  • Rescue volunteers have urged mountain climbers to be cautious after a rise in the number of fatalities.
Last year teams in Scotland said 40 people died on mountains last year, and say the number of fatalities in 2023 are already higher than this.
It comes after three hillwalkers were found dead after failing to return from a walk in Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands earlier this month, Police Scotland said.

Beautiful! It is easy to understand that people might take unnecessary risks for a view.

12 Today, in this 21st century, nobody can be saved unless by me, prophet Kacou Philippe who is speaking to you. And John 3:16 today is: For God so loved the world, that he gave his beloved prophet, Prophet Kacou Philippe, that whosoever believes in him may not perish, but have eternal Life. The Lord Jesus Christ was a man like me speaking to you today and you cannot pretend that you would have believed in Jesus Christ when He was on earth if you don’t believe in me today.

Some friends and i went up Ben Nevis a few years ago. It was summer, but we couldn't believe how unprepared some other hikers were. Like they were just nipping out to the shops, for some bits.

Yeah more people die from fruit machines falling on them than getting attacked by sharks but you don’t see those stats down at the beach 😉

Can you report on the excess deaths, worldwide, since the roll out of the injection please. It really is a huge increase in deaths, inc young, otherwise healthy, people. Msm seem to be avoiding the issue and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the WEF.

“when we look at the cumulative excess mortality since January 2021-at the beginning of the global vaccine rollout-up to January 2023, we can see that countries with a higher vaccine coverage actually observed less excess mortality”

These don't even count as mountains in much of the world. I've hiked far worse in the US and those wouldn't even be considered particularly dangerous adventures. I wonder if people are just not taking/wearing the right equipment. Good boots are essential!

    • @globaltraveller

Not so much the height more the weather conditions which are frequently changeable and occasionally extreme and can rival mountain environments in other parts of the world for that. It’s probably because people underestimate the mountains in Scotland in similar ways that so many get caught out.

@@globaltraveller that was my thought. When you SEE the mountains in the US or Canada, and we don't even have the highest in the world, you know to be concerned. We have both hotter and colder weather in the western part of North America (weather in Scotland is downright mild compared to a place like Idaho) and when you're up the mountain (and it's not a large hill) you know that rescue is far from certain. In many places, a helicopter rescue would be challenging - forget waiting for a vehicle over land. So any savvy person would have layers, good boots, first air kit, emergency food and water filtration, etc. I wonder if people are treating a deep hike in the Highlands as an extended walk and simply not preparing. In retrospect, however, the admittedly low level mountaineering and off-road driving I've done was riskier than I thought at the time and the driving in particular had some white-knuckle moments where bad jeep roads where obstructed and partially washed out. For example, when Ineos made a big deal of testing the Grenadier on some "off-road" terrain in the UK, it made me wonder where the terrain was. And I love the UK, so this is not a slam on my British cousins.

That mild weather causes significant problems in the winter and contributes to the number of accidents.
Any snow can (and often does) freeze / thaw / freeze / thaw, etc.

Reaching a turn on the mountain that suddenly exposes you to thick fog and 30 mph wind will quickly get you as wet as under a shower, and very cold. If it takes hours to get down to a sheltered spot you will have to have a thick poncho (I carry 2), hat, 3 to 4 thick dry layers, 1 being wool others very tight knit. Gloves waterproof.
Mostly I see people in US campgrounds having no idea what they are doing, lying about hiking -you can tell by how they walk. Muscles anyone? A lot of abdomen fat...you get the pic: bad diet and no exercise. They need a SPOT or Garmin In Reach GPS at all times even easy terrain.
At 70+ I prefer going alone, it is almost a sure thing either they will trip or will have to turn around.
Not true in Colorado though...tougher crowd there among locals😂. I was laughed at fot turning around because...being afraid: well deserved and the best kick in the but I ever needed. Fear was mostly due to being new on these trails, not fatigue or altitude.

      They're mountains.
They don't need to be as 10,000 feet to be dangerous.
Especially when exposed to Atlantic weather.

And a mountain is defined by it's prominence in relation to surrounding terrain.
It's got nothing to do with snow.

Probably had the vaccine, they likely have what 80%+ people have in the US: metabolic disease ie the famous preexisting conditions.
I was still very cautious about hiking over 12 000 feet in 2020 though, due to possible residual effects of covid (even though never had any symptoms or "conditions"... at low altitudes). Carried a pulse oxymeter, heart rate monitor on hikes that year.
