I have been playing the flute for 72 years and it is truly a life skill! Get so much enjoyment from it and especially playing in my praise team at church! Love it and keep going great for the lungs and particularly those that have asthma!blessings!

Hello I played the flute growing up, and I stopped for awhile...a while being like 15 years. Seeing this reminds me to just get back to it and keep practicing daily. You're doing great!!

I'm at the same stage as you, but I've juist started a s a geriatric (I'm 76). You've summed up all the pitfalls, failures and successes in this journey. But we overcome them if we stick with it, don't we! Latest challenge is the right hand positioning, but I've just bought a thumb rest, my positioning is far better, I now avoid touching the trill keys, and the squeeks have disappeared.

Heya! Adult beginner here as well! I picked up the flute around late March this year (but my main instrument is the piano). Found out very quickly that while I could read music just fine, my lung capacity was nothing short of abysmal haha 🤣 I checked out your other videos too and wow, your singing voice is absolutely gorgeous! Let’s keep on practicing and making music ♥

    • @ivanfurber

The amount of air you have to use is really confronting, for a good while it’s like why do I feel like passing out after practising !! 😂 & aw thank you so much !!! 💪 definitely let’s keep at it :)

Even though I've been playing the flute for 7 years in high school and, after a long 9 year break, picked it up again, my flute could probably testify against me in a court at this point 😅

OMG this made my day today!!! Just started mastering Woodwind instruments later in life..... Started Saxophone 4 years ago and now moving onto Clarinet for a year and a half. Flute is next. Really missed out on that oppurtunity of doing band in school. Choir and Drama kid. Never worked out. Gotta keep reminding myself that it's NEVER too late to peruse a new skill.

@@ivanfurber Thank you. Also been amazing because I am a Musical Theater based singer and actor, it's also great to have those instruments as part of your skills. Lots of shows right now with actors also doubling as the orchestra. Being a quadruple threat....... Sing, Act, Dance, and Play an Instrument.

Hi! You're honestly doing an amazing job considering how hard flute can be sometimes and how much air it takes compared to their instruments! My personal advice I'd like to share with you is that while you should put in some serious practice, it's still a great thing to just mess around and experiment with your instrument. I would also suggest that once you get to a level where you are confident in your ability to perform, you should consider joining your nearest civic band. I performed with my towns civic band for the first time this summer, and while the music was kinda hard for me at first, it really helped to push me to improve and become far better than I was when I joined and I had a ton of fun doing it! Keep up the great progress you've been making!

well done, Im just starting with a flute and looking on what to expect... I have advantage of some whistles that I already play (have breath control already developed) and a bit of clarinet - both transfers to the flute, breath, tonguing, fingerwork, embochure (is different for clarinet, but you know, muscles are already working so it becomes easier)... cant wait to deep dive into explorations with this wonderfull instrument :)

Amazing progress, but even at month 1 you seemed very comfortable with the flute! I learnt at school for a year but could never get the hang of it so gave up. Recently I picked up the flute again after 30 years and it's still a struggle but in my old age I have more patience with myself and I'm making progress finally 😅. BTW what flute are you using?

    • @ivanfurber
      @ivanfurber  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hi, Good job, i am an adult beginner as well, i wish i can play better and better. .
I see your music sheet ,i do the same thing like that 😂😂, wrote the key below..
    .
I just learned flute like 3 months, just like you i spend 20minutes-1 hour / day to practice.
    .
I know it sounds very strange but i recommend you to watch japanese animation called " hibike! Euphonium", it's give me motivation and i am starting to learn flute because of this animation, i think it is fun to learn music. Also that animation have drama about a flutist and oboist.

My dear, why would you move more if it doesn't come naturally? No need for that. In the old days being in good(!) orchestra, it wasn't even allowed to move. It is pretty restless to watch and it takes away your energy. But if this is the modern teaching, that go for it.
Good Luck! I bet you are a good student🙂
