the second film, when he was dueling Draco -Yes the Weasley Twins are actually twins -No there are no repercussions for Harry saving himself, because it was all looped. -And if you haven’t caught it already, the ongoing joke with the Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers. Every year they get a new one.
I was so happy when you asked if Remus and Sirius were lovers because it’s one of the most popular non-canon ships in the series! And personally it’s my favorite ship in the series! But technically no they aren’t, in the books they were just “best friends” but the fans were the ones who thought it was something more.
2:20 The Harry Potter movies, like the books, occur across one year per installment. Harry was 11 years old in Philosophers Stone, 12 in Chamber of Secrets, 13 in Prisoner of Azkaban, etc. The easiest way to remember it is that Hogwarts has 7 years of education before students graduate and they typically start their first year at age 11.
the adults were using magic in the shrieking shack to try to stop pettigrew, but the magic kept missing because he was a small rat darting around lol. the children have not had great defense against the dark arts teachers so far, aside from lupin.
I really dislike how they made Hermione this overly perfect in the movies. She's one of my least faves in the books but I love her character in the movies, which sucks because the movies made Ron and Harry look very inferior to Hermione when in the books, they are more balanced in my eyes. Also, in the books, I have never questioned why Harry Potter is the lead because he's very competent, but in the movies, they really made Hermione so superior that makes the audience question why she isn't the main character. It sucks for the characters of Harry and Ron.
@@lilianpavon5850 she was, which was one of the reasons JK was so happy with having him as producer, since everyone else she met usually listed Ron as their favorite character. it's a shame that his love for hermione warped the whole narrative to make her the perfect strong female character, giving harry or Ron's (or even on occasion Dumbledore!!) character moments to her to make her seem all-knowing. it's even reflected in her looks, since she becomes more and more conventionally attractive as time goes on, so much so that the makeover in movie 4 doesn't really hit because they just put a pretty girl in a nice dress. like, they couldn't help that Emma Watson would grow up to look the way she did, but they could use makeup and hairstyling to at least let her keep the bushy hair, which is more or less perfect in movie 1
I actually refused to watch the movies after the first two for a very long time, because of how much they butchered and re-arranged things. I've made my peace with them and can just enjoy them for what they are now, but I agree - I like movie Hermione much more than book Hermione
I get the argument, but honestly I prefer movie Hermione to book Hermione for PoA. I genuinely hate the third book because I feel like it shelves Hermione who is supposed to be the smart female role model until she’s needed for time-Turner exposition before making her go and hide in Hagrid’s hut like a wuss 😬 I understand she’s a child and scared but given I watched the film before I read the book I was super disappointed. I felt the third book could have been done better tbh, but that might just be personal opinion because I don’t really like Rowling’s writing style overall
@@edenrose4912 this movie is probably overall the one I'm least bothered by, aside from when she gets the "if you want to kill harry you'll have to kill us too" from ron since it just adds to ron being the least utilized character in the movie series overall. and I haven't read the books in at least 3 years, so I can't really remember what my thoughts on it are, but I'd probably agree with you. I don't have a problem with movies making different creative decisions from its source material if it takes something and improves it (how the hunger games movies made Effie an actual character for example), and I think the movies do that in some instances, but in the case of hermione overall, the changes made fundamentally change the dynamic within the golden trio so that it becomes the "they wouldn't have survived without hermione" joke, when it should always have been that they can't survive without each other, which sort of becomes clear when ron leaves in book 7 and harry and hermione are just miserable the whole time
The movies are all really good from here on out, a lot more magic is used by Harry and a lot or other characters. Also fun facts for you: - Harry’s pratronus is a stag, just like his dads animagus form was a stag. - Harry can here Lilly scream when the dementors come because the whole purpose of the dementors is that they feed off of happy memories to leave you with only the bad memories, and since Lilly dying to save Harry was Harry’s worst memory, he hears her scream. And in the books he doesn’t just hear her dream but sees flashes of green light (the killing curse), a high pitched evil laugh (Voldy) and I think some of his dads last words to his mum when Voldy finds Harry’s house. - Lupins Boggart turned into a moon for him cause ya know werewolf guy. - Don’t know if this was mentioned in the movie but the reason why snape hated James so much wasn’t just because of bullying and what not, but because James saved Snape from lupin one time on a full moon, and say they were like enemies, it was the worst thing that James could do in snapes mind, and therefore by protecting Harry, he feels as if he is repaying that debt - The marauders map is made by James, Sirius, Lupin and Peter. The nicknames on the map: Moony = Lupin, James = Prongs, Sirius = Padfoot, Peter = Wormtail. Pleaseeeeeeee do the next Harry Potter movies soon. Your reactions are priceless.
I highly recommend getting the audiobooks if you genuinely like the series. The first 3 movies are the most canon you're gonna get. The books have way more magic - magic that's divided between Harry, Hermione and Ron, instead of just giving Hermione every single achievement like they do in the movies. Half the reason you think Hermione is so great is because they literally just gave her all of Harry's and Ron's achievements, while simultaneously making her gorgeous instead of average-looking and removing all of her arrogance and stubbornness that is in the books. Some guy who worked on these movies (don't remember the name) just loved Hermione so they let him ruin everyone else's characters to turn her into a perfect goddess.
A lot more magic is used in the books billy! Though, if you count movies, Harry used a spell in Draco in chamber of secrets. The number of the book/movie means what age or year he’s in. Prisoner of Azkaban, 13 years old, and so on. that the Weasley twins gifted Harry was created by James (Harry’s dad) Sirius black, Peter Pettigrew and Remus lupin (the DADA teacher) The Weasley twin actors are actual twins.
It’s more obvious when you’re reading the books (especially because there are people mentioned in the books that are skipped in the movies), but many witches and wizards, especially the ones in the Black family, are named after stars or constellations: Sirius Draco Orion Pollux Cassiopeia Bellatrix Cygnus Arcturus Alphard Regulus Scorpius Also, as many have pointed out, having a werewolf named Remus Lupin (Romulus and Remus were twins who were supposedly raised by a wolf; Romulus killed his brother in a dispute during the founding of the city of Rome) is pretty ridiculous; might as well call him Wolfy McWolfface. Emma Thompson, who plays Professor Trelawney in this movie and some later ones, used to be married to Kenneth Branagh, who played Gilderoy Lockhart.
The bit that is not properly explained in the movie is the names of the Marauders: Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot & Prongs. Since at least one of those will be used in the next movie. Mooney: Remus Lupin (Werewolf) Wormtail: Peter Pettigrew (Rat Animegus) Padfoot: Sirius Black (Dog Animegus Prongs: James Potter (Stag Animegus) P.S. McGonigal is a Cat Animegus
The lady playing Marge was Pam Ferris who is the actress from Matilda who played Ms Trunchbull. You mentioned the uncle looking a bit like her in a previous movie 🤣

Something that I’ve noticed in the books & movies over the years is that the trio remind Snape of Lily: Harry - He has Lily’s eyes & kindness, Ron - Red hair & bravery, Hermione - muggleborn, smart, & most exceptional witch.
Magic was used in this one so sparingly because it's hard to generate tension if you can just pull your wand for anything. Plus, everytime we do see magic in use, it's all the more distinctive. Quality over quantity.
Okay this is literally my fave of all the HPs because Alfonso Cuaron is such a wonderful director and the great Gary Oldman finally made an appearance. I have that quote tattooed “happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light” I’ve loved these movies since I was a kid and I struggle with mental health (and this is my favourite hp movie) so that’s definitely my favourite tattoo that I have
Funny how you mentioned the principal from Matilda in the first movie looking like Harry’s uncle, and that’s the same actress that plays the uncles sister 😂
Ron and Hermione fought like an old married couple almost from the beginning. It is also my opinion that Hermione fell in love with Ron in year 1 during the wizard chess match. That boy was willing to sacrifice himself because he knew Harry was the one who had to go on.
@@michaelplowman8674 if the marriage is dysfunctional then sure, but let’s be honest, they were forced together so that they could all be family in the end
Theyre allowed to practice magic in their lessons but not outside of the classrooms. If they do they get in trouble with the minister of magic. Adults are able too but they do mostly non verbal spells like Mrs weasley when she cooks. More magic from the trio will come later 😏
Harry's dad turned into a stag, Lupin turned into a werewolf, sirious turned into a dog, and Peter turned into a rat. They created the marauders map and all turned into animals to help Lupin at the full moon.
4 months late but incase anyone wanted a (maybe) detailed backstory on lupin, sirius, peter and james (the marauders) here you go: They didn't focus on this at all in the movie but the map fred and george was titled "The marauders map". It was created by the Marauders which consisted of Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, James Potter, and Peter Pettigrew. Since Lupin was a werewolf dumbledore planted the Whomping Willow so he can go inside to the shrieking shack to transform once a month without harming anyone. The villagers of hogsmeade thought it was haunted by ghost since they heard noises every once in a while, hence the name "Shrieking Shack" but the shrieking was lupin during his transformations since they were so painful. The 4 became friends and obviously they noticed lupins disappearances so lupin told them his secret but the other 3 took it fairly well. They worked years to become animagi so they can give company to lupin when he becomes a werewolf. But the 4 of them weren't always nice, they were also bullies. Particularly to one person, Severus Snape. Their whole rivalry was touched on later in the franchise. They were troublemakers when they were at hogwarts (Sirius said lupin was the most behaved out of the four, even became a prefect) and they created the map with all hideen passageways and bewitched it so it wouldn't be as easy to find out what it was, hence the whole "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good" and "mischief managed" and even insulted anyone who dared try to reveal it's secrets. Now back to the map name, it said the creators were "Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs". These were their nicknames. Moony is Remus Lupin (werewolf), Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew (rat), Padfoot is Sirius Black (dog), and Prongs was James Potter (stag). Harry realised this later after he produced his patronous which was a stag and realised it was prongs, his dad in his animagus form (Sirius even said to Harry "Prongs rode again last night") spoiler to anyone who hasn't seen/read the parts coming after prisoner of azkaban !! if you want to know about their future here you go; ill focus more james' (and lily's) death though. So all were sorted into gryffindor, the bravest house. but one of them was a coward to be brutally honest. Wormtail/Pettigrew always seeked people who he knew could defend him and he could hide behind (he valued bravery the most which is why he's in gryffindor, he wasn't brave himself). He was friends with the other 3 since he knew they would protect him. But the moment Voldemort became powerful he was aware he couldn't fight against him, so he joined him out of pure fear. By the time dumbledore knew voldy would go for harry he told the potters to hide and make somone their secret keeper (the only person who would know their location, no one else would know unless they were told) sirius was their first choicd, but sirius told them to choose wormtail instead since voldy wouldn't expect it but surprise wormtail works for voldy and told him and so he killed the potters. When voldy was gone he didn't have anyone to hide behind so he stayed hidden as a rat waiting for someone to adopt him. Which was percy but was given to ron later. Onto why sirius became a prisoner, he was blamed for the death of a dozen muggles and wormtail. He was the only one at the scene of the crime so there's no way he could get out of it. But in reality wormtail killed all of those and turned into a rat. I guess that sums it up, idk how long it is but I expect its REALLY long lol
I am cracking up! Your commentary is always hilarious; this is no exception. "Family Dollar Silm Shady" was my favorite rename, though everytime you call her Heather I took a sip of water 💜 In the books, it's better explained that Harry looks just like his dad, except for the eyes, which are Lily's. As always, #Bingers My Cousin Vinny...and now Star Wars.
The Dementors actually literally suck the happiness out of you by making you remember the worst memories of your lives (hence why Harry remembers his mom's screams before she died). In the movie they expressed this by showing ice whenever they're around, and so fighting them off by using the Patronus charm (a spell that requires you to think happy thoughts/memories for them for work) in the middle of reliving your worst nightmares, is extremely difficult.
1. Professor D (yea I said it the way I said it) was recast after the 1st one passed away 2. The principal from Matilda was the uncle’s sister (call back from the 1st movie react) 3. Yep, that’s Nanny McPhee 4. Can’t wait for more twilight jokes next movie 😁. #bingers

The weasley twins are played by actual twins, but they got asked so much if they were real twins/brothers or if they just got cast because they coincidentally look alike and they’d joke that “yeah, no, we met for the first time at the audition, it freaked us out too” lol
That is my favorite thing about them 🤣

Billy: “Is Harry gonna do some magic now? It’s been 3 movies.”
Lumos Maxima in the first 10 minutes: “Am I a joke to you?”
For being an overdone response? Yes, maybe...
Well... I mean... Billy did make jokes about it, so...
😂exactly
Wow I didn’t know any of this and I’m a huge hp fan just haven’t read the books in a while. Thank you for this
I will never forgive the screenwriters for skipping the entire Marauders backstory. This is both my favorite book and movie out of the rest, and the only thing that kept the movie from being absolute perfection to me was that one element.
Thank you for this, love the movies and never read the books so all this backstory just got me so hype.
Beautifully put
Yes, also Harry learned about his dad being "Prongs", that's why he thought it was his dad when he saw the stag
Classic MC being good at literally everything and has all the best stuff, and achieves everything that's suppose to be challenging .
“You’re not allowed to do magic outside of school...”
“Yeah, try me.”
That line may be my favourite part of the movie, so proud of Harry in that moment.
He basically said "ask about me!"
Yes but it's like they forgot in the first 2 movies and the next ones.
In the first and second movie Hermione do the Reparo spell for Harry's broken glasses in the train, and other spells as well outside the school.. that shouldn't exist.
✨ICONIC✨
“You’re not allowed to do magic outside of school...“
“I don't give a shit, I just did a Lumos Maxima last night and nothing happened!“ lol
He thought he was going to jail anyways, he had nothing to loose
Here’s something for you Billy, to help you feel the story a bit more. Do you want to know what harry ACTUALLY hears when the dementors attack him? It’s not just a scream. It’s this:
“Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry!”
“Stand aside, you silly girl... stand aside, now...”
“Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead -”
“Not Harry! Please... have mercy... have mercy...”
He literally hears Voldemort murdering his mother. Not just some disembodied scream. It’s devastating. The books are a lot more raw.
Later he also hears his father's voice
On the train he only hears a scream. Later he starts hearing more.
When I heard the scream to me it sounded like NOT HARRY! I thought it was my imagination.
+Artemis Oh my god, that is devastating.

@@BillyBinges we appreciate u billy, u do u 😂
@@BillyBinges whats funny is you said harrys uncle looks like Mrs trunchball in Number 1 and they actually casted the actress to play his sister in this move 😅 you predicted it!
@@ilhan691 Also the actress who played Prof. Trelawney (Emma Thompson) played Trunchbull in the Matilda movie on Netflix that's based on the musical!
9:50 it's funny Ron's prediction was on spot, Harry did suffer looking for Sirius, but he felt really happy because of it
My, Ron can see the future !
@@juliababyjenjenny8485 Might also be because he has Tom Riddle's power inside of him. Just a theory
@@shiro5239 - yes, that’s a better analogy.
Didn't his friends become animagi so that he feels a little bit better being a werewolf?
The reason Harry has to return every year is for protection. It's never really explained in the movies, but it has to do with his mother's sacrifice & he's most protected while being able to call a house living with blood relatives (from his mother's side) a "home". Basically it's a protective spell. It's been a long time since I last read the books, but it was something along those lines.
This is true but it’s not revealed until order of the Phoenix…
@@audreyyoung4852 Yeah, but he might as well know why he keeps on coming back every year since the movies don't mention it.
Oh, they don't? For some reason I thought they did.
@@ms_scribbles They have mentioned the protection, but they didn't get much into details really. They said Lily's sacrifice protected Harry from Voldemort when he was a baby, but they said nothing about having a home & living with blood relatives from his mother's side - that it's crucial for that protection to go on.
But it makes no sense because he's never called it his "home" he's said last film Hogwarts is my home so surely that would of broke the spell??
Aunt Marge blows up because when Harry yelled at her to shut up, he'd unintentionally conjured a wandless silencing spell. When done incorrectly, the silencing spell makes the victim swell up like a balloon.
Also, Aunt Marge was Miss Trunchbull, the principal in Matilda which is even funnier because Billy asked if she was related to Harry's Uncle in the 1st film XD

I'm still laughing at Billy calling Buckbeak a gargoyle chicken. 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Also Sirius Black is named after the constellation Sirius- the dog
The Marauder’s Map was created by Harry’s dad and his friends who were all animagi (they could turn into animals)
Moony- Remus Lupin (the Werewolf)
Worm tail- Peter Petigrew (the rat)
Padfoot- Sirius Black (the dog)
Prongs (another name for antlers) was Harry’s dad James Potter (the Stag)
They became animagi while in school to keep Remus company during his werewolf transformations.
I do love how the black dog and werewolf are named "Black Dog" and "Werewolf McWerewolf."
i wish more of these details made it into the movies
@@butterflyslinky Sounds funny, but you're exaggerating the werewolf bit :P

Drago his mother Narcisa and his aunt Andromida who are Sirius's cousins are named for constellations as well.
Its something the black family does. I can't remember how far back but the ones mentioned they try to name the kids after constellations.
Harry wasn’t scared when he was learning expecto patronom. He has so little happy moments in his life that he could not figure out a happy enough memory to make the spell powerful enough. Most adult wizards can’t even cast a patronus. And Harry did it at like 13 years old
Well of course he did he's the main character

They are 13 so they don’t know much defensive/offensive magic.
Hermoine uses time travel to get to her classes so she does more each semester so she does more reading hence knows more.

Nah...a classmate literally just told me that they're gay 😂
“Are they lovers?” Lmaooo that’s one of the biggest ship is wolfstar
Literally started laughing the moment he said that cuz you know that Wolfstar is the biggest harry potter ship imo
I was looking for this comment haha wolfstar best ship

So true
14:48 “Are these boys actually twins?”
They met at the auditions!
😋 Kidding, it’s a joke James and Oliver Phelps (the actors playing Fred and George) made once when they were asked if they were really twins.
Fred and George are actual twins, they aren't naturally red headed though.
One thing I don't like about this movie is how much they downplayed Hermione's flaws and gave her all of Ron and Harry's ideas and accomplishments. Hermione is already brilliant, she does not have to be everything
Same in Sorcerer's Stone with the devil snare.
I don’t care what anybody tells you Billy, this one is the best one out of all of them!!
100% agreed!
Absolutely the best this is my favorite in the series!
This one really set the tone for the following movies 🙌🏽
The, last film I considered good before a significant downturn afterward. 4 was OK, 5 was iffy, 6 was meh, 7 part one I didn't like and I actually haven't seen the last one.
My favorite too
The reason they don't use a whole lot of magic in these earlier films is because they're still so young and are learning it.
19:54 there's so much fanfic with Remus/Lupin together, I'd consider it one of the most popular Harry Potter ships
If you love Harry's sass/attitude in this movie, you should ABSOLUTELY read the books. There's more of that in, all of the books, honestly
Billy since you have many questions I’ll my best to answer the ones I remember:
- Every film will start off on Harry’s birthday, July 31st (the character, not the actor)
-Whatever the number movie it is, thats how many years Harry is into his teenage years. So because this was the 3rd film, hes 13. And he will be 14 in the next movie and so on and so forth.
-You asked this in the first movie and no, the first film didnt not take place in a day, if you were paying close enough attention you wouldve seen that they celebrated both Halloween and Christmas.
-Harry cast a spell in the second film, when he was dueling Draco
-Yes the Weasley Twins are actually twins
-No there are no repercussions for Harry saving himself, because it was all looped.

The Harry Potter movies, like the books, occur across one year per installment. Yeah I feel Lupin and the one coming up were the best professors for this course in the book series.
I'm pretty sure Hermione was Steve Kloves favourite character so yeah it sucks
I genuinely hate the third book because I feel like it shelves Hermione who is supposed to be the smart female role model until she’s needed for time-Turner exposition before making her go and hide in Hagrid’s hut like a wuss 😬
I understand she’s a child and scared but given I watched the film before I read the book I was super disappointed.
Also fun facts for you:
- Harry’s pratronus is a stag, just like his dads animagus form was a stag.
- Don’t know if this was mentioned in the movie but the reason why snape hated James so much wasn’t just because of bullying and what not, but because James saved Snape from lupin one time on a full moon, and say they were like enemies, it was the worst thing that James could do in snapes mind, and therefore by protecting Harry, he feels as if he is repaying that debt
- The marauders map is made by James, Sirius, Lupin and Peter.
"Are they lovers?" That was the wish Billy... that was the wish XD
This is my favorite movie out of all of them. This one really made the change.
"Are they lovers?"
Instant nostalgia to the WolfStar days!
A lot more magic is used in the books billy! Though, if you count movies, Harry used a spell in Draco in chamber of secrets.
The number of the book/movie means what age or year he’s in. Prisoner of Azkaban, 13 years old, and so on.
that the Weasley twins gifted Harry was created by James (Harry’s dad) Sirius black, Peter Pettigrew and Remus lupin (the DADA teacher)
The Weasley twin actors are actual twins.
19:53
Billy talking about Sirius and Remus: are they lovers.
Me: yes they are. Wolfwtart forever
"Are they lovers?!" MY WOLFSTAR ASS CACKLED!! No joke: I had to pause so I could die for 5 minutes. Thank you Billy!! J.K? Even a muggle can see it!
It’s more obvious when you’re reading the books (especially because there are people mentioned in the books that are skipped in the movies), but many witches and wizards, especially the ones in the Black family, are named after stars or constellations:
Sirius
Draco
Orion
Pollux
Cassiopeia
Bellatrix
Cygnus
Arcturus
Alphard
Regulus
Scorpius
Also, as many have pointed out, having a werewolf named Remus Lupin (Romulus and Remus were twins who were supposedly raised by a wolf; Romulus killed his brother in a dispute during the founding of the city of Rome) is pretty ridiculous; might as well call him Wolfy McWolfface.
Mooney: Remus Lupin (Werewolf)
Wormtail: Peter Pettigrew (Rat Animegus)
Padfoot: Sirius Black (Dog Animegus
Prongs: James Potter (Stag Animegus)
P.S. McGonigal is a Cat Animegus
The lady playing Marge was Pam Ferris who is the actress from Matilda who played Ms Trunchbull. You mentioned the uncle looking a bit like her in a previous movie 🤣
I thought for sure he'd say something! My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined lol
@@sammybear7100 😂😂 maybe harder to recognise her now xD
@@JeM130177 lol true. I watched Matilda obsessively as a kid so I recognized her right away when I saw it 😆
@@sammybear7100 omg same i saw it on tv recently and was like damn i can near recite this whole thing 😂

„Oh my, and here comes Jakob!“
😂😂😂😂😂
Dude, I can’t! 😂😂😂 I‘m dying here.
Not me leaving my children to eat at the table with tablets so they be quiet and leave me alone so I can watch this. 🤣🤣🤣
Istg, I saw the notification and set the reminder so fast. I love these books, and the movies were equally awesome. Not as amazing, but still amazing. I'm excited to be here to watch you watch this.
Harry attacking Snape, disarming the rat and using a patronus in like 5 minutes and you ask why no one is using magic??? Wtf
As a lifelong Potterhead, I was awaiting this video (been watching all your HP videos) and I love the commentary. Seems like you enjoy the Potter series, can’t wait for more. 😎🤟
I have been a MAJOR Potterhead since the first book when I was only 7, I'm currently 28 years old now and I STILL love the HP series 🥰
@@16taysia
I love that 😊
There has always been something truly immersive about the Potter books/movies/lore.
It feels like the most accurate depiction of how magic would work & the world surrounding it is so rich in content.
Love that you read the books, so much more to pull from when you have read the books and experienced the movies.
I remember growing up and waiting for each movie to release, we were so blessed to grow up in that time!
Fun fact: Aunt Marge was played by Pam Ferris (Miss Trunchbull from Matilda) fantastic British actress! And this is probably my favorite movie of the series! Hope you like the rest Billy!
"Are they lovers?" Not Billy noticing wolfstar :'D
I swear, I never laugh as much at movies as I do when I’m watching your reactions. This one especially had me cracking up like no other, I almost spit out my water (yes, I’m hydrating!!) on several occasions. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, and most others’ mixups of names, details, etc. make me frustrated, but I adore these reactions all the more for them…they just make me laugh until my belly hurts. Heather hates flying on the hybrid chicken thing… omg 😆 I love it. And I think a lot of people agree, so no, we HP fans do not hate you! At least not those of us with a sense of humor lol. Can’t wait for your reactions to the rest of these movies! 🤓 ⚡️
I forgot how fricking good Prisoner of Azkaban is! It really starts putting pieces into play and giving us more connection to Harry’s parents and their lives. The next movie is hella fun! Can’t wait to see that reaction.
The actors of Fred and George Weasley are James and Oliver Phelps, so yes they're twins
Watched this just yesterday. The train scene was haunting . But it seems that if you have bad memories, feeling sad and empty just eat some chocolate your gonna feel better . Just saying . Hope your feeling better .Enjoyed this HP movie 2nd favourite so far . Looking forward to what you think,of it 😀
They suck and chocolate makes it better=dementors are my hormones
Honestly billy is so freaken entertaining. I LOVE watching this dudes reactions because they are so down to earth and fucking FUNNY. KEEP GOING MY MAN because I SWEAR ever SCENE is cracking me up. If this dude doesn’t eventually get a stand up show- imma gunna be UPSET
I love how you keep adopting grandmas on every single movie you've watched so far haha
Something that I’ve noticed in the books & movies over the years is that the trio remind Snape of Lily: Harry - He has Lily’s eyes & kindness, Ron - Red hair & bravery, Hermione - muggleborn, smart, & most exceptional witch.
Billy: "are they lovers?"
In my heart they are. 🤧
Also Billy I was literally just reminded of my childhood film: Aquamarine and you HAVE to watch it. I'm way too curious what you'd think about it! #bingers
"Are they lovers?"
Any wolfstar fan: "Yes. Undeniably. The chemistry is palatable, isn't it?"
Did you mean palpable?
Yayyyyy! I had such a rough day today and seeing this on the menu for tonight, just brightened me right up!
See you in 53 minutes Billy 😊
The way I SCREAMED when Billy asked if Remus and Sirius were lovers... if you only knew how loaded that question is lol
Billy, please continue to never get anything right. It's literally my favorite thing hearing you talk about characters according to the wrong names you've given them 😂 💕
Fun Fact: At the end of the credits showing the map of the school, you can see the footprints of 2 students "getting busy".
I know we're a couple of movies out, but I can't wait to see Billy's reaction to Umbridge.
Watching the beginning scene with the Dursleys makes me preemptively wish they had kept in the scene of Dudley and Harry in Deathly Hallows
Agreed. It’s a necessary one.
Billy: “Are they lovers??”
The rest of us: “uhhhhh depends who you ask but YES”
"are they lovers" lolll the actors thought they were playing a married couple until filming wrapped
2:15 each movie takes place during one school year but the filming was a little longer so the actors look older than they're meant to be lol... in the first movie harry is meant to be 11 and the second he's meant to be 12, this one 13 and etc... the first two movies were filmed about a year apart i think but unlike the other two this movie was a few years after filming the second one and harry's actor is about 15 or 16 playing a 13 year old lol
5:02 i mean other than the fact that the dursleys are literally harry's only living relatives and he's like 13 so where the hell else is he supposed to go during the summer holidays- i don't think the movies ever explain it but in the fifth book we find out that harry has to keep going back to the dursleys because the protection that his mother put on him when she sacrificed herself for him will work best when he's with blood relatives i believe (i don't remember the exact details, i suppose **magic** is the best way to explain it lol) and since his mother's sister is related to him by blood it works for over the summer until he's back at hogwarts which is a heavily protected place
14:51 yes they are actual twins
20:36 they were doing magic - just nonverbal which is something the main characters don't start learning til book 6 - but pettigrew was running around so the spells kept missing him
22:07 so every full Patronus (which is the name of the spell) has an animal as a form even if this is like the only time the movies show it, and harry's is a stag which is what that was... his dad's patronus was also a stag which is why harry's is and also his dad could turn into a stag but i think some comments have already mentioned that
25:40 he didn't have that reaction in the books but in the movie i guess it's just meant to be dumbledore being his usual weird self bc he's actually pretty weird sometimes in the books lol
Sirius is one of the best characters!! I love how it really starts to get darker and darker from this point on.
I have that quote tattooed “happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light” I’ve loved these movies since I was a kid and I struggle with mental health (and this is my favourite hp movie) so that’s definitely my favourite tattoo that I have
This is my favorite out of all of them, probably because of the director. They start to get dark during the 4th one, though. Glad you're doing these!
Look! It's Lily!!
LILY
Billy about Remus and Sirius: are they lovers?
According to everyone in the fandom; yes. Canonically; no
“ this man is sucking the soul out of Harry Potter”
Harry has all the luck 😫 lol
Funny how you mentioned the principal from Matilda in the first movie looking like Harry’s uncle, and that’s the same actress that plays the uncles sister 😂
Billy talking about Ron and Hermione: they are like brother and sister for real, they do not like each other
Me: 😏
Ron and Hermione fought like an old married couple almost from the beginning.
4 months late but incase anyone wanted a (maybe) detailed backstory on lupin, sirius, peter and james (the marauders) here you go:
They didn't focus on this at all in the movie but the map fred and george was titled "The marauders map".
Harry realised this later after he produced his patronous which was a stag and realised it was prongs, his dad in his animagus form (Sirius even said to Harry "Prongs rode again last night")
spoiler to anyone who hasn't seen/read the parts coming after prisoner of azkaban !!
if you want to know about their future here you go; ill focus more james' (and lily's) death though.
"Family Dollar Silm Shady" was my favorite rename, though everytime you call her Heather I took a sip of water 💜
In the books, it's better explained that Harry looks just like his dad, except for the eyes, which are Lily's.
As always, #Bingers My Cousin Vinny...and now Star Wars.
THE "are they lovers?" WITH WOLFSTAR I LOVE IT
Billy: "Why do we always start the movie off like this?"
Me: "WEEEE?!?!?"
“Are they lovers?”
All the wolf star (sirius/Remus) shippers are laughing and quaking in their seats saying, “see even Billy sees it.”
1. Professor D (yea I said it the way I said it) was recast after the 1st one passed away
2. The principal from Matilda was the uncle’s sister (call back from the 1st movie react)
3. Yep, that’s Nanny McPhee
4. Can’t wait for more twilight jokes next movie 😁.
#bingers
I am seriously enjoying watching him react to a series I love so much. It's very interesting to hear an adult come into this with no prior knowledge and give his views. He's actually doing a great job of seeing some details I never even caught. I can't wait to see him do the rest of these. From one super fan of the series, you are doing a fantastic job of honoring this series. And "YOURE MY HEATHER" is my favorite moment from this video 🤣🥰
It's funny he said "here come Jacob," cause Edward is right around the corner.
"And here comes Jacob" haha
Wait until he finds out about the HP & Twilight connection in the next film
Billy calling Draco a Family Dollar Slim Shady killed me 🤣
