Thanks for the tips! I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind:
    1) Is there any way to prevent a clear silicone mask from yellowing?
    2) Is there any way to get rid of the yellow?
    3) What causes clear silicone to yellow?

Thanks for watching! 😀 Well with the masks yellowing it happens for a couple reasons, the sun will do this as well as the aging of the mask. I don't know the science behind it exactly but the silicone is affected by that. Regarding getting rid of it, that can be tough since usually it's more than just a surface yellow so the trick is to stay on top of cleaning and rinsing thoroughly after using and then storing out of the sun in a mask bag or a nice mask box. I've never had any luck getting a yellowed mask back to it's crystal clear state. One way to not have to worry about it would be to switch to a black silicone mask which would never have this issue.
But even if the mask is yellowed a bit, so long as it has a nice soft seal, and seals on your face it will work just fine for you.
      I find the fish don't mind. 😉🐠

Thank you for the educational video.
I had plenty of tips from older divers where you need talc powder on your mask if you're not gonna use it for longer than 6 months. What is your take on this? While I have not not used my mask longer than 6 months, I might be doing this soon as I'm now saving up for my dream gear (and it's currently winter -- nothing fun about diving in the cold (not ice)).

Thats a new one, that I have never heard of or seen any of my fellow divers (who have been diving for some time...long time ;) ) use. Its possible but I cant verify that unfortunately. I have masks that have been sitting in their box for 2 years with no use, and their silicone is still nice and soft and seals on my face. I would say its something you probably dont have to worry about if its just being stored for the season. Maybe ill have to do an experiment - one with talc and one without, stored for a couple years.

Thanks for the video. Does the silicone need to be treated in any way to keep it pliable and good seal? Also, what brand are you using to deal with the facial hair? Same here.... Thanks!!

Thanks for watching!! Yeah no treatment is really needed as long as you keep it nice and clean and don't leave it out in the sun for days on end you'll be good. As for the facial hair, I typically just trim it back a bit or deal with a little leaking but I have dive buddies that use the Reef Safe Sun biodegradable mask sealer with pretty good success.

I have a bare trio c mask, and I'm having problems with the hinge on the right side letting go and the mask coming loose. Not sure what do do about it. I agree with the spit, it's gross, I only use it when I have no other choice. I use baby shampoo as a defog.

Hey hey! Sorry about your loose mask. Those hinges are typically replaceable and most shops that stock those masks have spare parts for them. Im not 100% familiar with the Bare masks but its worth a shot. Happy diving! 😀

@@TheDiveWagon No worries, my local dive shop sells the mask model I have. I'll check with them. Thanks!
