Just found your channel while looking up info about diving on the kona side, I live in Hilo. When I worked in dive shops we just used a laundry sink to clean snorkel gear. We would use a product called Sani-Q added to the water to sanitize between users. I used a toothbrush to clean the sand and lipstick gunk that would collect under and around the mouthpieces. It was funny when I came into work one day and found out that was my coworkers toothbrush. He was horrified when I told him I'd been using it to clean gear.
The Hilo side actually has some good diving and snorkeling spots, but the only one I would recommend is Richardson's beach park as it's the only place you're likely to find a lifeguard. Other spots are rough, rocky entries with strong currents.

Yes, bleach is one of the most effective ways to kill mold or bacteria. That and a good scrubbing. Use dilute bleach and soak for a few hours if possible. If that doesn't work you can try a solution of vinegar. Just make sure not to mix bleach and vinegar because it releases a poisonous gas!
